Sushi was alright, didn't really have a taste to them. The fatty tuna or the salmon didn't have the buttery taste to them. The other sashimi was ok, nothing to write home about. Presentation was nice though (sashimi deluxe 14pcs). Definitely would prefer another place for late night sushi. We also ordered the jasmine green tea old fashioned, didn't taste anything like tea or had tea flavor. Other then that, the baked mussels with scallops were really good (comes with 4 mussels)!

Fabulous Sushi...the fish is very fresh and the presentation is really good.
Update: Came back for my birthday in early January 2020 and still impressed with the food. The staff is very friendly as well. Thanks!

Came here with friends for the omakase. They've been bragging about this place for months. $78 gives you 7 dishes. Everything ranging from uni, monk fish, toro, oyster, yellowtail, fatty tuna, scallops, ikura, flying fish, carpaccio. All the fish is super fresh imported from Japan daily. We had to book in advance to reserve our table and the omakase.
Chef Peter and his staff were brilliant. Sushi here is very different and he described each intricate dish. His philosophy is to make each fish have a memorable taste that is unique and can only be found here. You can tell that the chefs here put in extra creativity when it comes to making each dish. Even basic miso soup was seasoned differently and had mussels. His staff was very friendly, efficient and entertaining.
I'll def be back throughout the year when he orders special fish only available 1-2 weeks out of the year. If your a sushi lover try the omakase. The 2 hour dining experience is something you won't regret and you'll leave wanting more. If you want the fun rolls they're reasonably priced here. Restaurant is small I wouldn't recommend for large parties. We came her on a Friday night and the wait was not long.

Shoot! They do have an amazing happy hour, but the sushi was really rough. The rolls were a little Safeway-esq. First the fish didn't seem to be of the best quality. The rolls themselves were a tad tossed together, and you could actually watch them make it which reinforced the thought. I really wanted to like the rolls.
The service was great. The options for beverages was also wide and nice. The environment was solid, except for the intermittent wafting of BBQ.

Best sushi we've had in the DC area! Their Happy hour is from 5-7pm with $3 Kirin Ichiban and $4 classic sushi rolls. Seriously good sushi. Perfect date night spot since all customers have to be 18+. Jake the bartender/server is the best and I've never had better customer service. DEFINITELY going to be a frequent customer.

Unfortunately, this was a miss. The staff seemed nice (we got take out, so not much interaction), but the sushi was not good. The rice was not seasoned well and very chewy/dense. The “tempura pieces”, which many of their rolls feature, were straight up stale and also chewy. The yellowtail tasted very fishy. We’ve had sushi at many places in the DMV area and this is one we would not return to.

First off, no kids allowed. 18 and up only may dine here. Wonderful.
The sushi is fresh and creative, it's just not my style. Nothing is wrong with it. Everything was on point. I like simpler rolls and this place goes for the fancy. Go here, you'll probably like it.

Am intimate and pleasant place to eat and drink. The “no minors” rule is actually quite nice (said by someone with kids). Sushi is less than mediocre and prices are high but it’s a nice addition to Del Ray.

Great place and excellent sushi, I will be getting my Real Estate clients to this oustanding place for 🍣.

Short version: The sushi is excellent. Atmosphere is decent. Unique selection of beer, and what I assume is a good selection of japanese drinks (sake included). However, the service is (or was in our case) really, really bad--horrible even, for such a place.
Long version: My girlfriend and I went for sushi and drinks on Friday (11/4/16). We arrived and grabbed a seat at the bar after wandering into the middle of the restaurant (hostess nowhere to be found) and asking if we could be seated.
The bartender didn't seem interested in attending to us, because after our initial drink order, he seemed more interested in catering to some industry folks (whom our order of edamame was served to instead of us, I'll get to that in a little) and a group closer to the center of the bar. When we finally hailed the other wait staff--bartender? barback? server...?-- we placed our order of a couple appetizers and a few rolls of sushi.
The industry folks I spoke of earlier arrived after us and sat next to us at the bar. They were served immediately and consistently. They were told "your edamame is on its way" (without ordering it) by the very bartender who for all intents and purposes ignored us. One of our appetizers showed up, but our edamame came and went. I'm sure it was good, but I wouldn't know. I flagged down a server and told them to cancel the edamame from our bill, which he more than graciously did.
Our sushi showed up about 45 minutes later... but then to our surprise, the hostess arrived with our edamame! We had to explain to her that we already cancelled the edamame (45 minutes ago) and our edamame left us a second time.
The second and final time we interacted with the bartender, I ordered another drink. Later we struggled again to find someone who would give us our bill. In the end, our drinks were comped, leaving us to only pay for the appetizer we received and our sushi. I appreciated the gesture, but I've never been so ready to leave a restaurant.
As an observation for the restaurant owners... you really need to give your staff discreet roles and responsibilities. You also need to make it clear to the bartender that he needs to serve EVERYONE at the bar and not just the 6 people in his field of vision from the center of the bar. The hostess needs to be a hostess and not be plating (wish I was joking about this, but I saw it with my own two eyes), serving, or doing anything else really. The hostess missed so many opportunities to placate the frustrations of people arriving and being forced to wait (out of their own politeness) for someone to greet them/seat them.
Lastly, this place could (maybe should be?) have been featured on one of those restaurant rescue reality tv shows... it was that bad of a service experience.

Very creative rolls, excellent sake selection. Rolls are a but smaller than I would like, but this is a personal preference. The sushi is super fresh and amazing quality. I've been eating sushi all my life, this place is too notch.

We love The Sushi Bar. The food and beverage options are great. The staff are also the best.

Great little lounge with a bar and good crafted sushi. Been coming for over a year and I will keep coming till life says otherwise. Note that this is for adults only so any children below 18 are not allowed in, but that is what makes a better night life spot to be honest.

Ashley was our server and answered all of our questions (we are not seasoned sushi eaters) and the experience was great. The food was delicious and especially the oysters.

My husband and I went to The Sushi Bar last night for the first time. We ordered the Omakase menu. We had the best time. The food was amazing made by Chef Saran. The waitstaff and the other sushi chefs just made the whole experience fun and informational. We will be back!! Thanks everyone.
