Joey Rocha Breakfast!!! I licked the plate clean. I am not joking. The carne guisada was to die for and the bacon, oh my oh my. And the greatest treat of all is that i got to meet Mrs. Rose Ann Maciel and got to take a picture with her. (Pic in the comment) She took me all the way back to the 1920's when it was just pan con cafe. What a treat! I have been hearing abt this place for abt 17 years and I never could get around to making it. Today was the day. Thank you so much and I will definitely be coming back very soon. I highly, highly recommend Joe's Bakery & Coffee Shop.

Great authentic food, very reasonable prices. Enchiladas has always been my favorite, but everything on the menu is great. Best salsa in town. Don't leave without trying the bacon! Very crowded, literally shoulder-to-shoulder dining. You order, you get your food, they leave you alone unless you need coffee, water, or tea. (If you want to be pandered then go to Trudy's.) Very much a family restaurant, if you are nice you get better service. Very large portions, I always leave full and take a doggy box. They have a wonderful Bakery, but get there early to get your favorites. They close at 3:00.

Consistency in food and service and smiles but if you want some of that Pan Dulce (Mexican Sweet Bread-Pastries) you better get there early. If was bad before but now with the influx of the trendy folks moving into the East-Side buying up everything with any smell, look and or taste of culture which Joe's Bakery has tons of well like I said "Get There Early". Loved it when I was little and still love it now. Favorite? The carne guisada taco of course with the gravy dripping out of it when you bite into it !!

People already know that if you go for lunch during the week or on the weekends for breakfast and lunch there is a waiting time. So if you go with that thought on your mind, then it won't be a big deal. I love their migas with cheese, tomato and jalapenos. Their carne guisada is delicious on a flour tortilla slightly toasted.

Ohhhh man, I came here to try my first ever breakfast tacos and they put me in the best mood! The place was packed but I was seated straight away - the servers were SO nice and fun and gave me suggestions on what to order - I got the carne guisada and the potato and egg with cheese bacon added - both were incredible and bacon was the crispiest (not hard!) bacon I have ever eaten - apparently they coat it in flour before frying!! The prices were awesome, the tortillas were freshly made and the ambience of the place was just so lovely and warm. The house salsa was also delish! I’d come back here in a heartbeat :)

I love the migas taco. Peppers, tomatoes, good spicy salsa verde on the side. The chorizo and egg taco was a tad plain for me.

Can't believe I have lived in Austin more than half my life and never been to Joe's!! So good! Best refried beans, guacamole was great and queso is my new favorite! Tacos, enchiladas, carne guisada all super delicious! I almost forgot the Chips are perfect and the verde salsa I could drink! A new family must! You will not be disappointed!

East Austin Icon. I'm pretty disappointed with myself for living on the East Side for 7 years and not trying this place the whole time. It pretty much hits all my buttons: excellent food, great service, awesome atmosphere, and history, history, history! 50 years plus is quite an achievement in Austin, and today's breakfast was the reason. My buddy Ren (local chef) told me when I moved to Austin to judge a Mexican restaurant by the carne guisada. Joe's may have the best in town. Beans are super creamy and lardy, tortillas are hot, salsa is green chili New Mexican style.... what else......oh, the sausage patties are inexplicably amazing. Planning on making up for lost time.

Hand's down, awesome food. BEST beef caldo, great picadillo & carne guisada, homemade flour tortillas, awesome breakfasts & chicken fried pork chops. However, the restaurant is always hot and packed, the kitchen is slow and they need folks that JUST serve chips, coffee & water. I can live with these flaws because of the food. Just make sure u r not in a hurry.

Consistently Good Eats. They have the BEST carne guisada I've ever tasted in Austin. No comparison, and I've tried a lot of different authentic east Austin Tex Mex over the last 25 years. The baked goods are really nice, too, especially the anise buns, I don't know what they're called, but the Tex-German half of me just loves me my anise :-)

Came here for some breakfast, and damn it was great. The food was on point, and the service was great. I got the Joey's Rocha plate and chicharone taco, and it was delicious. Price is reasonable for the portions, and the tacos were great, too. Our waitress and the whole place has a family vibe to it. They got pandulce and conchas as well. If you are in Austin visiting, definitely check them out.

Parking was available near the door, the wait wasn't long to be seated even though there was a line going out the door, servers were friendly, orders were taken correctly! The dining area was crowded and loud but the food was good! They did not split my groups check and they were out of straws. Overall, a good meal! 👍

Joe’s Bakery is beyond compare. It was one of only six restaurants in the country awarded the 2023 James Beard Award. It is a firm east side establishment that has been around for more than 70 years. If you don’t get there super early be prepared to wait. It’s that good. And totally worth the wait. Go check out this Austin original on E. 7th St…you won’t be disappointed

As soon as you drive up into the parking lot you feel like your going back in time. The art on the side of one of the buildings is pretty badass. The mural is a picture of Joe pencil, Robert de Niro, and Ray Liotta from the movie good fellas. Who ever the artist was they did an amazing job. The menu at the restaurant is short and to the point. They serve what they are good at and they are good at what they serve. The tables are something that you would find at your house. Some are round and some are square. It defenitely feels like home. The food was great and the atmosphere was even better. The concha bread was amazing and the service was awsome. The waitress treated us like her kids and had really good suggestions on what to eat, everything.

Picked a day in the middle of the week to avoid when this place is too busy. Its been around a long time and is quite popular. It was still busy on a Wednesday, but my colleague and I were seated immediately. I enjoyed the enchilada special which came with iced tea. My colleague had tacos and said they were delicious. Definitely will come back again to try other menu items.

I did a takeout for a friday breakfast. I got the Joey platter and I have to say it's the most delicious pork I've had recently. I also got the menudo. I think it tastes okay. The texture of the tripe is fantastic, soft but still chewy. In my opinion it would be better if they can work on getting rid of the unpleasant taste of intestines a little more. It's a little overpowering this time.

We got there and there were a lot of people waiting in their cars and outside, but they do talk about on their website about the wait time and I read good things on this place so we gave it a chance. The 45 minute wait we had was really only 17 mins. We were seated and ordered right away and it was a while before the food came, but it was worth the wait. The food was hot and really good and I liked how they had a smaller portion option for the plates cause I can never finish a whole plate so it came with half of everything for half the price. For two plates, 3 tacos and 3 conchas, and two drinks it was only $41 which I thought was really good with todays prices yesterday’s breakfast was $80 for less food. Only thing was there was a packaging fee but the website says any Togo orders will be charged a package fee but we had everything at the restaurant and nothing to go but it was only 1.12 so instead of mentioning it to them we counted it towards the fee because it was busy and hard to get someone to attend to us besides dropping off the food and picking it up. Place was a bit small but it has been around a long time so it was okay and the people were nice.
