Shirley Mays has been a staple for all the farmers and people that can get out that way east of Albany. It is a place that is almost hard to see. Anything that you order will be enough for at least two people. If you order for yourself you will leave behind food she gives you that much on your plate and they're not small plates. If you're late to work you can call and ask for a few sandwiches for a sack lunch and she'll have it made by the time you get there. She is a fantastic lady. Service is good, cooking is great, menu you can add things or subtract things as you wish. I have been going to Shirley Mays well since I was younger olive oil just say that. A lot of people don't realize the restaurant is there but sometimes it can be crowded very crowded if you don't get there early in the morning I have rated this restaurant very high. If you have kids it's a great place to take them because they can get a Mickey Mouse pancake and not get eaten. And for all you people who are whining about that it's too small of an area and you have to share tables my goodness get a life, or you chose her for catering my goodness if you're a Fortune 500 company you think you would do your homework a little bit? It's just like being a jumpmaster. I always asked my students would you jump out of the airplane without your parachute their answer is no. That's why you do a check, ask people I can't believe but the one lady said on here about Shirley Mays and there were other people on here that were in the negative just because they couldn't share a table with a stranger oh my goodness is that going to kill you. I think you need to learn some social skills first. You're getting out in the farm country out there so all those good old boys aren't going to hurt you too much I don't think.

Not only the best Denver omelette that I have ever had, but seriously one of the kindest proprietors I have ever met. Shirley May's is an experience one can only find in a small town. Top notch!

Greasy spoon diner. My husband loves Shirley May's. I like it when I'm in the mood for greasy comfort food. Shirley May is a sweet lady of a dying breed. Sometimes service is drawn out and sometimes it is quick depending on the # of diners. Nothing outstanding here except nice country folks and a menu with prices from the 80's. I do like their milkshakes. We are repeat visitors. We like the company but wouldn't bring everybody there.

Don't go if you're starving or impatient. Do go if you want incredible comfort food at insanely low prices. Classic old-school diner at its best.

Amidst the grassy meadows......... Six miles east of Albany on HWY 20 rests Shirley May's. It doesn't look like much outside or in, but the breakfasts are pretty amazing! There are seven or eight tables and eight stools at the counter. To call the décor eclectic would be an understatement. Photos, paintings and other renditions of various feline predators adorn the walls. A peek in the kitchen had one eyebrow slightly raised. Then, out came what, at first, looked like a half inch thick large pizza crust (13" or 14" in diameter), crowding the edges of a huge round plate. It was a PANCAKE! This monster would have stricken fear into the heart of Paul Bunyan. I looked around for a youth soccer team or some other large group who might have designs on such a thing! I ordered a cheese, mushroom and oregano omelet. They had no cheddar and no oregano, so I settled for Swiss. My bride had eggs, English muffins and hash browns. Shortly our meals arrived on platters, the size and type one might expect to find under a turkey on a Thanksgiving table! Portions were big and the food and preparation was wonderful. (As nothing is ever perfect, the Swiss was processed and between ordering and the table, the mushrooms somehow went by the wayside.) All in all, I liked it. If you give this place a try, make sure you're hungry. Shirley May will make sure won't be when you leave

Absolutely delicious! Our family of 5 had the most amazing breakfast and there was plenty of leftovers, the Goulash and the South of the Border were so packed with flavor, we all shared bites of each! The pancakes deserve their own recognition, huge and fluffy! Skip the Denny’s and head over for an affordable, home cooked meal. The regulars make this place feel so welcoming!

You get a fair portion for a great price here at Shirley May’s. My brother and I got the chicken fried steak and South of the Border Omelette. Both came with hash browns and toast. The omelette was everything I expected and more, it had lots of Mexican flavor. Hash browns were beautifully golden brown and perfect texture. Toast and apple butter was served and was good. The chicken fried steak was the only thing I was a bit disappointed in. It was pretty bland and so was the gravy that went on top of it. Surprising because I enjoyed my omelette so much and it had tons of flavor. This is a quiet and homey little kitchen. Shirley served us and was very sweet. You feel like you are right at home.

Shirley May's has the best food! The servings are big so come hungry, with a friend or plan on leftovers. My wife and I like getting the cosy special. It is enough food for four people, but it is good the next day as well.

This use to be my grandma's when I was real young. I am so glad to see it still around offering dishes just like she did. I look forward to visiting very soon. My grandma has passed and I really miss her.

Primarily due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, I haven't been back to the Albany area since my father passed in 10/2018. Despite visiting my parent's gravesite and visiting my childhood environment, one other thing I truly miss about the area is Shirley May's. Damn. The best breakfast deal around! (Both in taste and price.) Living in Cologne, Germany, for over 35 years forces me to salivate for Shirley's shortstack pancakes...and sugar-free maple syrup. (It's ironic to save calories on syrup when those shortstacks have roughly 20 to 25 BEs related to a diabetic diet.) As soon as it's 100% pandemic safe to fly back "home" — to also take care of unfinished family business — my first "breakfast" stop will be at Shirley May's. I just hope she's still in business.
