Have only been there once, but was very pleased. I didn't want the rice or beans that came with my meal so the server offered me a salad. The salad was very good and the dressing was awesome. Will definitely go again, going to try lunch next time. Wish we had asked the price of the top shelf margaritas because hey were expensive but were good. Would recommend this to others to try.
Sooooo good!!. The outside doesn't look like a place you might want to eat at... but the food is amazing!!! Try the salsa bar, and the bean dip is delicious.
Food is fresh and delicious. Fish tacos and taco salad are great. Cali-Mex style.
Best Mexican food I have had since I lived in Texas !!
Great, Glad We Tried It. We're visiting the area on our honeymoon and stayed in Fairview. Didn't feel like driving to Asheville for dinner so we tried something closer to "home".
We read reviews on here before going and were very pleased we tried it out. The meat was extremely flavorful in both the tamale, taco and fajitas and the serving sizes were ridiculous.
The complimentary chips, salsa and bean dip were all excellent. Salsa options were interesting.
Services was swift and pleasant.
Again, really glad we tried this place!
Outdoor Mexican Bliss. If you are looking for a enjoyable and relaxing family friendly dinner on an outside patio this is the place! The restaurant is an 50's style diner so the decor is Elvis goes to Mexico, but don't let that dissuade you the restaurant is very clean and the patio is fabulous with late evening sun. The complimentary chips and salsa quickly come to your table, kids meals or under 5 dollars and the menu is extensive. I get shrimp every time and they do it well! The fajitas are fabulous. My personal favorite is the shrimp caesar salad, the dressing is to die for. The staff is courteous and friendly. An they have nightly drink specials and kids eat free on Sundays.
Nachos and Beer. Dumb name but awesome Mexican. Sauces and dishes you cannot get anywhere else. Yes, they should seperate adults and children, but whoever wrote the place was so dark they could not read the menu obviously owns Papas and Beer. The service is terrific. Always. People who wrote those reviews have not been there. I live two miles up the hill and we go once a week. Please try something there you have never heard of.
Foods great. Service in the past was wonderful but after today I don't intend to return. Server disappeared for 20 mins, could not remember two drink orders and worst of all (given it was not the restaurants fault) another group of guests were allowing five children to run around. Extreme example of bad parenting. Not coming back
A great find Very very clean Great price and plenty if food This us true Mexican food Enjoy we all did. By all I mean three teenagers and my wife and i
Enjoyable. The debate does rage as to whether these folks match up with Papas and Beer. Seems like they do, and essentially borrowed their name by adding that beer part, but guess that's OK from a marketing standpoint. One entree will often do it for two folks. Beer is usually not cold enough so could work on that part of it. Has full, cool bar. Service is always good. They have satellite TV. Sometimes some harder core dudes take over the bar because the specials are good. They have booths. Glad they didn't change the decor from the previous place at that spot. It works.
Best Mexican in Asheville. What a local treasure! The family that owns this place, the chef, and the staff who work there care very much about the quality of their food. They are also very friendly. The salsas are home-made, and even the rice is uniquely delicious. The portions are very large (usually enough to take home an entire meal for the next day after eating until you're full), and the quality rivals the best Mexican restaurants I've eaten in all across Texas and California. Other places might get all the hype, but this one is the real deal. Just ask anyone fortunate enough to live nearby. The lunch specials are very inexpensive but terrific. My wife and I eat there as often as we can, and many other folks we know eat here regularly. It's incredible to have a place this good in the neighborhood. No need to go to downtown Asheville for great food.
Superb staff. Very cool vibe. Mouth watering Cali Mexican. Excellent prices.
Great for families or a date. Love the 50s decor.
Giant taco salad and house margaritas were very delicioso. I sat at the bar and the service was quick & friendly. My 1st time there I sat at the old-fashioned milkshake bar area thinking it was the bar & I thought it was a little weird, until an employee told me the real bar was on the other side so I hope this helps at least 1 person avoid that, hahaha. My 2nd time there I got some chicken enchiladas & some drink special & those were very good, too.
This spot is loads of fun! Located inside an old silver diner, it has plenty of character, & is great for any party size. Sit at the full bar, or in a cosy booth, & enjoy the prompt & delicious food & massive margaritas. Something for everyone, & a kid’s menu, too. Pay at the register when you’re finished. Sadly, the washrooms are gendered. I don’t think it’s wheelchair accessible without some assistance.
Absolutely Love this place. We are locals and pass by this place all the time. We always had always wanted to try it but was always on the go. We finally did and loved the portions and the food quality. The fajitas were awesome. Thank you for making our first experience great. We look forward to next time...
This is by far our favorite Mexican reaturant and have been going here for many years! The food is always great, perfect service and always clean.
Great dinner, strong drinks, and lovely flavor. The decor was so cute and attractive. Lots of seating options and plenty to choose from on the menu. Ordered the chicken fajita nachos and the mango margarita. Would definitely come back!
This place is not your normal Mexican food restaurant in that they have established themselves in what looks like a 1950s diner. However their food was very good and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. We would definitely come back here again. I had the Mexican street tacos and my wife had beef nachos both of which were good.
Delicious! Totally recommend. Many vegetarian options available. They have a salsa bar that has great salsas too! Waiter was nice and prompt.
I thoroughly enjoy grabbing takeout from this restaurant. Not to mention, it's a great spot to have a brew while you wait. The service is wonderful and attentive. Also, the food portions are balanced to price. Recommended! Cheers!!
Really outstanding restaurant! We enjoyed large, delicious portions. Our service was excellent. I can’t wait to return. Don’t miss this place for great food at an excellent value.
Was visiting Asheville and since I love Mexican food I thought I'd try this place out.
It's like an old school diner/dive so it looks a little rough when you walk up.
There's a small salsa bar just to the left when you walk in. I tried a couple and neither was very spicy but they tasted fine. They bring out complimentary chips and beans.
I ordered the spicy cheese enchiladas which I was expecting a spicy red sauce but it was more of a mild, creamy green sauce which was a little different. It had a little spice to it but not as hot as I like.
It all tasted fine but think I'd prefer a different type of sauce.
All in all it was ok however, not certain I'd return.
Had a fantastic family meal here for 8. I have been looking for adobada outside of San Diego for years now... and this place not only had it, but knocked it out of the park. Service was a bit slow, but i put that down to them being pretty busy. All in all, awesome experience and would highly recommend.
I am a Fairview native and have loved N&B, Oscar, and his staff since they opened. Whenever we return to AVL to visit, my partner and I always make a point to come here ... often.
After a business meeting went longer than planned, we found ourselves scrambling for a bite to eat just before N&B closed at 9 pm. But we were not turned away. We were happily seated and served as fine a dinner as we would normally expect.
I can't thank them enough for their kindness and hospitality, especially since it was probably be the last chance we will have to eat there this trip. (We now live in Tucson, and no. You cannot find this style of Mexican anywhere in the Southwest.) Cheers, Oscar and friends! Until next time...
Stopped in with my best friend during our weekend in Asheville for my birthday. We were making our way to a different restaurant and I'm so glad we found this absolute gem of a place. Food was aaaaamazing and great service!!
This has always been one of our favorite restaurants. It’s convenient, the prices are reasonable, the portions are generous and the food is excellent! Glad to have them in the area.
Food was good and not expensive. Slightly different throw on Mexican food that we enjoyed
Service was friendly and efficient. Will definitely return
Super cool place and awesome food. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We will be going back soon.
