We are visiting from Colorado. We were told that Cooper's was very good so decided to give it a try. Glad we did cause the brisket and ribs were old school amazing. Haven't had BBQ like that in a long time. Pork ribs, beef ribs, and turkey were filled with flavor and not over powering. The coleslaw and potato salad were spot on. This on a Sunday with football and a cold one was the BEST! We will be coming back for more.
Had a pretty good time here. I got to town pretty late and found that this place was still open. It's a different kind of feel from your everyday restaurants. You don't go in and sit down to order from a menu, they are constantly cooking and you go up and pick what you want and how much right from the back. It's the same for the sides which they have several, including some dessert options. Then after you pay for your food you find a place to sit. It's very communal, and I found myself sitting at a table surrounded by a large group of people who were in town for a conference. We had a great conversation and enjoyed each other's company. I didn't expect this kind of experience from a restaurant but I think there should be more places like it. If you get the chance, I recommend you check this spot out.
I hadn't been to a BBQ restaurant that sells by the pound. I liked being able to pick out what I wanted to try and being able to specify portion size. My meal price ended up being higher than I was comfortable with ($49 for meat and two sides and a pickle).
The best food was the pecan pie.
Pork ribs were good.
I'm not a fan of the house BBQ sauce or the pickle 🥒.
Beef rib was my least favorite - watery and no flavor.
Perfectly cooked BBQ. The beef ribs were very tender, and you could really taste the rub on the bark. Same thing with the brisket, it was juicy and had a great flavor. Nice atmosphere with plenty of tvs and a bar downstairs and upstairs. Located downtown and close to a lot of hotels and other restaurants.
First time in downtown, after stroling around for like 30 minutes thinking about which restaurant to go, then cooper is coming into my view and yeap.. i fell in love with the atmosphere. And i love the sirloin and ribeye steak.. they are the best 😘😘😘😘
This is in downtown Austin TX and the food is AWESOME!! They have all the meat you could possibly want, the corn bread is perfection and all the sides are just fantastic. I could barely walk when we left this place!!! Definitely a great place for lunch or dinner if you are in the area!!
for me, barbecue is all about the sauce. This place doesn’t use a traditional thicker barbecue sauce. They use a smooth and thin vinaigrette. It has a barbecue flavor, but it just doesn’t feel like you’re eating barbecue. That being said everything else was literally perfect and one of the nicest places I’ve been to hospitality was on par with some of the best restaurants out here not to mention the options they had for sides were pretty good. The pinto beans that are free are actually really good. They also offer free bread, free pickles, and a few other free things.
They have the meats. So, I'm going to preface the review by saying I'm from the Carolinas and it may be easy to impress me with TX BBQ. But the brisket here is excellent. The ribs were OK. The short rib looked amazing but I didn't see it when I was ordering meat. So I didn't get a chance to experience it. Bar staff is friendly. The drinks are reasonable, at least compared to where I'm from. I'm here in Austin for 5 days and I'm definitely going back.

Yeahhh meat! Nice concept, stand in line, order the meat you want and pay per ounce. Choose sides and a drink. Add beans and jalapeno to taste. I had brisket ***** and one piece of beef rib ***. Beef rib was very fatty, not so nice.
The decor is basic, barn style. Atmosphere nice, people eating together. Spent close to 50USD. Could not finish all.
Hopped off my plane from Nashville and headed straight to Cooper's! They said they are known for their brisket and that didn't disappoint. Great texture, moisture and bark. This is the main event.
I also purchased jalapeno cheddar sausage and green beans. These were not noteworthy and left me wishing I had doubled down on the brisket.
Meals are served with complimentary white bread, bbq sauce, pinto beans and jalapeno peppers which I loved.
Gave 4 out of 5 stars to Atmosphere due to the loud pop music they played. Would have loved if they had served up some local fare (red dirt maybe?).
We visited Coopers on a food tour while visiting Austin, first time having real Texas Brisket. Non pretentious, smoky flavorful and tender cuts of turkey, chicken pork and beef. The building was 20 percent of the experience with wax paper serving as your plate. Choose your cut: cost is listed in chalk on the wall, customary accompaniments are positioned along the cafeteria style line procession, Cole slaw, potato salad, green beans and Mac n cheese. There was live music played upstairs, so you can choose your level of stim.
Great location, easy to find! Fast and friendly service, I was surprised how many things are included, didn't realize it until we sat down (soft drinks, sliced pickles, jalapenos, BBQ sauce, bread.... wow!). This location is downtown! Lots of food options from beef, pork and chicken! Great unique taste, I will come back! BTW, pricing was per lb, boy was the pit guy accurate, look at the pricing labels!!
First, I want to say that I very rarely give 5 stars, but this place actually deserves every one of them.
This place is located right in the heart of Austin, TX, on Capital Street. If you have never been, you must go if you're looking for that real texas bbq.
I am a brisket man, so you know I had to try their brisket. They have a slew of other meats, turkey, sausages, beef ribs, and brisket, of course. So, I ordered the brisket and the beef ribs with their jalapeño mac and cheese with no bbq sauce. I love it when the bbq doesn't need sauce.
The meat was tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The rib literally fell off the bone. The Mac and cheese were creamy, and the beans, which they serve complimentary, were excellent. Everything was flavorful, and Harty.
They also have pickles, onions, and bread. They do have pecan pie, which I plan to try on my next visit there. Overall, great experience, great food and service. If you are looking for that authentic Texas bbq, this is the place.
Let's eat!
Great bbq! Very easy to over order/eat. Get the brisket and the Cole slaw, although all the meats and sides are outstanding. Don't waste your time with the whole pickle, the pickle chips are free and very good. Try the sweet tea and cornbread to really round out the meal.
The brisket was good but the Mac n cheese was too salty to enjoy as a side. My friend got the potato salad and that was good so I recommend that instead.
One of the best smoked BBQ places I've been to, the atmosphere is really good. The variety of roasted meats is very diverse and serves all day long. It's not that expensive compared to other BBQ's, but because it's in the center, it has an additional local cost. The type of restaurant is Self Service. It's worth going there.
Asked for beef ribs they gave me a 2 for 1. Slowed cooked. One of the best I ever had. And being from Argentina we know a bit about our barbecues/asados. Highly recommendable. The brisket was also good.
