My experience at this restaurant was nothing less than perfect. I popped in one day to pick up an Uber delivery and noticed the nice atmosphere and amazing smells. Later that evening, I decided to try it out myself and it did not disappoint! The owner/chef is very personable and attentive. The butter chicken was out of this world and I have ordered it many, many times since then. I have tried butter chicken at a few other Indian restaurants, and still consider Saffron to serve the very best in the area! There is no comparison. I’m not sure what the secret ingredient is, but theirs is somehow different in the best of ways! It’s like a warm hug and a combination of rich flavor that surprises your senses. Heat and flavor working together perfectly.
Also, I never write reviews, but I really felt the need to promote this restaurant due to the quality I have experienced here! Keep doing what you are doing! I’m a fan for sure 🤩💯
I arrived at Saffron after driving in dense fog and rain on Rt. 66, the aftermath of tropical storm Ophelia, in the early evening, at around 6:30 PM, on Saturday, September 23. Finding shelter from the storm, I enjoyed wonderful Indian cuisine flavors and cordial, attentive service in a relaxed atmosphere. Graciously greeted by the general manager, Johnny, and the owner, Shankar, I asked to dine at the bar. When dining solo, I prefer and enjoy dining at the bar.
I got the festival of flavors going with black-pepper seasoned papadums with tamarind and mint
and cilantro chutneys. I ordered Coppola Prosecco, though I wanted Kir Royal, but crème de cassis nor Chambord were available. So, I ordered a side shot of Grand Marnier as a workaround.
Samosas, served with tamarind and mint and cilantro chutneys, were delicious. The samosas were elevated by a subtly curry-spiced crispy crust that complimented the spicy potato and peas filling. Chutney’s added to the flavor complexity. The plating was attractive, and the chopped lettuce and raw onion strands garnish provided a fresh, crunchy and cooling effect.
Johnny suggested the Chicken Lasooni Kabob for my entree, having a sense of my tastes. WoW, what outstanding flavor! The chicken was juicy yet had wonderful char flavor, which is not easy to achieve. Putting the taste over the top for me was the subtle use of fresh ginger in the marinade. The bold savoriness of this dish was exquisite. I also enjoyed Saffron Basmati Rice, Plain Roti, and a Heineken Beer with the Lasooni Kabob. Johnny slipped in a bowl of wonderful Maki Sauce, in my mind, an equivalent to marinara sauce with its rich flavors.
I finished my flavor jamboree with terrific Kesari Kheer (Saffron Rice Pudding) and a cup of Masala Chai, no sugar, no milk, finding the tea particularly robust and intense, I loved it. Summing up, Saffron Restaurant in Ashburn serves classic Indian cuisine recipes with masterful seasoning skills, and cooking techniques, all with a passion for pleasing their guests.
They serve a tasty and flavorful food variety. Their curries delighted our palate.
Edited 8 months later….. we’re still huge fans of this place.
First time trying out their lunch buffet after the pandemic. We were blown away by the wide varieties of deliciousness. Everything tasted so good. Their haryali chicken is a must try!!!
New to the area, our friends brought us here for lunch. The food was amazingly delicious. We ordered:
Lal mas - 9/10, onions kulchas 10-10, chicken briyani 10/10, dal makhni 8/10 & tandoori chicken platter 10/10 the chicken was amazingly moist and full of flavor.
This place also has a beautiful ambiance. Great place to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays etc.
Six of us had veg dinner at this place. Ambience is peaceful and nice. Food quantity was very good and also the quality. Price is also reasonable. Service was also good. They offered us a plate of six gulabjam and a candle when they came to know that it was birthday dinner.
These guys are just the nicest. The food is always good, and they have a few vegan items that I don't usually find at Indian restaurants. Really awesome samosas too.
Ambience was good, but we took a to go order, they deliver to the parking lot but we came in to take order. We’ve ordered Vegetable biryani - It was of okay taste , too much oily though. The prices are bit expensive compared to Tri states.
Excellent food and drinks and service is impeccable! Love it here. I have been many, many times and the service and food is excellent each time!
Yesterday we went to Saffron for family dinner. Food was good, especially papri chat was really good. My daughter love that papri chat. We enjoyed food and ambience with bollywood song. Restrooms were very clean. Overall good experience.
Love this place. Food is outstanding! Garlic Naan melts in your mouth. Staff is very friendly. If you're a vegetarian, good selection too (eat cheese, you won't go wrong with Tikka Paneer).
Today was my first time visiting this lovely restaurant but wow it will not be my last. Everyone who helped us was so kind. The atmosphere was clean and well decorated and the playlist this evening was very vibey! Everything we ordered was DELICIOUS. chicken 65 was crispy and juicy with a superb heat without sacrificing flavor. I got the butter chicken and it was so so so so good. Felt like comfort food, just perfect. The lychee martini was also very good.
10/10 would recommend to any and everybody. Thanks to Saffron for the excellent dining experience, I will absolutely be back! 💚
Fantastic Indian food with a great selection, decent prices, and good service in a convenient location. I really enjoyed the Chicken Korma and Naan. Definitely recommend!
Wonderful service and amazing food!! Samosas were the best in Ashburn!! Gobhi Manchurian was my another favorite! Cheerful service made our day!!
This is the best Indian restaurant in northern Virginia! Honestly this is even better than what I’ve had in India. Johnny, the store manager, is so hospitable and treats us like family every time we come in and knows exactly what we want and how we want. They are so generous with their portions and the are very accommodating to your taste.
