Mother's Kitchen is a favorite of my older sister and I had the pleasure of experiencing their delicious sandwiches on two separate occasions this week.

On my first visit we ordered the Quincy, a sandwich layered with fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato, greens, olives and vinaigrette on focaccia. The sandwich was light, refreshing and delicious. This rated 4-4.5.

We also ordered a homemade Lemonade. They advised that they make it tart, but noted that they have a pitcher of simple syrup in the refrigerator so that you can sweeten to taste. They were right, it was quite tart and I poured an ounce (or more) of simple syrup into it before the pucker face went away. Very refreshing and enjoyable, this rated 3.5-4.

On the next occasion we enjoyed the Summer Kitchen, stuffed with smoked turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato and creamy dill sauce on sourdough. This was lovely and rated a 4.

We also ordered a Cold Kitchen - smoked turkey, bacon, cranberry sauce, stuffing, lettuce and mayonnaise on sourdough. This one was met with mixed reviews. My niece loved this sandwich, singling out the stuffing and cranberry sauce (more like a chutney) as highlights. My other sister disliked the sandwich for the same reasons, citing the stuffing flavor was too strong (sage?) and the cranberry sauce was too wet. Personally, I was less a fan of this sandwich compared to the Summer Kitchen, but it was still very good. This rated a 3.5-4.

I highly recommend Mother's Kitchen for a wonderful homemade sandwich or salad.

Mother's Kitchen gets VERY busy when the weather is nice and everyone is looking to pack a picnic for the beach, but don't despair as you can call ahead to place your order for pickup.

Tip - if you are in a hurry, the pre-packaged Tabouleh Salad gets high marks.

My husband and I got married on 7/15 on MDI and were looking for a place to cater lunch for our large wedding party the morning of our wedding. Everyone we mentioned this to (including competitors of Mother's Kitchen!) said that Mother's was THE best sandwich shop on the island. Miraculously, on two days notice, Tasha and her team agreed to make 32 sandwiches and two large salads for us! The ordering process was super fast and easy, and Tasha reassured us that she would contact us on Facebook (super responsive) if anything came up. The day of, our bridesmaids and groomsmen couldn't stop talking about how incredible the sandwiches were. Anything that hadn't been eaten at lunchtime was gobbled up a few hours later at the after party. We are extremely grateful that several locals tipped us off on Mother's Kitchen and could not recommend it more strongly!!! Thank you, Tasha!!! - Paula and Chris

I was a little nervous at first that we had found an old woman in a dirty kitchen...and then we stepped inside. The ambiance is so comfortable and laid back and the food (we had breakfast sandwiches, blueberry scones, and coffee) was so fresh and delicious. You can see into the entire (very clean) kitchen and watch them make your food. Definitely worth stopping in, you won't regret it!

The BEST! Very fresh ingredients, tons of coffee options & vegan options. Pickup is very easily accessible as well, we have been picking up a sandwich and then packing it on our hikes. I could eat here every day :)

Love love love this place! I’m a local, and finally visited after many years. Appreciate the vegan options, although only one was available on my visit (tip: go early - they sell out.) I ordered the Empress as a salad since I’m gluten free and the GF bread is not vegan. Super yummy. Deleted with smiles, eco-conscious packaging, and a beautiful setting for an outdoor lunch. Probably a good thing they don’t have punch cards, or some other local perk option, because I’d be coming here too often :P

Decided to stop here after reading several great reviews. Decided to go with the Bacon, Egg and dill cheese on Rye with a Maple Iced Coffee. It was incredible! Everything was cooked to perfection. The bacon was delicious! If you like Dill, you have to try the Dill Cheese. The maple in the coffee was subtle and added the right about of sweetness. Price was reasonable and the options were plentiful. I’d recommend stopping here for breakfast before exploring the rest of Maine!

These Mainers know how to make food. Really fresh ingredients, quality bread, good coffee....and Mother's Kitchen does it all at a reasonable price. Sitting outside on a nice October morning (I don't think there's indoor seating) it's a great way to start your exploration of Bar Harbor and Acadia NP. But a sandwich to go and you're all set for the day.

If I lived here, I would come here every single day. We drove past this coffee shop so many times and when we finally stopped by to check it out, we were so surprised! It really is the best coffee on the island. From decadent maple oat nitro to black cold brew and flash iced coffee, everything was brewed to perfection! The different food options available are worth noting too! You can tell that they take care in what they make and how they make it. The people that work here are incredibly nice and make the experience even better. Thank you Mothers Kitchen for being amazing! Our only regret is not stopping by sooner!

We’ve been vacationing at Acadia for several years and have tried a lot of breakfast spots… this is the best! Legit baguette-like rolls and there is a choice to add brie! Thank you for the lovely food, charming outside seating, dog parade, and corn hole.

My only negative review is that I wish there was another MK in bar harbor!! All the vegan pastries and sandwiches are amazing, I haven’t even tried them all so I know I’ll be back. The price is very reasonable for bar harbor, if not, more affordable than sandwiches and coffees in downtown. The ingredients are fresh and people are nice. I have been obsessed with the maple oat lattes. THANK YOU for including vegan options in your menu!! And thank you to the sweet wonderful human who decorated my takeout bag with my name and flowers 🥰 made my day

Our car broke down in their parking lot and while I was off dealing with a new rental the owner was overly generous in looking after my wife and infant not only during business hours but coming back to check on them even after the business was closed. I will forever be grateful. We’ve been back since for breakfast and coffee and we’re equally as impressed. Do not hesitate to go.

Really cool coffee/food stop on the way in/out of Bar Harbor. Stumbled upon the stop because of its very large yellow tent and the small flower garden. The staff was very friendly, and they will bring over whatever food you ordered in the front. The latte tasted smooth and nitro was foamy. Definitely a very cool place to stop over on a long drive to Maine.

Very delicious cinnamon vanilla latte, and delightful bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. Order ahead or it the window and wait outside for it to be ready. There is covered picnic tables, open air picnic tables, and benched all near their flower gardens. Some people were picnicing on a blanket as well. This was a random find as I drove away from Acadia NP in Maine.

As a local, I go here at least once a week! Actually, I plan to get my usual again today… The service is wonderful, the ingredients are the freshest, and the whole experience is top-notch. I wish they would be open during the winter, because even though I’m terrible at driving in the snow, I would come all the way from Southwest Harbor in a blizzard for their food! Keep it up, guys!!

This is a small, out of the way place near Acadia National Park. It's a walk-up, eat outside place. Wonderful coffee, macaroons. Lots of locals get their morning Jolt here. Mother's Kitchen is close to Trenton, Maine.

We visited Mother's Kitchen on vacation through coastal Maine on our way into Bar Harbor and then again on our way back out because it was just so good. Super friendly folks, great ingredients, cozy bar, and good iced coffee too. The Grass Valley sandwich, a standout, is delicious and plant-based - my partner and I tried to make it ourselves this week. Tasty, but not as good as theirs!

The build your own breakfast sandwich was delicious. It seems to popular with the locals and there is plenty of outdoor space for the pups to play. 4 stars for atmosphere since there was not a bathroom.

Another great spot if you are in the area to visit. They are kind friendly and outgoing. The food is amazing too. Please try the veggie sandwich or turkey club you will not be sorry you did. It is small but busy and then you can enjoy the food ad much as the view.
