Reviews Bluewater Avalon

Recently I took a group of 5 people to Catalina Island for the day. There are many places to choose from on the island to eat, but we had a taste for seafood and Bluewater looked like the best place, in the area we were in. In short it was a great experience. Food was very good, atmosphere was excellent and the service was good for the time of the day (very busy when we were there, so it was slow). You are right on harbor, fresh breeze and air hitting you in the face while you enjoy your meal. Our bill was $600, ordered apps, drinks and the fresh catch of the day, so not overly pricey given what we ordered. I ordered the lobster roll and it was better than the one I reviewed in Maine this past June!

Mostly deducted 1 star due to slower than expected service. The food was pretty good, fish tacos were good (average but not the best I’ve had). Their swordfish was delicious and their scallops were fresh and very uniquely dressed. A little cramped seating but by the water and pretty on a beautiful day. Worth a visit !

First the service was great. Staff is friendly and very helpful with items on the menu. For starters, I wish they had better mixed drinks options so I had to opt to a Riesling however I also have expectations on how sweet it would be. It just didn't do it for me. We had the crab cakes which I forgot to take a picture. You get two crab cakes and it was good. We also got the crab artichoke dip. That was good. Now main dishes, my oldest son ordered the fisherman platter and he ranked it 8 out of ten. My youngest son ordered the steak and lobster and he was disappointed. The lobster wasn't what he was hoping for. He said the lobster was a 6 out of ten but the steak was delicious. My husband ordered two dishes but shared with each other. I ordered the walnut crusted halibut and OMG. It was YUMMY! My husband ordered the filet mignon and I was disappointed. It was very chewy. I feel it should melt in your mouth. This steak wasn't tender. The scallop potatoes was really good and my son had the clam chowder and said it was good.

lovely beach front restaurant. A surefire tourist spot with tourist prices. Good service and food. The smell of creosote is a bit much. But fantastic view.

Had a wonderful anniversary dinner right by the water. Not only were the views beautiful but the food and service were also amazing. We had the crab legs, which were very well served along with potatoes and asparagus. The shrimp and scallop pesto pasta. So yummy!! Service was great, our waitress went over the menu and wine list with us. Such a perfect dinner. Highly recommend.

The waiter suggested the clam chowder and....she was right - it was really good! A top ten chowder from all our travels. We agreed it was the best thing we ordered. The fish and chips was good, the coleslaw perfect consistency and no eye rolling when asking for more tartar. My wife thought the fries were perfect - crispy on the outside and still soft on the inside. The lobster roll wasn't the best of all time (comparing to wharf in SF and Pikes Place, etc. which is a super high bar), but still very satisfying and probably the best on the island. Don't be afraid of it if you like lobster rolls, it's good. We ordered the buffalo milk jug, which was an interesting idea but pretty watered down (couldn't taste or feel any alcohol in there), kinda just tasted like milk blended with ice and wasn't worth it. Especially since it actually doesn't have any REAL buffalo milk so it's not very unique. That said, dinner next to the ocean at sunset (and covid safe!) for 3 people was very reasonably priced compared to similar mainland restaurants in Long Beach and our entrees came out very fast.

I’m only giving it 4 stars because they didn’t have lobster rolls even though it was mentioned on their online menu, which is why I came here. Even though they did not have the lobster rolls their oysters were AMAZING, they are the largest I have ever seen and they were very fresh. I would definitely recommend this place for their oysters! The service was great too so I have no complaints about that and the drinks were also delicious!

We had our 6-month anniversary dinner here and it was delicious! My husband loved the swordfish, and my filet was excellent. The highlight for me was trying the buffalo milk cocktail, a Catalina specialty, and our table outside, right on the water.

Lots of water side seating! Open air, large bar area and outside dining. We only stopped in for drinks, but the crew was friendly and accommodating. The wine selections was a bit more expansive than other locations. Sitting in for an afternoon with friends would be perfect.

We randomly came into Bluewater grill because it's centrally located and right on the water!! They had plenty of indoor, outdoor, patio, and bar seating available. We ordered the Baked Crab & Artichoke Dip Blend of jack and cream cheese, green chiles, pickled jalapeño topped with Romano with tortilla chips and it was super filling and creamy! We throughly enjoyed it, I am not a huge fan of crab but this was really good. We had a couple different servers so I'm not sure how their system works, but we were definitely taken care of! We came in the middle of the day so maybe that's why they were a little slower on the inside, but outside facing the ocean was pretty filled up! Either way we could still see the ocean and was in ac which was much needed! The bathrooms were nice, located outside on the deck. People who come in with swim suits, towels, and no shoes are asked to change before getting sat. So if you are full beach gear this is not the spot for you!

The full rack rib is good, the halibut is tasty. The paella, the fried calamari and the cioppino is ok. Btw, the water cost 1.25 dollars here.

Ambiance! Great staff!  From the hostesses to the bartender to our waiter,  we were charmed and delighted.  And while the brick chicken was phenomenal the Halibut was EVERYTHING...Light, delicate, flaky, buttery soft...OMG, I AM SCREAMING ABOUT THE FRESH HALIBUT! I will come here for dinner every night while in Catalina!  You should too!

Party of 4 - not too long to wait for a table. 15 minutes est, we walked around the plaza with nearby shops, eateries, and arcade. Plenty of things to do with the family and enjoy walking along the wharf and harbor area.
