Asia Cafe off Spicewood in Austin is delicious! I ordered the spicy beef soup which was so good! Authentic Chinese restaurant where guests were speaking Chinese; you know it’s good when the locals eat here. I’ll be back.
Wide selection of authentic and non authentic Chinese food on the menu. Various dishes were unavailable when we dined in. The house fish fillet with tofu was a little spicy. There are peppercorns in it that numbs your tongue for a few seconds. Salt & pepper squid was a little too salty for me but when you mix with the garlic sauce from the shrimp and scallop dish; it is perfect. The eggplant in garlic sauce is must order dish for me and it was delicious. Eggplants were cooked to the correct texture where it is not too soft and not too hard. Cannot wait to come back to try more dishes!
Went for dinner with my son. We ordered the more-sour-than-hot hot and sour soup. It tasted alright, I still think the chef could use more spicy than vinegar and reduce salt a bit. The other dish was sizzling Beef in black peppercorn sauce, again too salty for my stomach. We also ordered deep fried tofu with seafood which cooked just right. One thing to notice was that no more free ice water and hot tea were served, owner charged $1 for a bottle of water and a glass of tea. It kinda felt awkward.
In Austin for work. Restaurant is next to my hotel. Came yesterday and ate Gen Tso Chicken and Devil Shrimp, it was very very good and I left a great review. It was so good I came back today and got spicy Mongolian Beef, and also tried the spicy chicken wings. Hands down the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. Great portions, very good price, great service. Worth the drive from anywhere in Austin!
Amazingly good Chinese food! Their menu is vast and it's all fantastic, then they have weekly specials that aren't on the menu that are great too. I eat there all the time and still have so many new and wonderful things to try. I have never had a bad meal here. It's all great. The worst problem is that there's new things to try but you're hungry for that last great thing again. Asia Cafe is my go-to Chinese food take out place. 10/10, they won't disappoint.
Not much ambiance to the restaurant, but the good food is the allure. Chicken fried rice was rather bland - needed to add a lot of soy sauce. The fried duck was awesome! Not just the breast meat, but the whole duck chopped up. We also tried the general tso’s chicken and spicy beef flank. Both very tasty and the beef has a nice heat to it. Definitely would recommend and return again!
Asia Cafe is just off Hwy 183 and Spicewood Springs Road. Lots of parking and they have a big dining area with smaller private rooms for larger parties. Counter-style ordering and you’ll be assigned an order number for take out or eat in.
Food: Yangchow fried rice, broccoli beef, sweet and sour pork ribs, and a number of their soups are tasty.
Service: Again, as it’s counter-style ordering, they may call your number and you have to go to the front to collect your food on a tray. Self service for utensils, etc.
Cost: Anywhere from $12-$18 for an entree. We have found that portion sizes are much better for your buck when you eat in versus takeout.
Note: One irksome thing about eating here is they do not provide water, you’ll have to buy it.
Takes cards and cash and has a rewards system to earn points to redeem for water (ha!) or other specified dishes.
The Asian food here is delicious and affordable, and the menu has a lot of options, including dishes with pork, chicken, seafood, and duck. The size of the meals are really big and can easily feed two people. The service is fast and the waiters are polite. The only “bad” side is that the place is very simple/old, so I do not recommend for a special date.
Life's a garden, can you dig it Michelle?

Always great hot and fresh food. I have tried several menu items and have not been let down. If you want something yummy and healthy I order the steamed shrimp and scallops and veggies 😋 and have them add a steamed jalapeno sliced in there if you want some heat. I had stir fry noodles with chicken shrimp and pork with jalapeno this evening.
This is certainly one of the hidden gems of North Austin. From the outside looking in I'd imagine most people wouldn't think much from this Chinese restaurant, but they would be wrong. This place is my favorite Chinese food anywhere. I've gone here a countless amounts of times and I have always really enjoyed the food.
The way this particular restaurant works is as follows. You select the dishes you want from their massive menu. Once each one of your dishes is ready, they will call your order number for you to pick up your food so you can bring it back to your table. For the best Chinese food ever, I know that seems a little strange but I assure you it is well worth it.
I frequent this restaurant with my friends and we generally have four dishes we always get: Orange Chicken, Teppan Black Peppered Beef, Salt and Pepper Fish, and Stir Fried Water Spinach. These are all superb dishes. Additionally, my friends and I will order a few new dishes with those base dishes each time so I have tried a good deal of many of the dishes they offer. More often than not the new dishes we order are just as fantastic as the above referenced ones. I can also say there Stir Fried Noodle dish is fantastic as well.
It's also important to note that the food here is all reasonably priced and not on the expensive side. If you go here on Friday or Saturday during regular dinner hours; expect this place to be packed. Please note that this restaurant also has around three to four rooms where you and your party can exclusively eat together. Happy hunting for your favorite base dishes.
The food was really tasty and the workers were very friendly. I definitely want to come back to try more dishes in the future.
I was in Austin for the weekend and found the Asia Cafe online because it had good reviews. Unfortunately, someone painted the entire shopping center black. I guess they got a special on cheap black paint. I almost turned around as that look is not at all inviting but I was there so gave it a try. It is a very basic restaurant, nothing fancy which is fine. Just order at the counter. I ordered the Spicy Chicken and it was spicy! It was made to order and the service was very fast. The order was large enough to take about half home which is seen in the take out box. Yes, that is half of the serving. I came back the next day and ordered the Mongolian Lamb. It was extremely tender and overall very good.
Decent Chinese food for the area. I frequent here and tried various dishes - and I echo the sentiment that there’s a charge for bottled water and tea.
The food itself is pretty good and it stayed around after the pandemic. To me, this is the standard for what average cheap Chinese food should taste like, especially in Austin.
I'm so in love with Asia Cafe. There is nothing special to note about the atmosphere and that's not what Asia Cafe is about. It's about the delicious Chinese unique dishes and classic dishes they serve. The staff is so helpful and friendly. The food is very fresh, flavorful and prepared with great care. Sometimes they serve special items not on the regular menu so check out the boards where you place your order with the cashier. I strongly recommend any of the dumpling and steamed pork buns to start. Honestly, the food is great and be adventurous. Try a different dish each time, the food is delicious. Go here, give them a try. Their portions are large. I love this place for authentic Chinese dishes 💛
This is by far one of the two best Chinese places in Austin. And by that I mean authentic Chinese food not general tsao or orange chicken. The food here is Schezwan style but their menu is extensive. This place has the largest number of Chinese dishes served by far. They have additional specials and daily specials on the whiteboard that you won't find in the menu. There is always a crowd and a line and you won't ever find this place empty. The best past is that the service speed is really fast and the serving sizes are more than ample. No table service, you line up, order at the counter and then your number gets announced at which point you have to get up and fetch your food. The decor is antiquated but nothing much to complain here. They have a big dining area and smaller rooms as well for group seating. We have tried a lot of dishes here but the pork dishes are really amazing and so the potato with chives. Give it a try and I'm sure you will come back, well only if you like Chinese food. The shopping complex this is in is a little dull though but don't be fooled by that. They have takeout boxes for leftovers.
This is my favorite Szechuan place in Austin. Have been going since it was in the back of the market. This is a big group kind of place where it’s best to order family style and get little bits of a dozen different dishes, I don’t really like to go with fewer than 6 people. Some favorites are Twice Cooked Fish, Chong Chin Chicken (you have to like eating lots of the red peppers, avoid the the ones that didn’t get deseeded and it’s not too bad), beef with cumin (pretty spicy), Snow pea leaves, Salt & Pepper Eggplant stuffed with Pork, and so many more.
I do wish they had a premium green tea offering.
The food was good although my mom's dish had a lot of oil over it. I think the waitress had a white mask so I let my mother order for us. There are boxes in the hallway which aren't pleasant to walk around.
