Last night's birthday celebration with my sister was all about the food, all about the flavor and all about the fun! Gary, our server, was attentive and expertly guided us through the Kemuri dining adventure. We started with a blowfish bowl of Puff Puff Pass cocktail for two and chilled, rolled towels for a refreshing transition into a colorful and crazy fusion of Asia fresh and Barbecue smoke. Every bite was a delicious surprise. A rice tamale was stuffed with tender brisket and touched with bright chili sauce and soy sauce. Little yakitoris of smoked tongue and tender scallops melted and made way for the thinnest possible pickled cucumber slices wth seaweed and grilled octopus. The fish collar was the food of angels, not to be missed, and the hot pocket......well, just try it. I am already dreaming of another stab at trying everything on the menu!
First visit here, and it was amazing! Love the Texas/Japanese decor and being greeted by the staff upon entrance. The wait staff was on point with service and suggestions based on our likes. And we tried over 10 dishes at our table and they were all delicious and creative. From top to bottom, One of my top ATX meals!
This is my current favorite spot in Austin. We ate there last night for the first time. We had of course been to Ramen Tatsu-ya plenty of times before. As we typically do at newer restaurants with good reviews, we ordered way too much so that we could try everything. Everything was amazing. Must tries are:
- BBQ tsukemen
- quaca-poke
- sticky rice tamale
- smoked duck breast
- hamachi collar
- chili cheese octopus fritters
On top of fantastic food the service was equally as impressive. Our server Armando killed it. The food runner Felix had just as much personality. We will be back probably within a week.
Perfect technique with deeply unusual ingredients. The smoked hamachi collar was amazing, with hints of traditional deli style smoked whitefish. Takoyaki smothered in chili was a really fun take on the dish, with little nuggets of brisket as a treat. Even the cucumber salad was really nicely done, with the dressing becoming a quick pickle as you eat towards the bottom of the bowl.
I have lived in Austin for eight years now and have been visiting sense the late 80"s. One thing I have seen slipping from this fantastic city is not so much the great food (although it has a bit from some of my old favorites) but the service in the food industry. I'm not sure if it has to do with the folks coming in from all over the states and bringing their bad server habits with them or what but it was great to have the great service.
Thank you! It is much noticed and welcomed.
About the food. I went by myself and sat at the bar. I had many delicious things on their menu. I saw what the guy next to me had and looked just as good! The only thing that I could wish was different was the spacing for the floor mounted stools at the bar. I'm a bit bigger than average and it would have been nice for a bit more elbow room but i'd sit there again with no worries.
I eat out many times a week and I'm glad I had discovered this place. It is small and decorated perfectly! I can't wait to take friends back with me. I work for a Co. that has a bar just around the corner. I wish Kemuri were open for lunch as I'm over on the East side often around that time of day.
Keep up exactly what you all are doing over there Kemuri! I can't wait to come back!

I lived in Okinawa for 6 years so seeing Orion on the menu really made me happy! Kemuri never disappoints and the service is A+. Highly recommend the sticky rice tamale, favorite dish on the menu!
Fast, friendly service! Exceptional food! I love small plate offerings, as it allows everyone to try something they may never have tried in traditional "dinner" menus. This place did not disappoint! If you want a TRUE Austin dining experience, get on over here!
The entire experience was phenomenal! I went to dinner with my girlfriend and we were warmly welcomed by multiple, equally enthusiastic people. Our server, Armando, was very knowledgeable about the food, drinks, and restaurant in general. We ordered everything Armando recommended and were impressed by it all. I work in the food and beverage industry and could not recommend Kemuri Tatsu-ya enough! It is a great, and much needed addition to Austin's restaurant scene. Thank you for being amazing! We will be back!
When I have someone in from out of town, I always take them to Kemuri Tatsu-ya. Last night was our best experience. Our server accidentally spilled three beers all over the table. He was apologetic. We thought it was a great adventure. And then they comped our meal. Great food and great service.
Oh I’m still swooning. So much to love on this brilliant menu, even kids (7,9) want to go back. Service was kind and attentive; atmosphere on point, price expected. Wait was brutal, so go early, but 100% worth it. Finally, an Austin restaurant exceeding its hype!
One of our favs! We always have a great meal here!! Great menu,
Impeccable service, delicious food...highly recommend!!
Wow! That was an “experience.” We heard about this place from some foodie friends and I felt like we stumbled upon something truly unique. The decor was fun and casual. Every dish was surprising and amazing. We especially loved the hot pocketz and the scallops. I don’t think you’d find dishes like these anywhere else in the world. A great mix of Japanese and Texas BBQ.
Not sure about the tamales at a Japanese BBQ house.Everything else-wonderful.From marinated jellyfish to excellent ramen-this place is the best!

The wait is long; BUT DONT LEAVE. The service is amazing! I really like the concept of the way the food is brought to your table (brought as it's ready by restraunt runners). More of a sharing type menu with a ton of variety and their Ramen is too notch. Again, the staff is so polite and genuine. UPDATE: After reading other reviews, I'd like to add we did too have a child/two month old in a stroller. Whether considerate or coincidence, we sat inside. The staff did ask us for a high chair, we declined. We sat in a booth and the stroller remained on the end of our table without a problem.
Always an amazing experience at Ramen Tatsuya. I hadn’t been here in a very long time, and I was satisfied with the whole experience. I came in at around 3:30 PM. There wasn’t many people. It was very chill, the music was very good.
I ordered them mi-so-hot, very delicious, the broth was thick, the Ramen was served hot. I don’t know why I decided to eat this on a hot day, but man was it bomb! I enjoyed it very much.
Only some cold weather could have made my experience better.
The Ramen was on point just the right amount of spice and flavor. I also love how much the broth is in the bowl so much I can take some home. My kids tried the food for the first time they liked the rice bowl and fried chicken.
This place has one of the best ramens in Austin with bustling vibes! Went there for dinner on a weekend and had to wait for a bit to order.
I ordered Nu Skool (vegan) with a corn bomb. The broth was super silky and soulful, pairing well with great toppings. They could however, have more options for vegan appetizers.
Don’t miss on their Burnt orange ice cream sandwich, it’s a bomb!!
This place is famous for a reason! The vibes are immaculate and the food is delicious aswell as HUGE.
I got the Mt. Fujiro (18$) and it was delicious! There was a bit too much so I wasn't able to finish it all, but they had to-go boxes next to a really cool looking water dispenser. The other ramen seems to be smaller and cheaper, around 13-16$ a portion.
The drink selection is also great, if not a bit pricey. I got a peach ramune and that was about 6$, pricey but I haven't seen that flavor in the states.
I also got a box of matcha pocky to snack on the go and that was around 3$.
I would HIGHLY recommend this spot.
The food is the star here, the way it should be. The wait for a table was short, under 10 minutes. They were very accommodating of my wife who was in a wheelchair ♿️. Some dasher or Uber eats dude in a white minivan with dealer plates and no tag was parked in the only handicap spot, I saw him inside but figured he has enough on his mind as a cog in the gig economy, but it still sucks. The moral is, even if you are only going to be there for a short time, someone with actual handicap needs could be on their way. My wife was so happy with the food. It is one of the few spots that has maintained its integrity and quality over the long haul. They have Meanwhile Secret Beach IPA on tap, although what they call a pint is not a pint, also a Japanese lager. I tried the vegan curry ramen and it was amazing. So good I forgot to take a picture of it.
Yum!
Our ramen came out so hot and so fresh! We loved it! I added a spicy bomb to my tonkatsu and it made it perfect!
Be sure to try the gyoza. The dipping sauce that comes with it is so flavorful and the perfect addition.
I wasn’t really a fan of the spicy edamame. I wish it was spicier and less tangy.
Fun place! The Ramen was better than most ramen I’ve had before.
I got the Ol’ Skool, which I loved - fantastic broth, good meat, great noodles, delicious egg.
My wife got the Sho-yu tongkotsu, which was ok. We agreed that it’s flavor was a little off, different than other ramen we’ve had. The broth wasn’t to die for, like the ol skool.
Overall, fun atmosphere and good food. Definitely will go back!
I know when my husband says, "This is so good," over 10 times while we're eating that we found a great place to eat! I am a sucker for unique places and foods, and this is one of the coolest restaurants I've been to. Waiting outside wasn't bad. They had mist going to keep the patio cool. Right when you walk in, you order drinks and your food and get a number to put on your table. It's self seating, on big communal tables with some smaller booths/tables and a bar along the sides. A server will bring out your food, and we were mostly left to ourselves after that. Price is good, food is amazing, atmosphere is neat... highly recommend Ramen Tatsu-Ya!
This is a very good ramen restaurant!! My husband and I both enjoyed a lot. The soup was very tasty and creamy. You can taste that they put effort to cook the base.
The noodles is like the thin ramen but not too hard and not too soft. We highly recommend this restaurant!! 😋😋
This place was so awesome. The reviews do this place right. The environment and food was amazing! Best Ramen I’ve ever had! I just got the OG for my first time and have no regrets!
