Delicious barbecue, and soul food. Best baby back ribs in town. Also, the pulled pork sandwich is amazing. The cornbread pancakes are a must as well. Also, their potato salad is very nice. The downside is slower service and not exactly the cleanest dining area, but the food is just fantastic.
Good Barbecue!. Nine of us went to Mr. Powdrell's in 4th Street. for their famous barbecue and we were not disappointed!
The restaurant is in an old house, quite homey and old-fashioned, with rustic tables and chairs.
I ordered the barbecue pork sandwich with okra and Cole Slaw. It was all very good. Some of my friends had the same thing I did and the others ordered the barbecue pork ribs with sides of potato salad, Cole slaw and okra. We all felt Mr. Powdrell's Barbecue is about the best in Albuquerque. We recommend it!
Great food! Great atmosphere!. I love going to Mr. Powdrell's! If you like modern, visit the location on Central. But if you like history and a relaxing environment, this is where you need to be. I usually get one of the plates with the smoked sausage (to die for!) and they have made me a lover of greens. Every side we have ever tried here has been phenomenal! Be sure to save room for the sweet potato pie and wash it down with a glass of sweet tea. Then you'll know what heaven tastes like!
Fish. Get the fish plate as it is as good as the BBQ and do not try the strips of fish get the Fillet Plate! Plenty of thick chunks of Southern Fried goodness! But my Wife always get the Large Pork Sandwich with 2 sides and we split the meals and ya get the best of both!
Best BBQ in Albuquerque. There's no other BBQ restaurant in Albuquerque that even comes close to having the high quality, mouth watering, robust BBQ that Mr. Powdrell's Barbeque has. Their is a vast assortment of delicious items to choose from their menu & at more than reasonable prices. It's NOT just a restaurant that they own, it's a family tradition. They've been making BBQ food in Alb for as long as I can remember. It's a cozy & very clean family owned & operated business. I went to school with 2 of their boys & we took a field trip to the restaurant one day, where I got to meet the rest of their family. They're really nice people who take extreme pride in what they do & how they do it. They genuinely care about our community & the people they serve. To be honest, I never liked BBQ ribs before I ate theirs. I love the fact that there's real meat on their ribs & not just a bunch of fat. Their secrete homemade BBQ sauce is extremely addictive to your taste buds & should come with a warning label...lol!~: )~

Best bbq in abq!!! This is the holy grail for smoked meat and one of a kind side dishes. Collard greens and homeade mac n cheese and 4 flavors of cobbler. Mr powdrells is part of my weekly diet!!!
Fantastic!!!. We do corporate lunches all the time. We don't always use Mr. Powdrell's but, if we could we would! The food is always great & so is the service. Everytime we order the food is always "DELICIOUS" and fresh. I think what makes it so good is the heart & soul they put into it. It's good home cooking. Great job guys! :)
This is real BBQ folks. Nothing comes close to it in NM. Powdrell's will hold its own anywhere in the South too. Thanks to the Powdrell family for bringing Real BBQ to NM.
Great BBQ. Great cuts. Awsome sauce. Friendly folks. Keep up the good work......
The whole family loves this place what more can I say for really Great BBQ.
The best BBQ sauce I've ever tasted. Did I mention my 12 year residency of the south? My sit down experience here wasn't the best. The staff was cordial, but an inability to have a stable temperature in the place was very uncomfortable. Take-away is always fantastic. To give fair warning, once eaten the pork sandwich will get you so addicted to this place you'll start finding daily errands to run just to take you by powdrell's
BBQ Sauce that is hard to top. I have yet to find barbeque that surpasses what Ann Powdrell Smith cooks almost every day at the North 4th Street location. Her collard greens are fresh, not over cooked, with just the right amount of red pepper. Eating lite? Go for the grilled trout with greens and black eyed peas. Not eating light? Even her french fries are fresh. When you grew on on Powdrell's, it's hard to see what Texans are on about when they brag about theirs.
Shortly after Arthur Bryant died in 1982, the Kansas City Star published a cartoon depicting St. Peter greeting Arthur at the gates of heaven and asking, “Did you bring sauce?” A quarter of a century later, I can imagine St. Peter asking Pete Powdrell if
Absolutely delicious barbecue! We had the beef brisket, polish sausage, fried mushrooms, and the cornbread. Everything was delicious and savory. The brisket was soft and tasty. The ranch dressing is homemade and the barbecue sauce has a slight spiciness to it. They currently only offer take out. The employees were all very kind, friendly and professional. The picture isn't too good and doesn't do the food justice!
Delicious, had the pork sandwich, potato salad and cole slaw and while sitting waiting for the food added an order of fried pickles which were just what I needed after a long week.. delicious.. delicious and delicious. Always love the food at Mr. Powdrells and the employees are always so friendly. Best place for BBQ
What a gem. The best barbecue I've ever tasted! The pork ribs are cooked to perfection. The catfish filet is exactly like I like it: crispy on outside and melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. Incredible potato salad. I can go on and on... And the woman who took my order made sure I knew exactly what to expect as a first-time customer. Excellent service and food! I can't wait to order again.
I ate 5 bowls of the potato salad, I cannot get enough of it mmmmmmghfmgm. The owner is super nice too!
Sucks that there's no more dine in. Food was great. Thanks you Mr powdrells your great
Amazing! A wonder smokey flavored BBQ! I enjoyed the beef brisket but they do pork, chicken and smoked sausage as well! You can smell its awesomeness in the parking lot! Love this.... highly recommend! Oh and the service was great!
This is such an amazing place to get local barbeque! The food is clearly made with love and care. I personally love to get all the different kinds of ribs they offer. Even if ribs aren't your thing, everything else is worth a try!
This is the best barbeque in the states! I have traveled all over the world and I can't find a better sandwich. The barbeque beef sandwich is my favorite along with the potato salad and black eyed peas. The flavors are intense, bold and will leave you wanting more.
Without a doubt the best BBQ in the world. I have tried BBQ at other restaurants and in different places across the US and nothing compares to Mr. Powdrell's Barbeque. Trust me, this is the type of BBQ that dreams are made of. Mike, Joe, and all of the family are friendly and awesome! I have been going since I was a kid and it never disappoints.
I have heard nothing but great reviews about this place so I went there today with a friend for lunch. I was underwhelmed to say the least. I got tips and ends which I usually love but these were like eating jerky, dry hard and nearly unable to be chewed. When I did get a bite of softer meat, it was delicious but most of what was on my plate wasn't good, I took it home and fed it to my pets. I thought the sauce was a bit under seasoned but adding a bit of salt made it tasty. Kudos to them for considering those who prefer a low sodium meal because adding salt is easy, removing it is nearly impossible. They still do not have inside dining so perhaps that is the issue, not as much turnover. Also the wait was way too long for our takeout orders. My friend ordered a pulled pork sandwich and said that she enjoyed it. On the plus side, the meat was not over smoked, the flavor still came through nicely which I really appreciated. I will try them again at their location on Central after they are open for dine in.
