Went here in the summer and sat in the patio seating service was a little slow outside but the food was great! Have been here a few other times never have been disappointed! Prices are average.
This is our "date night" first time here. The wait staff are friendly And appropriately attentive. Food was as described and well prepared. The ingredients were good quality. This place is a hidden gem wish we found earlier. Much better food and experience than Fridays, Applebee's and the new Chili's. We will definitely be back.
I have been here close to 10 times since its opening up to this far. Each time iv gone the food has defiantly been great, boarding on awesome.
Food was great and service a little slow but they have a gluten free menu sorta of and that's wonderful.
Must be getting better - we enjoyed our first visit. After reading some of the negative reviews I wasn't sure what to expect from Seward's Folly but since we had a prearranged outing planned there we were jumping in feet first and as it turns out I'm glad we did.
Our server was super in every way. She was very attentive to our every need and very patient with me as I tried to decide what I wanted. I ended up settling on a burger (Black and Blue Burger w/ jalapenos added). The burger was done to perfection - not over cooked as I'd read in some previous reviews and not overly greasy considering it was a 1/2 lb hand pressed all beef patty.
One thing I will say and I say this solely for you onion haters like me, they sneak a generous portion of those stinky purple onions between the bottom of the bun and burger. Be sure to ask for no onions if you hate onions as bad as I do. They slice them up nice and thin so getting them off after the fact is near impossible.
The food arrived in a decent amount of time considering it was Saturday night. Our water glasses stayed full the entire time and our server did a good job keeping our other beverages full as well.
The food arrived hot and although I didn't get the fries with my burger I had a chance to sample a few from another plate and they were piping hot and crispy cut fries. As a side for my burger I got the clam chowder which was very good, not the best ever, but very good overall. Thick, tasty and containing a fair amount of actual clams (whoa! Clams in Clam Chowder).
Adult beverage choices were fairly impressive, garnering a small sub menu of their own. They had a wide selection of beer (I'd say they had about 15 taps and as many if not more bottle choices), wine and spirits to choose from including a number of local brew choices which is always a good thing. Beer is served in 16 or 20 oz sizes (I forgot to ask whether they served pitchers).
Food prices overall were on par for this area of town - appetizers varying in price from $10-$20 depending on the dish, sandwiches from $11 - $16 and dinner entrees $20 - $30
Overall atmosphere hasn't changed much from the Chili's days for those of you that have been there pre-Seward's Folly. The decor is different but the layout is basically the same. The bar area is still pretty much what it was before with TVs and such (seems like it would still be a great place to catch a MNF game or some Saturday college football).
The main dinning area is has booths and tables scattered throughout with a relatively open concept, probably not the most intimate of setups but probably not a place I'd go for a quiet romantic evening, more like a good place to go for casual Saturday night out.
My one complaint, and it is minor but I was little bummed nonetheless, was that I asked if they had fresh jalapenos and our server said she thought they did so I asked if I could get some on my burger. I was a bit bummed when I saw the canned type peppers on my burger but maybe they'd just run out of the fresh peppers or something, who knows. At any rate overall we had a very good experience at Seward's Folly and we plan on going back.
4 stars!. The restaurant has definitely improved throughout each visit. My bestfriends and I had dinner this evening and was by far the busiest I've seen the place but our server never rushed us but made conversations throughout the night. My bestfriends and I had the famous calamari, a must! along with Cajun and prawns and turkey bacon avocado, split. All was delicious. The staff are genuine and welcoming. There's still a couple improvements to be made like any new restaurant, but Seward's Folly is definitely on the right track.
Getting better each time. We've been to Seward's three or four times now and each time it seems to get better. We noticed their menu has changed but still have our favoirites. The humus and prime rib sandwich are amazing! Service has been good every time and we always are greeted by a nice young lady upon arrival. The atmosphere is nice but relaxed and the staff seems very sincere and pleasant. As a plus we were informed they do a weekend breakfast which is something we've been waiting for. We plan on trying it this weekend and will be sure update here.
I asked the waitress if they could invent a sandwich for me. So, I had the Tulsa Hurricane. It substitutes the blackened salmon for the turkey on the turkey – bacon – avocado sandwich. I had it on sourdough grilled. It was really good. You ought to try it.
Excellant Food. Great food! We've been twice for a quick bite to eat and it's been great food! Server was friendly and prompt. We went the first time and thought the food was good. Went a second time and it was excellent. We will be back!
Great Food. Showed up for lunch today about 15 min. before they were scheduled to open, the gal unlocking the door told us to come in, very smart move because we would have gone somewhere else for lunch rather than wait 15 min. Food was great, prices reasonable to a tad bit high, service grand! We will be back...... smart group, good food, customer service oriented operation. Glad to have you on the South side of town.
I'm happy Sewards Folly moved in! What a fun dining experience. I'm glad they changed their burgers to bigger parties. And the beer draft selection is great. My favorite is the smoked prime rib. My husband eats the Black and Blue hamburger.I notice they recently lowered the prices on some things. The last time we ate here, we had a very sweet server. I don't remember her name. We are a little picky but she handled our requests like a pro. And it was a busy night. My martini was great. Finally someone in this town knows the right way to make a martini. The hostess was super nice, too. And very clean restrooms!
The food was great but server was rude. We had a group of 10 ladies, we asked for separate checks and he acted like we asked him to do a miracle. He said well I don't think I can do that. When we said we would take our business elsewhere, he decided to talk to the manager. He was very uptight and had to have everything done his way, and made a point to tell us he would only take orders his way. If you can't handle serving 10 ladies (most older) then don't work at a restaurant.
I ordered a Prime Rib Roast Dip with Swiss, it was amazing but I would never sit in that servers section again!
Just ate here and had the folly burger and it was excellent. I was there for a late lunch so things were slow but service was adequate. I'd eat here again.
This was our first visit and we enjoyed the visit. I had the spinach greens and was happy there was no cane sugar in the recipe. All our food was good. The service was a little challenged but nothing horrific. Overall experience was very good. I hope this establishment survives. Its a great place for families.
A terrific find. Lunch yesterday on the outside patio in the warm Alaskan sun couldn't get better. The service was good, the food was excellent and it came within 5 minutes. We had fresh copper river salmon on a bed of mashed potatoes with a merlot sauce and crab Louie with fresh Alaskan crab served on crisp lettuce with pickled beans and tomatoes. The portions were good and the preparation and presentation were perfect. We will definitely go here again.
Good food and service anytime ive been in. Only go to the bar personally. Check this place out nice environment.
Dinner was great!. We just went there yesterday for dinner with friends. Neither of us had been here before so we didn't know what to expect. They really made the inside look nice and the staff was very friendly and always on top of our drinks and making sure the food was good.
We had the cajun fettuccine, the prawns and scallops, the hawaiian cowboy burger and the free range chicken . All of them were quite delicious. We do recommend going and trying it out. I know we will try it again next time we are in Anchorage.
Very good service for lunch. First time here. Tried the smoked salmon sandwich, it has a great flavor. Onionrings still need work, fries are better. Overall great experience. Ill be back to try some tap beers and appetizers
I have been here 3 times. Tonight was the first time I brought my family. We had the chips and salsa which I expected to be a disappointment compared to The previous occupants chips and salsa. I was pleasantly surprised they were warm, salty and delicious! My husband had the prime rib which he also thought was extremely good. The kids had hamburgers and I had a blackened steak Cesar Salad which isn't the most mind blowing salad you've ever had, but the meat is tender and flavorful and the dressing isn't soaked through the lettus. Each time I have been there I have had great service with three different servers. I don't know who these people with bad service are getting, but maybe it's them....
OMG super Nom! Chef Jessica knows how to make amazing steak. She is hott to boot and single. If your looking for a quality red meat meal this is the place for melt in your mouth red meat. The mashed potatoes are heavenly and the serve golden beets! What?! The service is the best we have had in Alaska. This will become a regular date night. Can't wait to try all the dishes.
Very good!. I've been to Seward's Folly twice now. Once for dinner and once for lunch. Both times, I have been very pleased with the service, the food, and the price. The first time we went for dinner, and I had the shrimp salad croissant. It was VERY tastey! My dining companion had the jerk chicken wrap, and she said that was excellent. We ate at a table in the bar, because the dining room was full.
The second time I ate there was for lunch with my folks. I got the fish n chips, and it was good. Not the best fish n chips in town, but it was good quality fish, and the jalenpeno ranch dip that comes with the onion rings is AWESOME! My dad got the special, which was Halibut with some amazing sauce. We were told it would be on a bed of fingerling potatoes, but instead it turned out to be beets? Not my dad's cup of tea, but my mom was happy to eat them, and she loved them. ;)
Price and portion were good. The service has been very friendly, timely, attentive, without hovering. I'm adding this to my 'dinner out' rotation.
Last night we went in for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. We had driven by a few times waiting for it to open and after much anticipation even my mother in law was happy. Our server Coleman recommended us the NY Peppersteak and a glass of wine; Excellent, the cajun fetuccinni, excellent and even our two year old son was happy with our server and that never happens. We will come back and bring our friends.
We just finished eating at Seward's Folly for the first time. I wrote this review as we order, ate and finished. Off the bat, the bread could be better. This is not an Italian restaurant so maybe some butter and warm bread? Secondly, it was slightly cold in the place. We ordered which went fine. Several choices on the menu. Seafood and steak are the main items with some chicken and even tofu entrees. We had chicken wings for the appetizer and the mixed grill for the entree. Both were great. Prices are normal for Anchorage. Maybe slightly above average. Our server was Debbe and she was attentive to what we needed. Offered to answer any questions about the menu or restaurant. Good visit. I just wish the bread was better and came with a little butter, maybe.
Awesome Place!. Can't beat the portion size of great tasting entrees and the huge beer selection on draft. The food is excellent with so many good choices. My favorite is the "Hot roast beef sandwich with garlic mashed potatoes" with a cold draft Guinness.
Went in not really knowing what to expect since it is in the old chilis (being my former favorite restaurant). I can honestly say Seward's Folly filled those empty shoes and are now my current favorite restaurant! Their burger was KILLER, as were the fries and the calamari AND the beer. Great job Seward's Folly, I'll be back real soon!!
A nice new place to eat. The service was great. Food was good. I would come back again.
Love it! Pleasing atmosphere, attentive service, food is beautifully presented and tasty. Kudos to the Seward's Folly team.
The best calamari I have had. I have visited the restaurant several times for lunch & dinner & the service has been consistently great & the food is excellent. So glad a local owner runs the restaurant versus a food chain.
Really good food! A bit pricy, but specials are amazing as well as service
My New Favorite Place. For many years I had given up on any decent bar or restaurant on the South side of town with a good selection of beer and food I actually liked. Unless I headed to Glacier brew house, Snow Goose, or somewhere else downtown, I was stuck with tired old Red Robin. Thank god someone has had the initiative to give South Anchorage a place worth going to. I must say, one of the best beer selections Ive seen in a long time. This will be a regular stop for me from now on. Thank you thank you.
Best. Calamari. Ever.. Oh my gosh, seriously can not stop thinking about their calamari. Everything we ordered was amazing! calamari, mushroom swiss burger, clam chowder, flat iron steak, tiramisu. We were so impressed and satisfied we HAD to tell the sous chef ourselves. You HAVE to go here and try it for yourselves. (we went on a thursday night and it was very comfortable and pleasant)
My favorite new spot!. Met some friends there Friday night and had a great time. The bar is comfortable and great music too. Our beers were cold and the prime-rib was incredible. The whole place was hopping and I can see this being a new hot spot for south Anchorage. Kudos to the new owners but what took you so long?
Great new restaurant, Great Food!. My wife and kids tried out the new restaurant where Chili's used to be on Abbot. What a nice surprise this was! The new owners have totally revamped the look inside creating a clean and warm look. The service was great and although our food took longer than your typical chain it was worth the wait. We were informed that the food is prepared by two chefs rather than a heat and serve format which is being done all over town. Our Kalamari appetizer was the best I've ever had and my prime rib was cooked perfectly. My wife had the free range chicken and her favorite wine. My kids loved the mac and cheese and we like that our kid's meals were under six bucks. Next time we are getting a babysitter and heading to the bar! Can't wait!
Loved it! Yes it is a new place and they will for awhile have a few slip ups... I have gone twice and been treated amazing and been greeted right away! I have had a sandwich and the salmon and both times delicious. All great price points as well, I also definitely recommend the chicken quesadilla! Literally the best I have ever had. I will definitely be coming back for a long time and can't wait to see how this BRAND NEW RESTAURANT will grow!
Yum. Seward's Folly, where to begin... It was an awesome Friday night! We were seated pretty quickly, and by the walk through, I could see what a wonderful job they did to the place! Very beautiful way to change a previous food chained restaurant into a unique Alaskan decor one. And the food was fantastic! To start we had the calamari! OMGosh, it was the best I've had! And we had the Mixed Dinner plate which had a combination of the menu items they have, that included the Ribs, Steak, and Chicken breast. They were mouthwatering, and the sides, Green beans and Texmati rice were perfect!
Awesome Calamari, crispy outside,tender inside.
Nice kids meals and well priced.
Great service.
Overall excellent experience!
Well done!. This was my second visit to the new restaurant Seward's Folly and I must say they are doing a great job. My wife and I shared the Hummus and were more than pleased with the flavors and unique twist on an Anchorage staple. From there we shared a Chopped salad and a rack of barbeque pork ribs both equally delicious. Not much room left for dessert but we'll be back.
Great service, great food. Went in with a group of ten and all were impressed. I will definitely go back.
Trying out this new place. Overall, I would say this restaurant is OK. The atmosphere is lovely compared to the Chili's that used to reside there and they have a wide selection of food from simple salads to seafood and steak entrees. We went during the opening week, and the service was surprisingly good. The only thing that falls short is the food itself. Everything looked to be quality food, but whatever cook was working (or perhaps it's in the recipe?) peppered the ever-living heck out of every dish. Personally, I love pepper on my food, but the only thing we could taste on the Cesar, steak, & fish was pepper. And who ever heard of a pre-peppered salad? Fries were good though :)
Being a south side resident, I really want this restaurant to work out. The prices are decent, and they have cheap cocktails. I'm just hoping that they realize that good dishes come from fresh, quality, and simple ingredients, not how much seasoning you can put on them.
Spicy Burger, nice medium rare
Was just lacking in flavor and heat
Added salt and pepper and made it much better!!
Clam Chowder was OK, a little salty and had too much grit in my taster bite with a fork.
Fried Calamari was OK nice and tender but no crisp really
Sweet potato fries were on point but came 5 min after main course came out. Plus appetizer calamari came out with mains.
OK overall this time
It's been better before
OH 35 min ticket time at 1pm ish!!
Get into these crab cake slides that are normally an appetizer but I’d much rather it as a meal. So I slapped a side of broccoli w/ it. The crab cakes are sooo good and fresh on Hawaiian rolls. There was so much flavor on those buns. The salmon was also great and a good sauce was topped on it. I also had a Cadillac margarita which isn’t pictured but it was tasty and strong.
Very cozy place with comfort food and traditional American food . Our waitress was absolutely amazing ! She helped with choices and everything was good . Prices was lower that you expected so we was even surprised. I highly recommended this place to visit .
This is probably my favorite place to eat in Anchorage. They have really good food. I haven't tried anything that I didn't like. They are priced reasonably and their service has always been excellent.
A go to favorite. Menu has a huge variety. Steaks are probably the best in Anchorage (my opinion)! The Folly French dip is a favorite as well! (Can be a little salty, depending on the cook)...they also have an amazing wedge salad!!! And they are great at accommodating when you want to share a dish (they split the meal into 2 and bring it out on 2 separate plates)! Prices reasonable.
