Why in the world have I not eaten here before today???
As a girl who was raised in Southern Georgia, I can tell you that this place brought me back to my childhood. Serious soul food. Every single thing I put in my mouth was AMAZING!
We ordered the Temptation Combo Plate and Shrimp & Grits. We also threw in a side of fries, because they are fresh cut. We had wings, cornbread, gravy, mac & cheese, greens, yams with marshmallows, and that big ol' bowl of shrimp & grits. It was like dance around that table between my friend and I. She would go in for a bite of one thing, while I would go in for a bite of another. This was the best meal I've eaten in a long time.
And, to push this meal even further over the top, they happily put on Prince's 1999 album while we ate, at my request, and shared with me one of the magazines that came out after Prince died. While I waited for my food I thumbed through every page in that magazine, while singing along to Delirious and 1999. Once our food got there, and the first side of the album ended, it got flipped to the other side. GLORIOUS!!!
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. If you haven't been here, DO IT NOW!
Their hours are from 11 to 5, so make sure you get there in between. I'm already planning my next meal from Frank's!!!
Just had one of the best meals of my life at Franks Famous Chicken and Waffles. You can really tell that they love to make homemade southern food. Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had and the waffles are only a bonus. The restaurant is so cozy, friendly, and unique. Even better than the food are the people who run the restaurant! Had great conversations with classic 80s music in the background. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great southern food. This is an ABQ gem!
Bomb bomb bomb!...catfish on point!...greens on point!...macNcheese on point!....best in albuquerque hands down.
Love the atmosphere with r&b oldies playing in the background...friendly staff and big frank always available to greet you and make you feel at home.
Highly recommend!
Man, I am a brand new fan of this great little place I must have driven past 1000 times, it's an easy to miss, humble place on a busy street, but let me tell you, if you haven't been here, you're missing out. Frank's is terrific for nostalgia lovers, and fans of down home cooking and great food. The service was super friendly and knew their stuff. The place is decorated with vinyl records and music memorabilia from a variety of classic genres, rock and roll, rap, r&b, country. The waffles were delicious with cinnamon butter and the wings were crispy and hot. I always order too much, but I still nearly finished the fried catfish and mac-and-cheese. The coleslaw was also excellent, with a different sauce than you normally get. It was all washed down with an ice cold glass of grape Kool Aid served in a mason jar. I'm so full! As authentic of a so-cal soul food experience as you can get in Albuquerque. Save me a seat!
Catfish PoBoy -- *yum*

One of the most down home places to eat in Albuquerque. Everything was good. The mac and cheese was great, but the chicken and waffles definitely take the cake. Would definitely eat here again, would highly recommend this place to anyone that likes good food.
Omg !!!!! Amazing food and service! Red beans and rice on point !!!!! Chicken was super crispy waffle was to die for

Always great...love the wings and waffles. Never a disappointment!! Tried other items on the menu and all are good but the "go to" is always the chicken n waffles. Visited yesterday with 7 family members, 4 of whom had never enjoyed Frank's place. Everyone loved it. Might be a wait for a table for a large group as it's a pretty small restaurant with delicious food!
I am from the South, and this is the first time I've eaten food in ABQ that tastes like home. My guy claims to hate fish, and I couldn't get his grubby fingers off my catfish plate. The food was amazing. The folks were very nice. I will be back soon.
R when into this restaurant expecting only average food, it's not very pretty from the outside. But, that is some of the best food I have had in years! The service was fantastic and the food was well beyond my expectations, I will be going back-a lot.
We loved it!! The waffles were melt in your mouth and the Gumbo was off the chain!! Definitely very nice family that runs the place.
I'm a southern girl so I know my chicken and waffles. When I lived in Cali, I tried the famous Roscoes and I was so disappointed. This is probably top 2, beside Breakfast Klub in Houston, TX. I was shocked that this kinda spot exists in Albuquerque, NM-- I had the chicken & waffles & mac'n'cheese; it was so delicious, and the staff is so friendly and nice. Don't miss out if you're in the area
Ate here twice while we were in Albuquerque for 3 days! The fried pickles are some of the best I've ever had (and I've had a lot of fried pickles!)
And the wings and waffles are SO delish! The waffles are light but tasty and the wings were perfectly seasoned.
Also the lemonade might not taste like much at first but it goes perfectly with wings and waffles!!
The Best Chicken & Waffles in the Duke City!!! I recommend to my peeps who like that goodness...
The place is small with a great atmosphere. Outdoor patio added for more space. The music was eclectic and fun. Staff was amazing. Prices weren't too high although my hubs did not appreciate the 2$ charge for water. The only reason I rated it four instead of five stars is the waffles weren't crisp. They were soft like pancakes. I got the bacon pecan waffles and the caramel sauce was delicious. Regular waffles and chicken tenders were good as well. A side of fried pickles that 2out of 3 of us agreed were excellent. The chicken tenders were very crunchy yet still moist on the inside. I'd really like to try the grits next time. And I can imagine how amazing the wings are. All in all worth the stop and experience!
O-M-G!!!!! The food was THE BEST!!!! The Pecan and Bacon sauce that goes on the waffle is unlike anything I’ve ever had!!! So good!!! And the chicken was good too (esp with that sauce). The tables are were than spacious from each other, and the server was so nice!!! I can’t wait to go back!
On a holiday road trip and wanted to try out Franks. First of all, THANK YOU to the staff who took care of us even though we came in near closing time. They were accommodating, happy to serve us and didn’t rush us at all.
We had the shrimp & grits, the chicken fried steak plate with fried okra, mashed potatoes, green beans and the greens with smoked turkey, with a fried rib. We also took a piece of pecan pie to go.
Everything we ate was phenomenal! You can taste the love that goes into the food at Franks. The atmosphere was very chill and laid back. You feel like you’re hanging out at your friends place eating good food with friends. I wish we lived closer so we could stop in more often!
I'll add pics as I revisit.
First and second visit: I knew this place would be worth it! Prices are surprisingly not outrageous. But plan on around $20/person. Chicken was perfect texture, seasoning, and doneness. A little small. Waffles are a decent size. I almost got two waffles, but honestly one was satisfying. We had to order wings also. Pro tip: get the bacon pecan sauce. The "Off the Wall" fries were worth my lactose intolerance issues. We shared it as an appetizer. Catfish was definitely top tier. Fried mushrooms were tasty too. But I liked the smoked turkey greens even more than the fried stuff!
Third visit: the quality changed. Waffle seemed smaller and less crispy. Pecan/bacon sauce still divine. I actually enjoyed my "muddy water" gravy wings. But my husband got the Nashville hot wings and it was unclear until we got them that it was a dry rub, not a sauce. If you don't mind spoonfuls of cayenne and nothing else, go for it. They wouldn't replace his wings but they allowed him buffalo sauce. It helped a little. Maybe we aren't used to Nashville hot but we've had better experiences.
This place is a breath of fresh air with the quality of food and service going down everywhere. I got the 4pc Tender with 2 waffles and my husband the 6pc wing and waffle. My picky toddler even loved the food here. The chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly, same with the wings. I will say the wings definitely have more flavor so I will be ordering those next time. They didn’t need any hot sauce, the wings were absolutely delicious on their own. The sweet tea was some of the best I’ve had. Definitely worth the $1.50 refill on those, but I doubt you’ll need one since the mason jars huge! Overall, this place has some of the best food we’ve had in town. My family and I loved it and will be back soon.
Visiting Albuquerque again this week and didn't know about this place. This will be my 1st stop to eat. Incredible fried chicken!!! The waffles and fried okra were spot on. Decor and music fit this eatery. Definitely stop here if you want excellent food.
Music was a little too loud (maybe because we were by the speaker). Waitress was friendly. Food was good. Chicken wings maybe a little more seasoning. Tasted the catfish and it was delicious . Will be back to try more of the menu -- Also the candied yams were awesome and sweet
Finally! A place with tasty wings! I knew this place must have good food as soon as I pulled up! Lots of locals and that's a good sign. The buffalo wings were delicious, not overly breaded and nicely cooked all the way to the bone and juicy! Deep fried mushrooms and pickles were just as tasty and plentiful! The staff was very friendly and really appreciated their customers! Check out Frank's Famous Chicken and Waffles! I'm definitely going to become a regular customer!
Frank's Famous Chicken and Waffles is a true gem of a restaurant. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. The menu features a mouthwatering selection of classic Southern-style chicken and waffles, but also a variety of other dishes that are sure to satisfy any taste bud.
Let's talk about the food. The chicken is juicy and perfectly seasoned, with a crispy coating that's just the right amount of crunchy. The waffles are light and fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness. When you combine them, it's a match made in culinary heaven. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. Trust me, you won't leave this place hungry or broke!
But it's not just the food that makes Frank's Famous Chicken and Waffles special. The service is outstanding, with friendly staff who go above and beyond to make sure your dining experience is a memorable one. They're happy to make recommendations and answer any questions you might have.
The restaurant itself is cozy and inviting, with plenty of seating for groups or solo diners. The decor is charming and adds to the overall ambiance. And if you're in a rush, they even have a convenient take-out option.
Overall, I highly recommend Frank's Famous Chicken and Waffles. It's a must-visit restaurant that's perfect for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Don't miss out on this Southern-style gem - you won't be disappointed!
When you come, expect to wait for a minute. It may be annoying, but it’s not the servers fault. They are friendly and make sure the food is to your liking. Sometimes quality food can take awhile, but when the food does come out, you forget about how impatience you were feeling as you start tearing up your plate of some great savory tasty chicken wings and sweet sweet delicious waffles. I was not really into the chicken and waffles type food, but Franks changed that for me. The sides are on point and the chicken and waffles never disappoint. It becomes worth the wait as the quality of the food never misses. The evening I went to this time had live blues rock band going on that made the place a vibe. Frank’s Famous Chicken & Waffle’s is definitely one of the best food experience in ABQ.
Wowza! This place blew us all away. I will have to go back to try more. Both the original and Nashville tenders were amazing. We waited 30 minutes but got to order beer while we waited. Staff was quick. The fried green beans were some of the best fried sides I ever had. Could not have been happier.
Frank's famous chicken is probably some of the crispiest wings I've ever had. They paired perfectly with the delicious waffles. This restaurant is great for a quick lunch and unexpectedly green patio u definitely will be back. Great food and great service. Hot sauce on the waffles mixed in with the syrup is a great way to spice them up.
Waffles and chicken were great. Tried the catfish not to good tasted like muddy water. Okra and rice and gravy were the best I've had. Place was packed when we arrived, and we waited about 30 minutes before ordering. Parking was at a premium do to how busy they were. Overall, it's a good place. Prices weren't bad for the quality of food.
We have heard of this Frank’s Famous Chicken & Waffle restaurant and we had it down on our list as soon as we planned for the road trip from San Jose, California to Phoenix, Arizona and we decided to stop by Albuquerque, New Mexico before continuing with our trip to Denver, Colorado. All I can say is that it’s worth the trip to come to this restaurant. The chicken and waffles are delicious. The server and the owner are friendly. In fact, the owner came out to greet and chat with us as she moved to Albuquerque from the Bay Area. We were the first customers waking into the restaurant on that day. I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone to come and try their fried chicken and waffles. We will definitely come back when we have a chance.
It is hot as hell out there and I did not want to cook. I got takeout from Frank’s chicken and waffles and damn! If I were on death row, I would order this for my last meal. Make up the catfish Poboy, fries, and green beans. The server was super nice and very professional, and an overall badass. Thanks for a great meal experience.
Ordered the 8 tenders famous plate and the Junior plate which is 3 wings+a waffle :) the wings were crispy and delicious, and the tenders were juicy and thick. The waffles are thin and the perfect texture to accompany the chicken. I love the cinnamon butter as well, and although the chicken wasn’t as seasoned as I like on its own, the Louisiana hot sauce on the table was awesome :) staff was amazingly kind as well! Highly recommend coming here.
Amazing! Everything was delicious! Got the 6 piece and 2 waffles. Comes with a whipped cinnamon butter and maple syrup. Also tried the tenderloin plate, mac and cheese, greens, fried mushrooms, red beans and rice. All were very good. Definitely would go back again. The staff are extremely friendly and they make sure everything came out perfect.
