The Austin Diner isn't a "Bargain Gem" the $$ rating was spot on. I came in after the lunch rush and three tables were occupied. I had a choice of breakfast, lunch, or dinner entres and decided on breakfast. The short stack was not short by any means... Two large thick and fluffy flap jacks served with butter not margarine and 2.5 thin grilled ham slices.

All considered Arkies, the Waffle House, or Kerby Lane would be a better destination.

Good Diner. Legit feel. Good diner food. Publius had breakfast here, and everything on the plate was good. Eggs over medium, bacon, sausage, home fries and 2 pancakes. The atmosphere is retro, and there were a few hipsters here (not that there's anything wrong with that). But nothing felt artificial or put on. The staff was friendly. Some of these other reviews are a bit hit or miss, but on the day Publius visited, everything was in order. Food 19/20 Decor 21/20 Service 19/20.

The menu is really hard to read on here. Could someone post a new copy?

Get your greasy on. Take standard diner fare, add whole-grain, wheat, and Tex-Mex options, and you have Austin Diner. If you don't want a gourmet take on diner food, this is the place to go in north-central Austin.

Oysters & Catfish. There are 3 eateries within walking distance of my house, so I decided to skip Arby's and Thundercloud and gave the humble looking Austin Diner a try. I came here around 8:00 on a Friday night. The waitress was very friendly and attentive, and the inside of the restaurant was cozy and warm, having everything you'd expect to see in a diner. She recommended the Catfish, which was $8.99 with two sides, or the Catfish & Oyster Combo which was $9.29, so I went for the combo with fried eggplant w/marinara and mashed potatoes & gravy. The food arrived a few minutes later, with a generous amount of fried oysters, a catfish filet, and a good chunk of cornbread. The catfish was delicious and tender, and the oysters were similarly cooked and slightly crunchy. The mashed potatoes were great. I really liked the fried eggplant and marinara. I am glad I skipped Arby's for a change and tried something new. I'll probably be coming back to the Austin Diner some more in the near future, next time hopefully for breakfast.

The reason for this post, and possibly my new reason for living is the Chango, one of Austin Diner's dessert options. I realize that it's Thanksgiving and I should be talking about turkey and dressing and pie, but this Chango is breaking news worthy of in

The restaurant was clean, well lit, and well staffed. The decor was very reminiscent of and old style diner. Service was fast and friendly. The coffee was good; hot, fresh, and not overly strong. I had the egg platter; two scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and an English Muffin. The eggs were cooked perfectly and were light and fluffy with no runny parts. Hash browns were browned just right with no undercooked or burnt parts. The bacon was crispy but not hard and dried out. The English Muffin was toasted perfectly. This was one of the best comfort food breakfast I've had. My wife had the Migas plate. She said the Migas were closer to a true Mexican style Migas and we're very tasty. Her Texas style potatoes were cooked to tasty perfection; soft, hot, and flavorful. The dish also came with refried beans and they were delicious. They served two flour tortillas on the side. The tortillas were a bit on the small side but we're fresh and soft. All in all this is a great little jewel of a diner and I'll return for sure.

Great find. Was looking for a local breakfast eatery and despite that this was my third choice because the wait times at the priority spots were over an hour, it was a great selection. No wait here but don't let that fool you - you have to add this spot to your breaking the fast repertory. Leti was great and the environment was classic. Had the La Tejana Omelet and my wife had the Egg Platter. She said the Hash Browns were the best she's ever had... crispy in the outside but fluffy on the inside - perfect. I love the vintage kitchen appliances on the shelves above the windows. The tables are cool too with imagery under the lacquer.

A normal diner, but the food is good. I got the Jake's cake that had cottage cheese baked into it with ginger flavor. I also add banana as a topping. Chorimigas was delicious too! There’s free parking.

First time to this diner. The service was great and friendly. The food is homemade and is delicious and fresh. Be patient it will take time for them to cook it. If you want fast food, move on to another place. Prices are also good and even better when you pay in cash.

Loved this place. Looked it up and it didn't disappoint. My brother had the Mexican omelet and it was 🔥. I had the Jake's 🥞, and those were very deceiving (in a good way). Food was reasonably priced, service was solid (if you have 5 or more gratuity is included), and its got the old school diner feel. Loved the potatoes (home fries and hashbrowns), didn't care for the regular pancakes on our second trip, the breakfast tacos seemed a little plain but salsa was 🔥, and skillets were solid.

Love this place. It’s a diner, so don’t expect a chic polished ambiance. But it does diner atmosphere very well. The food is great, the prices are great, and the service is great. Try the wheat pancakes—they’re amazing!

A true Austin restaurant. This diner has changed locations on Burnett Rd. but it's the same for the most part. My husband had a business on Burnett rd in the 90's and he ate here often. His favorite on Thursdays was the chicken pablano casserole. It's a really good breakfast and lunch place with daily specials. The wait staff are very friendly. It's a diner menu with lots of choices.

Love coming here with my girlfriend—we’ve become something resembling regulars! 😂 Everything is always well-priced, hot, and very tasty! Family owned & operated, the service is very friendly & usually pretty prompt. Austin Diner is a great, truly underrated, no-frills breakfast/lunch spot in the 512!

The food was very delicious. I got the eggs Benedict and it was great. It came with potatoes and fruit. My son got scrambled eggs, pancake and sausage. It was the perfect amount of food for him. I would definitely eat here again.

My favorite is the Thursday salmon croquette special. My grandparents used to make them when I was a kid, so I always get excited when I see places have them. They are full of flavor and come with a variety of side options. I personally recommend their mashed potatoes (they are so fluffy like perfect homemade potatoes) and fried okra. Also comes with a roll or cornbread. Great hearty meal with always friendly staff in a very cute retro diner atmosphere. Definitely a gem in Austin.

I ordered the Brian's special and it was all made to perfection. The flavor of the hashbrown, was delicious. The way the bacon was cooked into the scrambled eggs was chef's kiss, with melted cheese on top... I would definitely come again and would highly recommend if you live or visiting Austin. 🫶❤️
