Two hours later, Iā€™m still smiling [and salivating] after an awesome meal, shared with lovely company, to celebrate International Womenā€™s Day. Homemade pasta and womenā€™s empowerment make me happy. Thanks for the best pasta Iā€™ve had in ages, it was perfecto! Bruschetta was fantastic as well.

Such an amazing meal! I chose this place for my birthday dinner and was blown away! I donā€™t quite remember what we got and it looks like the menu changes, but we got an app with mahi mahi tuna and I got the filet and scallop entree with saffron risotto and farm fresh roasted vegetables. I did have to send the steak back to be cooked a bit more to reach medium temp but they did it quickly and then it was perfect. The scallops melted in my mouth and were super delicious. The tiramisu was the best part, though! They even put a little candle in it :) The restaurant was pretty cramped inside and it would have been nice to have a better seat but we didnā€™t let it take away from the incredible food. Our server was super friendly, helpful, and prompt. I would love to eat here again when Iā€™m in the area!

We visited Asheville for the first time and asked our hotel for recommendations for restaurants and this was on the top of his list! We are so glad it was because it was some of the best food Iā€™ve ever had! The calamari was out of this world amazing. I jokingly said that I now completely understand the movie Ratatouille when Remi was talking about putting flavors together and feeling the food!! Dried lemons, salty greens, spicy and sweet sauceā€¦ I canā€™t even explain it but I know Iā€™ll never taste anything like it again! We also had the filet mignon and the mahi mahi. My only complaint was that my husband got 2 giant beautiful delicious scallops with his meal and I got these 2 tiny ones with mine. I loved the flavors and the variety of vegetables that came with each dish. Overall worth the price and I wish we would have had room for dessert but we were so full!

Seafood this far from the ocean? I was dubious and had planned on grabbing the carbonara or something similar. But I asked the server about it, and she assured me they get 3-4 shipments weekly of fresh ocean fish (many are from not too far off the coast of NC). Plus, the owner is also the head chef. So, that's a couple solid green flags to the one red flag, and so I gave it a shot. I have to say that I'm glad I did. The squid ink tagliatelle was very pretty (it never tastes super inky, but that's OK with me), and the assortment of seafood topped with the flounder was excellent. I could whine about the shrimp not being extra jumbo or something, but really, the flavor was phenomenal, and it wasn't at all what I expected this far from the water. Asheville has once again impressed my family and I, and we definitely would love to come back to visit. I recommend for small groups, as it's a tight space, but they were able to accommodate my family of 11 with just a couple of days' notice for a reservation.

Just in from Northern Virginia & off to a great start...had a perfect evening here thanks to Josh our server..from explaining the menu & suggesting mouth watering options to checking on us at the perfect intervals...the grilled romaine salad was scrumptious & the shared entree (seafood with vermicelli) was out of this world...yummy! No room for dessert..may come back for that this weekend...they looked wonderful! Thanks for a wonderful evening! Cheers!!!

Consistently good pasta, pizzas, salads and seasonal favorites with a few missteps I have been going to Modesto for years, and I appreciate the consistency of their menu. Certainly theyā€™ve had different staff and servers in rotation over the many years that I have been dining there, but unlike other long-term favorites in Asheville, the quality does not seem to waver. While I appreciate restaurants who have new chefs/staff, sometimes that means mixing up the entire menu and that includes throwing a lot of standards away. Not so with Modesto; I can always count on my favorites, yet they still manage to have seasonal ingredients as well. For example, they have my favorite appetizer that Iā€™ve been enjoying for several years (woodfired Spanish octopus) but on my last visit they also had softshell crab from South Carolina, fresh snapper and a few other specials that were seasonal. I love seasonal specials! But sometimes the chef focuses so much on seasonal specials that some old favorites are neglected. Not so here. Some items were a bit of a miss. The salad that we received was excellent, and the tuna was seared beautifully, but the tomatoes were past their prime. They were a bit mealy. And the ravioli that was fried was good, but probably my least favorite dish. It was a bit too crispy, and so you lost some of the nuance and flavor of the mushroom inside, because it just tasted overly fried. It was so overly fried that the interior filling couldā€™ve been spinach or any other element substituted for the mushrooms, that is how little the mushroom flavors came through the frying. But my woodfired octopus was super tender as usual, and my daughterā€™s seasonal snapper was extraordinary! So fresh! In addition, the servers here are always attentive without being obtrusive, and thatā€™s really lovely. My only other complaint is a small one. Like Hectorā€™s other restaurant, they tend to push the bottled water, when Asheville tap is perfectly fine. In fact, our tapwater is excellent! And I really wish they would return to having iced tea. Sometimes when Iā€™m having a big lunch and a nice salad (and the octopus, of course) I just really like to have some good brewed ice tea, and they took it off the menu a few years ago, and Instead seem to be pushing the bottled waters and the bottled specialty sodas. I know, selling the bottles help with the profit margin, but Please please bring back good-old brewed iced tea.

My boyfriend and I came here on New Years Eve and we had such an amazing experience. We had a small wait for our table so they sat us at the bar while we waited. We ordered a Peach Bellini and an old fashion, both drinks were made to perfection. Once seated we ordered the crab cakes and grilled octopus both very flavorful but the octopus was my favorite. We shared the lamp chops for our entree and the entire dish was delicious. Our overall experience was a 10/10. I definitely recommend.

Best restaurant in town. Chef Hector DĆaz will give you the best experience of your life. Heā€™s one of the only owners that still cooks for his guests! An original in this beautiful foodie town. Such a difficult choice to be made with his skillfully composed menu. Enjoy the beautiful ambiance and the greatest presentation/service this food could have (ask for bow tie Eli) Come hungry and youā€™ll leave full and satisfied.

OK let me just say that this is by far one of the best restaurants that I've gone to in Asheville. For Italian, it may be one of the top five restaurants in my arsenal of restaurants in the world. I'm a pilot, and I travel very often all over the world, and especially in the United States. This place is a hidden gem and it's classy and romantic and casual...All mixed in one!! And the food is absolutely spectacular. Oh you can't go wrong with the Rainbow Caprese salad. This by far was the BEST that I've ever had with all the spices and garlic and pepper to top it off, and it was a crunchy topping to make it even more enticing!!! I personally got the chicken Parmesan with the homemade in-house made Bucitini pasta and it was to die for. Put on some red pepper flakes and Parmesan and you have yourself a beautiful and delicious meal I had to old fashions and they made it right with wild turkey whiskey and they werenā€™t shy with the pour!! The service with Darren is highly and greatly appreciated He tunes in to all of the details and is constantly checking in on me, he offered some favorite suggestions and since I was a solo table, he knew that I did not require much attention but still he was there to see if I needed anything regularly. Thank you to the cooks and all of the staff at Modesto Ristorante!! I'll be back!!

Our ā€œgo toā€ restaurant in Asheville never disappoints! Been there dozens of times yet it always impresses both with the expansive menu and the top notch service. The gifted chef creates incredible flavor pairings in each dish. Unlike most restaurants where I order a reliable favorite, at Modesto I try a different dish each timeā€¦ knowing it will be yet another gastronomic favorite! Nice wine selection round out the meal, but then again, we canā€™t resist the craft made cocktails by Josh at the bar! Make your reservation. You wonā€™t regret it!

Really flavorful food. I have never had such good pizza crust! It was light and airy, but still thick. They had a lot of varied choices for pizza. The food did take a really long time though. We were one of only 2 tables there for lunch (we came right when they opened) and it took over 30 minutes to get our food. It could be because I ordered the pizza though. The tiramisu was good as well.
