I enjoyed everything about this restaurant. We had the candied bacon guacamole which was excellent. They also had other varieties of guacamole and queso that I can't wait to try. The tacos are good sizes and delicious. The Philly cheese steak taco is my favorite. The service is also exceptional. Larry took excellent care of us and everyone working there seemed very friendly.
Hold your seahorses because there is a new restaurant in town: Trudy’s Del Mar! This concept takes both tex-mex and seafood cuisines to give you a fun interesting twist with dishes such as:
- Del Mar Queso: queso blanco topped with shrimp, lobster, crab, pico, spinach, and avocado salsa - very creamy & the seafood flavors are very pronounced ($16)
- Blood Orange Ceviche: mahi mahi and shrimp mixed with blood orange pico, sesame seeds, radish, and mint - a refreshing, light appetizer ($15)
- Del Mar Guacamole: guacamole topped with shrimp, lobster, crab, pico, chives, and olive oil - great, but feel the Del Mar style works better in queso instead ($16)
- Yucatan Bacon Guacamole: guacamole topped with pineapple pico, queso, cotija, cholula, and candied honey bacon - my fav! ($14)
- Tacos: there are 9 types to choose from (some unique, some regular) and I got: Lobster ($14), Seared Tuna Pastor ($9), Crab Cake ($7), and Candied Pastor Bacon ($5) - Candied Bacon was my fav. The others were good, but a bit pricey imo
- Del Mar Grill: shrimp, lobster tail, steak fajita, and jalapeño sausage with veggies served with rice, beans, and tortillas - great dish if you want something to share with people ($48)
- Honey Cholula Chicken: crispy chicken marinated in honey and cholula hot sauce with veggies - nice crisp outside, soft tender inside ($20)
- Mezcal Mangonada: a mezcal-based marg with mango, orange, lime juice, and tajin - a good contrast of smokey & sweet ($14)
- The 1942: a Don Julio 1942 tequila-based marg with lime juice and agave - may be pricey, but it’s STRONG ($20)
- Carrot Cake French Toast Sundae: 2 pieces of carrot cake cooked like French toast with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream - A MUST GET & can easily be shared with 2-4 people ($10)
Overall, there is a wide selection of options to choose from. The prices may seem a bit on the higher end, but the portions are big and most things here are shareable. I liked everything I got and don't have much critical feedback. That said, I give them a 4.5/5 for being amazing! They're now one of my new fav spots.
Brunch is amazing! We were able to get a table when a lot of other local breakfasts joints all had 25+ minute waits.
Highly recommend the carrot cake French toast and of course the house tortilla chips and salsa are phenomenal!
Food, service and ambiance was fuego!
We got the top shelf and strawberry Mexican martini and both were fantastic. They gave both drinks with two two giant stuffed olives so if you don't care to eat these I'd suggest telling them to keep them. The tequila old fashioned I did not like. Too sweet.
We got the tuna apatizer and was wonderful. I wished they'd have served this with spoons so I can enjoy more of the juice. Flavor was on point though.
We ordered the Del Mar Grill which is basicalled everything. Lobster, shrimp, sausage, steak, veggies. It's served jafita style and I loaded mine up. Got the black beans on the refried as well. Highly recommend.
Lastly gotthe decadent French toast 🥕 cake. Man was this amazing. The Amy's ice cream it's served with was off the chain.
Very nice, quiet, yet uplifting atmosphere. The mango, Orange glazed ceviche with guacamole and corn was very tasty. The Mexican Martini was delightful. The Pozole with pork, radish, hominy, and purple cabbage garnish was superb. We will definitely be back!
The beignets are to die for delicious! I had the eggs Benedict and the eggs were cooked perfectly. My daughter had the fish and it was fantastic! My sister had the guacamole...yum! I highly recommend this place!
We tried the Calamari and Shrimp Cocktail for our starters. Both were excellent. The Calamari was unique with the crispy breading they used and the fried jalapeños they had in addition to the standard squid rings and tentacles. It came with a sweet mango aioli and red salsa that paired perfectly with the dish and the jalapeños weren't spicy, but added great flavor. The shrimp cocktail had sweet cocktail sauce with perfectly cooked shrimp and a fruity pico de gallo. Finally, for the entree we shared the Del Mar fajita plate. It came with our choice of corn or flour tortillas, black or refried beans, cilantro lime rice, lettuce, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream on the side. For the main platter, it had grilled zucchini, squash, onions, bell peppers, lobster, bacon and jalapeño wrapped shrimp, sausage, lobster and steak fajita. All of the meats were seasoned perfectly and had great flavor. My favorite was the steak as it was so tender. It was definitely more than enough food for two people. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. I would recommend it. Next time I might try the seafood tacos. They sounded so good.
This place is quickly becoming a SOCO favorite! I’ve been loving Trudy’s for years, so it’s only understandable the food is GREAT! Enjoyed the vibe at the bar during first Thursday happy hour. First I was in love with the music (Sara & Tegan), and everyone was so friendly. Amazing food, great prices, and groovy vibe!
Good atmosphere fast service, waiter was very pleasant, helpful and courteous. No wait inside but patio seating was first come first serve. Patio looked like it had a fun vibe. Food was okay but pricey.
Great upscale chain of Trudy’s. Food was great! Perfect amount for an afternoon lunch. Just opened so still not too busy for being on Congress.
So good! You have chips and salsa the drinks are very nice and the food was delicious not to mention there was no wait time on a Saturday night very impressed
Great place to eat, great drinks, very attentive staff and fast service. Loved it, will eat there again when in town. I would suggest to anyone to go and eat there!
Great service. Cool atmosphere. Awesome food. Couldn't ask for more... Well maybe parking ..
Amazing Brunch!!! We will definitely drive back for these delicious dishes
Nice patio seating! We sat under a tree for some shade and a cute scene! Food kind of pricey however, very tasty and delicious! Manager was extremely friendly and hospitable! Waiter was quick and friendly as well! Although I wouldn't go all the time an occasional stop pass for a drink and an appetizer is definitely the way to go for this place!
My husband and I came here for date night and it was some of the best food and service we've had. The Del Mar Grill fajita plate was amazing and worth every penny. The portion was huge and everything on it was excellent. The lobster tail was cooked to perfection and even the sides of refried black beans and cilantro lime rice had great flavor. We ended with the carrot cake French toast and this was probably one of the best desserts I've ever had. Our server was lovely and made the experience even better. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be coming back! Thank you for such an enjoyable meal and evening!!!
Fantastic patio in the back of the restaurant, with two televisions and a bar with tables for seating as well. Not a large selection on the menu. Prices are a little lower than what you would expect on South Congress. nothing spectacular, the dishes are served with plenty of food. Most of the dishes are repetitious with the same items found on variable plates, such as roasted potatoes and mixed vegetables. The honey chicken is fantastic and enough for two people.
If I had a favorite meal this weekend it would hands down be here! When we called at 5pm on a Saturday, asking about seating for 8, we were not sure if they could accommodate. Not only did they seat us, the service was above fabulous. The food... OH THE FOOD... I'm still thinking about it. Best fish tacos, and guacamole I've had!!!!!!! We all left the restaurant raving about how the food was so so stinking great. Honestly it is the best place on the street! Run to Trudy's - you will not be disappointed!!!!
We had the most magnificent time and dinner. We came from out of town to stay the night before our flight. We went to a couple other restaurants and found them to be too loud or not the atmosphere we were desiring. My husband had grown up in the Austin area so he recommended we go to Trudy’s cause we knew we would get good food and drinks and he was right on! We had the most magnificent waitress that was so attentive and sweet. We definitely recommend Trudy’s Del Mar off South Congress for great atmosphere, delicious food, wonderful drinks, and amazing service!
