After a long day of fishing, I decided on Idle Hour Biergarten after reviewing several restaurants in the area.
My bartender was so genuinely friendly , down-to-earth with a positive attitude!
Idle had a cool decor and seating inside and nice outside patio seating.
The owners actually showed to have dinner & drinks. Bartender told me there come in often when they are in town. I had the ‘BAJA Chicken Tacos’ and they amazing!
Wow!! Really enjoyed this place!! Food was so delicious and our server was just the greatest!! She was so helpful and just and so sweet! We had the grilled blackend MahiMahi basket and the house burger! Also the fried cheese curds and Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese! It was fantastic! The atmosphere was really nice! We dinned in the outside area and it was amazing, like you were actually on the beach!
Great Friday night experience. Fun music, great outdoor atmosphere. French fries were some of the best I have ever had! Pickle chips - delicious, blackened shrimp tacos - delicious. I would highly recommend this place - we really enjoyed it!
I enjoyed eating at Idle Hour Biergarten. The house burger and bavarian pretzel tasted very good. The burger was well cooked and topped with onions, pickles, and special sauce. The pretzel was soft, buttered, and also came with special sauces. The meal and overall atmosphere was pleasant and the prices were reasonable. Our waitress was friendly, but took a long time to take our order and the food took awhile. Other than that, this is a very pleasant low-key restaurant by the ocean.
Our new favorite spot. My husband can't stop talking about the painkillers, they're that good. The pretzel was great and the mustard sauce was the best I've ever had. Only complaint is the wings were very small but they were still really good! The live music, friendly staff, phenomenal drinks, and relaxing atmosphere make it our new favorite.
Omg!!! Best fish tacos ever! Shay was an amazing bar tender and recommended the blacked fish tacos and I'm so glad that I ordered them. They also have house made salsa which is also delicious. I wasnt impressed with the nachos but the atmosphere was great. I'll definitely be back.
Didn't eat so I can't speak to the food. The drink selection was solid and not overpriced, the special cocktail I had was great, and the server was nice and prompt (if a little distracted). What killed it for me were the flies (horrible), the garbage that obviously hasn't been changed in an acceptable timely manner (when you run a restaurant/bar, you don't just wait till it's full. It can become a problem long before that), and the small group of obnoxious locals who, while not overly offensive, were obviously making everyone else there uncomfortable.
They get a pass on the locals, but I have to take a star for the garbage and flies. I've certainly dealt with worse and don't generally consider myself a snob, but it's hard to enjoy a few cocktails when you're fishing flies out of it and can smell the garbage.
Ate here for the first time on Wednesday 8/18/21....and we will be back and back and back again! Perfect menu. Perfect setting. Great service (Thank you Mercedes!) 100 percent recommended and insist you try it out if you're in the Atlantic Beach area!

My wife and I Went to Idle Hour for our anniversary after strolling on the beach and had an absolutely fantastic time. Stephanie B. gave us amazing service and made some really great beer suggestions. Our burgers came out just right and were to DIE for!!
Cool local joint with a small indoor seating area but a very large outdoor beer garden. Friendly staff & wide selection of beers, including some German style beers. I highly recommend the grilled Mahi and also the fried fish. Both the onion strings and seasoned fries are worth trying.
We really enjoyed our experience at Idle Hour Biergarten. We needed a place to eat on our way back home from the Cape Lookout National Seashore that was dog friendly. This place was perfect! The outdoor seating area is so nice with shade, yard games, and they even brought fresh water for our dog. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. It was the perfect ending to our trip.

As far as beach cafes go, this spot is great. Can't see the water, but the outdoor setting doesn't disappoint. Great burger, fried shrimp, and margaritas.
First time to go to Idle Hour yesterday and will definitely not be our last. This place was great from the moment we stepped through the doors. Everyone was super friendly (the owner even came by our table). We couldn’t have gotten any better service, our waitress and the bartender were awesome. The food was so delicious. We all had different food and nothing was disappointing. The foods we had were the house burger, blackened shrimp basket, blackened flounder basket, bavarian pretzel, fries and onion straws. Can’t wait to go back and try something different. If you are anywhere in the area of Atlantic Beach, this is definitely a place worth visiting.
I had the house burger and fries. It was delicious and the service was very good. I recommend going and giving it a try.
