great tex mex and pretty good service. Overall it is a fun place to eat
Good menu of all the mexican classics including fajitas, tacos, and enchiladas. Solid bar menu with an assortment of margaritas as you would expect. Good light corn chips with pico de gallo, guacamole, and queso. What's not to like? And the prices are more than fair.
Chuy's is a decent outlet in Barton Hills, Austin.

The place is great if you want to have tex-mex cuisine. We had to wait for 25 minutes before getting a table. But they do have chips and salsa that you can eat while waiting for your table.
The ambience is nice overall, though it feels a little overcrowded with the close tables and fancy decoration. It has ample seating. The service is amazingly polite, though it was a little slow owing to the rush that we encountered. The food is also very good. We ordered cheese quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas and chile rellenos, all of which were amazing in taste.
A great place to try in my opinion, and definitely value for money.
Walking into Chuy’s feels like entering a party. The atmosphere is loud, fun, and colorful! Guests love that it represents the “Keep Austin Weird” mentality of the city. Kids will love checking out the eclectic decorations and coloring their own Chuy’s fish logo. The happy hour includes a free queso bar that includes the famous creamy jalepeno dip!
Had lunch during the week. We've been to locations in Waco and Round Rock but first time to go to the original. Atmosphere was fantastic, wait staff superior and the food was excellent. We both had taco plates and chips with salsa and jalapeño ranch, awesome. Also had traditional mojitos. Wonderful experience.
Crispy rellenos that are actually crispy. Soooooo good. I had them with creamy jalapeño sauce. My dad loved the queso. The tres leches was also amazing. Most of the places where I'm from has soggy rellenos and I'm constantly disappointed. Come to Colorado!
Finally!!! Mexxxxiicccaannnnnnn fooooodddddd - been craving for it! I love their cheese rellianos, love their chips and salsa as well. I can recall dining in chuys 2 times a week when I am residing in Texas full time! How i missed! Glad to be back!!!
Wow!. Wanting Tex-Mex in Austin, this location was most highly recommend by friends. Served chips an bowls of fresh but not spicy salsa and a tangy ranch dip was a nice start to our meal. He chose the Monday special - two cream enchiladas. Pronounced good, we finished every bite. My eyes were too big for my stomach when I ordered the Elvis Presley special - taco, cheese enchilada beef enchilada, chicken green tomatillo enchilada. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. Asking for a to-go container brought another great surprise - I was wowed with an entire bag extra chips with more salsa and ranch dip.
When traveling in this area again, we would return.
Great. Besides the waiter forgetting my straw, the food was GREAT! Baja fish tacos and queso were the best, my husband loved his chicka chicka boom boom meal as well, spicy! Ask for extra jalapeño ranch.
First place we ever ate at in Texas!. OH MY GOODNESS! The best food I have EVER had! If I could, I would eat here EVERY week! The staff is super nice and the food is to die for! I love their enchiladas! I got the Elvis Presley platter this past time we went and it was SO FILLING! If you haven't tried this place, you need to NOW! =)
Everything is fabulous. Excellent Tex-Mex with great variety of salsas and unique spice flavors. They serve great margaritas. Try the "Chic-a-Boom enchiladas. They are a house specialty and are very tasty! Enjoy!
Thumbs Up!. Good food and good value. And old restaurante that is well maintained and superb decor for a tex-mex. excellent food & service
One of the best Tex-Mex joints in the ATX! As the original, this Chuy's is eclectic, iconic, and the food is spectacular. The jalapeño ranch dip is a must and the famous Chuychanga is more than worth it.
What a way to finish a great weekend. Just came back from Kerrville where we had a incredible dining experience at a place called Kukaroo Pub. Got back to Austin to tired to cook, as new comers to austin we had never gone to chuys boy did not know what we we're missing. Being from the midwest we had what we thought was texmex man were we wrong. This was tex mex at it's best. From the chips and salsa to the enchiladas all I can say is yum
We just got a Chuy's in Oklahoma, but my boyfriend and I haven't been. Since we were in Austin visiting we decided to give it a go. Everything about it was amazing. Our server was awesome, the manager visited our table and brought us a sampling of sauces, and the food was delicious! We also ordered Father Agave margaritas and could've drank way more then we did! We would definitely recommend it!
Love me some Chuy's. We frequent Chuy's on Barton Springs road. We have only been to one other Chuy's location, but this is our favorite. Super sweet staff and they have a salsa bar that you can snack while you wait. I have tried the burritos, enchiladas, rellenos, and tacos, but by far, my favorite is the combo fajitas. The steak is so tender and lean and the chicken is flavorful. I don't think you could go wrong with Chuy's, and my 9 year old picky eater loves the kids mini tacos.
Woo-Wee Woo-Wee We Love Chuy's!. With its sensory overload decor, Elvis shrine and ubiquitous King memorabilia, NASCAR-like fast service, and overall kitschiness, this is perfect for your Tex Mex Flex. My Amigos, they have Car Fins on the wall! Princess B had Taco Salad w/ample dressing and I had the Chile Rellenos (any veggie that's battered, fried, & stuffed w/cheese, is absolutely ambrosial!). The Peach Ritas left PB feeling, well, peachy. The only disappointment was, after we had settled our bill which had our ordered & charged Queso on it, we discovered the Fully-Loaded Nacho Car which has FREE chips, salsa, and QUESO. I suppose we'll consider it as a surcharge for our intro to the Chuy's Fullosophy.
Wow. Great service. Fabulous food. Keep it up Ted and the gang
Chuy's New Mexican Cuisine. Forget the "Tex-Mex", I go to Chuy's as really the only place in town for New Mexican green chile. Both sauces, the Hatch and the vegetarian green chile sauce are New Mexican authentic. I particularly like the Veggie Enchiladas, the Relleno/Enchilada Combo, and a simple Bean & Cheese Burrito with green chile sauce all over it. The daily specials often include New Mexican dishes and are so worth checking out too. Save the Tex-Mex for someplace else and have a little New Mexico right here in Austin.
Real TexMex. ...growing up in Texas, I have always loved TexMex food. After spending 20yrs away from the state, I never had the experience of great TexMex food as I did in this great state, basically, I missed it. I just returned to Texas and experienced Chuys for the first time and I was not disappointed. I ordered two meals, plus my guests ordered their own. I tasted all 4 entrees and all 4 were delicious. This is a true TexMex restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone. I am a really picky eater and I basically licked the plate (not literally) lol. Great Job Chuys! see you next time!
Good fun. Crowded, popular local chain. We all enjoyed our meals. I liked all the creative Elvis kitsch. The margaritas were tasty, but not large or strong.
I know the food is fantastic, but the hostesses made the wait a fun experience. Their patience and friendliness to all different types of customer personalities was refreshing.
Enjoy the King with Fish & Chips. Chuy Gooey, the perfect mess! I don't see it on the menu anymore. But no matter what location I go to, the staff knows what it is and always accommodates my secret order. I have literally ordered it as a meal before. The first time we ordered it we realized we couldn't finish the appetizer and an entrée.
What great choices and what a unique take on Tex Mex, I fell in love with Chuy's at this location. And clearly I am not the only one that loves this place; we were driving in from New Braunfels one Sunday morning and decided to stop in Austin for lunch. We got to the Barton Springs location just after they opened and were seated right away. By the time we were shown to that neat booth under the quarter panel there was already a wait. When we have waited, it's really not that bad, by the time you gawked at all the fish and the King it's about time to get your own table.
I have never ordered anything at any Chuy's location that I did not thoroughly enjoy. Some of my favorites other than the Chuy Gooey are Ponchos Nachos with beef fajita meat, the Chuy's Special with shredded chicken, cheese and Tomatillo sauce. I have tired some of their dishes that have a lower guilt factor like the Veggie and it was very good, I never missed the meat.
And I love Happy Hour at Chuy's, the bar has a cool scene we find the best deal is the Texas Martini. We really enjoy that the trunk of the car is always full of chips, salsa, caso, beans and carne that you can help yourself too as much as you please.
I am so glad to see Chuy's give Arlington another try; we won't let you go this time.
Great Austin tradition.... You are in Austin and you have eaten at Chuy's. Thats how it goes. The salsa is great and I love the jalapeno and cream dip. I love the texas martinis. This place make the cocktails like they mean business. I like the Elvis combo, the macho burrito (only available on a certain day), the fajitas and flautas but you cant go wrong with any item here. You should absolutely not miss out on the tres leches cake here. It is the best in town and out of town too. The icing on the cake is you cant beat their price/quality deal.
Chuy's on Barton Springs. If this is cutting edge tex-mex food, then the edge is dull. But Chuy's is an institution, just not for the food.
It's about atmosphere, drinks, and slightly retro tee shirts. It is about experiencing what put Austin on the map.
Delicious!. I can't remember the dish that I ate, but it was very good. What I do remember was that they use catfish in their fish taco's "burn"!!!
By far the best Tex-Mex I have ever had. Friendly service and fantastic food!
Came here had a blast. Waited 45 min to be seated. Crazy place hub caps on ceiling, mirrors on walls, elvis pictures every where. Fun place on the food awwwwesome.
Best chip dips ever. The spicy creamy jalapeno ranch is out of this world.
I absolutly LOVE Chuy's! They have great food, great service and overall I give this place an A+++++
Best Tex-Mex in Austin Texas. There are people that like "authentic" mexican food and will swear by Guero's Taco Bar as the best Mex in Austin. But give me Chuy's over any mexican food place in Austin. The "big as your face burritos" will melt your mind they are so good. You can also get wheat tortillas which is really nice. The only problem with this place is how popular it is. Don't even think about going on a weekend for dinner, seriously, don't even attempt it. Their drinks are pretty astounding if you enjoy a good margarita. But whenever my out of state friends come visit Austin and want Tex-Mex, Chuy's is where I always take them, I've never heard a complaint yet.
Chuys is listed on Austin Chronicle’s First Plates, the list of favorite plates in Austin. With names of their food like “Big as Yo’ Face” and “Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom”, it doesn’t take long to realize this restaurant is a fun, charming favorite in Austin. Definitely enjoy your meal with a one of their margaritas, made with freshly squeezed limes.
Great experience but not a big waiting area while your table’s getting ready. Overall great food with the chips and salsa at the beginning, the first time I’ve ever had stuffed avocado which was awesome, and my wife had the beef/chicken fajita. Pretty cool experience for dinner and without breaking the bank!
Chuy's has always been one of my favorite places to go. Great food, wonderful ambience, and excellent hospitality. That's until today.
Great service from the waitress that served our table. Absolutely wonderful 👍 and I thank her with my full heart.
Not much vegetarian options anymore, probably post-Covid effect.
The Guacamole Taco is literally a soft taco with garnished Guac. Left us wondering and wanting more.
The Veggie Enchilada is good but left me thinking something more desired. A few more veggies would be better. The side jalapenos helped put them down thru.
Spanish rice is good 👍 and tasteful 👌.
Thus is a quirky Tex Mex place in Austin that has an infatuation with Elvis. So of course I had to order the Elvis Memorial Combo :)
Everything was fresh and flavorful and the portions are generous for the money. The Salsa has some good zip which always makes me happy. The chips are too fragile and break when trying to get a scoop.
Delicious and authentic Tex Mex. The aesthetics and ambiance really give you the perfect blend of Texas and Mexico. Everything tasted amazingly fresh. The plates were huge. The frozen margaritas was nice and had a decent amount of liquor. You definitely get a great bang for your buck.
Great steak and guacamole topped nachos and frozen raspberry rita (with real raspberry puree,) great service and amazing people watching at this jumping bar. I also love that Elvis is in the building here ! ❤️ I always have a good time at Chuys.
Ashley was great! Very quick and never missed a beat! Food was incredible and came out hot and fast! Loved the atmosphere, very old timey.
Amazing place to try if you want to taste real Mexican foods. I tried Baja shrimp and veggie enchiladas with boom boom sauce. It was wonderful and did not expect they can give a taste close to Mexico. The price is reasonable $12 for each dish and the service was nicely done. Thanks for that. Wait time was 10mins and they were kind enough to allow us to buy drinks during the wait time which can be billed separately. Overall the place has a good atmosphere with old guitars and wood fish, as Texas and Mexico fused.
Give it a try when you go to barton springs/ Zilker park /lady bird lake. Don't miss you will thank me. Thank you Chuys for having quality and tasty foods and respecting all cultures. Hats off to your employees for this.
Anytime I’m in a new town for work, I’m checking if a Chuy’s is nearby. I’ve tried several items on the menu and there isn’t a bad item to be found! However, my favorite dish by far is the steak burrito with boom boom sauce. It’s even better when you pour some of the creamy jalapeño ranch over it too. So amazing. Can’t recommend this chain enough!
I liked the strawberry margaritas and i am glad they had some options that could be modified to be vegan. Our server Sunny (Suny?) was great, she was attentive and friendly. Only downside is it can get pretty busy and have an insane wait time.
Came here for lunch on a busy Thursday. The place was crowded and loud, but it was great. We got seated quickly and the service was extremely friendly. And the food was delicious in very generous portions. Will definitely come back when in the area again!
I personally hate Tex-Mex restaurants but this one really impressed me. It’s more of an 80’s decorated restaurant with Elvis Presley as the main character. The food is actually pretty good, and the prices are not very expensive. The only thing I didn’t like was the taste of the rice.
Lauren the manager treated me with the upmost respect and truly appreciate the good service/response from this manager after an issue with the server. Food was absolutely great, service from the server was not after she complained about the tip. I'm giving 5 stars because the service itself was good, just not the ungrateful response from the server.
Delightful discovery of this busy tex-mex busy Restaurant after a lake hike. We had a 20 min wait and put on a wait list to get notified ia text when table is ready. Kicked off with some margaritas. The new Mexican was nice. Menu had nice choices of tacos and enchiladas. Boom boom sauce was nice. Warm churros for dessert. Server was courteous and service great. Great ceilings and colorful walls. Seating is available both inside and outside.
What an excellent meal! Our server Wesy was pleasant and on point, food was as good as ever and drinks were fantastic. I’ll be back for sure. Thank you Chuy’s!!
Omg everything here is really good and big portions, big plates (just warning) my husband and in enjoyed tho, the rice and beans are delicious, my panchos (nachos) were amazing i highly recommended it if you are a nacho lover, definitely nothing fancy but felt really authentic Mexican and deliciously simple home made food, just be aware about the portions they are big compare to other Mexican places we ate, also it has its own parking in the back, the decoration was really neat posted a picture too, we ll definitely will go back when we come to Austin area!
Gotta go here for some authentic Tex-Mex. We’re locals and we always enjoy excellent food and cold drinks at the Barton Springs location. The steak burrito is amazing and huge enough to take half home. Try the creamy jalapeño salsa with the chips and ask for all of their delicious salsas. Great margaritas and ice cold beer. Great service and a fun, lively atmosphere. Free and easy parking. Recommend!
I'm new to Austin, been here 2 months, been to Chuys atleast 6 times already. Great food. Value for Money.
Tex mex meets diner. Great affordable tex mex. Be aware that it does get busy though. We had the fajitas (for 1) and enchiladas. The fajitas were huge and we could have shared the between the two of us. Comes with free chips and salsa to start.
Staff were busy but very attentive to us.
Would recommend if you want that small town diner feel, but also want tex mex. Great food.
