I love this place - Taiwanese pork burger, spiced pork over rice, Tainan shrimp roll, squid pottage, beef wraps... so good

It's my happy place. Lunch time is good because it's less busy... Dinner can be crowded...however... They take reservations and, to me, is worth The wait. The food is exceptional...my favorite restaurant!! I want them to adopt me. They now know me by name.

Not overly tempting from the outside, located in an older strip mall, it's almost like someone is trying to keep Facing East a secret. And I wouldn't blame them if they were as I read stories of long waits. Fortunately Marie and I tend to eat at unfashionable hours (as in, when we're hungry) a habit which has saved us many hours of lining up. We started with the Taiwanese Pork Burger. It was very tasty with tender pork on a steamed bao. A pleasant mix with greens and finished with a surprising mix of ground peanuts and sugar. Very nice! Next was the Five Spice Beef Roll. We loved the refreshing greens and sweet sauce. Not too adventurous but enjoyable. Next, we stepped off the beaten path (for us) and tried Sweet Potato Flour Pancake with Yearling Oyster, Egg and Veggies. This was an amazing dish, slightly translucent like sweet potato noodles but crispy on the bottom from some decent wok heat. The oysters were small and subtle and the greens and eggs all made for an omelette of sorts. I would order this again! Not 100% sure on the sauce but I believe it was sweet chilli. Marie needed something to go with her rice (not pictured as its just rice) and Milkfish was the thing. This was perfectly cooked although a little salt wouldn't have been amiss. It was served with pickled cucumber and ginger and a bit of lemon which brightened the main attraction. Finally, there were Sesame Noodles. To be honest all we could do was give these a taste and ask for them to be packed up to go. This was a generous serving with some nicely al dente noodles and a rich sauce. I don't usually forget to take a picture of the interior of the restaurant but think, sleek and dark. Service was gracious, with different folks checking in on us. We definitely would return.

One of our last restaurants to try during our Seattle road trip was Facing East, which is a popular Taiwanese restaurant located in a small mini mall in Bellevue… and by “popular” I mean expect for a wait to get in here. We showed up around the dinner hour on a Saturday and waited about 45 minutes to get in.

About two days back , Facing East was one of the restaurants listed on "Peach'd" and I was quick to order myself the veg offering because
1. it looked healthy
2. The ratings on yelp seemed great
3. I forgot my lunch at home.
So the veg meal was tofu , sticky rice with mushrooms, good portion of broccoli and pickled cucumbers.
I have never had such soft tofu. Is tofu supposed to be this soft and melt in your mouth ? If it is , I sure have been eating crap all my life. The sauce was perfection . I mean I think the best Chinese I have ver had in the Seattle area. I like that the broccoli was not sautéed and was just lightly steamed. The mushrooms which were mixed with the rice were also just lightly cooked but this combo worked out great. Priced at $11.10 it was a great deal and I didn't feel like I was eating trashy takeout food. The sauce was no where close to sweet so that was a big relief.
I have just had one meal from here but I think it's safe to say that they have not americanized their food to cater to the majority of the demographic but have kept it authentic. I am definitely trying out their food soon but this time at the restaurant.

Love this place! Great representation of Taiwanese food. I have tried basically everything on their menu and this restaurant is still my favorite Taiwanese restaurant in Bellevue. You have to get their minced pork/spiced pork over rice, and their Bao (Taiwanese burger).
The wait could be long though! so come at a good time.

Awesome food! I've been here 3 or 4 times and it has yet to disappoint us. Just be prepared for long waits as it's always busy. If you want an alternative to the Same old food at Din Tai Fung give this place a try

Good authentic Taiwanese food all round. Wait time reasonable given how busy they are. Service fast with God arriving in a reasonable time. For the size of the restaurant, it is a bit odds that they equipped the bathroom to be single occupancy often with people lining up by the bathrooms.

It is advisable to make a reservation for dinner, as there is always a line during meal time. We ordered a variety of dishes, and also reminded them to cut back on salt. Overall, all the dishes were great, including the dessert. Try the pork bun, pork rice and fried chicken rice, or pork chop rice if you just want something simpler.

So something that was crystal clear before travelling to US was to try some new cuisine whenever I get a chance. So the first day in foreign land and I was searching places to eat. Came across this awesome place which had really high rating on zomato. Thanks to a friend of mine that I had company for this. So visited this place to enjoy some sumptuous dinner. Really loved the bacon wrapped prawns and also the beef based main course that I took. I somehow forgot the name of the dish, but it was delicious. A definite go-to place if you are visiting Bellevue.

Great food! It takes a while to get in, because it is just so busy, but it is well worth the wait, because the food is authentic. This place is famous for it's Chinese style hamburgers, but we didn't try that. Yet.

I got the Taiwanese Fried BBQ and a Pig Ear Salad. I had no idea what to expect, as I've never had Taiwanese food before, and now I've been ruined. This food is amazing, the service is perfect, and the establishment is well kept. Definitely worth doing through.

Came here for the pork belly baos and boy, did they go beyond my expectations ! As an avid vancouver dine outer, I would consider the quality of the local taiwanese / chinese food scene to be quite rich, and therefore, didn't expect too much from Facing East. Nonetheless, we've found the gem of Bellevue ! The pork belly bao was definitely my favorite of the meal, though it would've been a tad better with an additional drizzle of their specialty sauce. I also got to try a few of their other dishes including the braised beef noodle soup, the green onion infused noodles, the spiced pork over rice, and a trio of their marinated appetizers. Overall, the food here is quite authentically Taiwanese and is definitely a place I'll be returning to (especially for the baos).

Derricious?!: Cheap & authentic Taiwanese dishes in the greater Seattle area, probably one of the best in the Pacific Northwest.

Facing East is a Taiwanese specialty restaurant located in downtown Bellevue.
Its menu focuses on authentic Taiwanese dishes, and having been to Taiwan myself, these dishes are very authentic and delicious.

The restaurant has simple decor and quite packed in a strip mall, but people who go there go for the food, and it’s worth it.
Dishes are packed with Taiwanese sauces and flavor, and portions are generous, and good value. There are many options in the menu. Also get the Taiwanese bubble tea - it is so strong and awakens your palettes!

The Bellevue area is growing with delicious & authentic Asian restaurants - I hope this trend continues.

Service was also pretty good for Asian restaurant standards - always quick to refill water & putting empty/finished plates away.

I went to Facing East for 2 items only — Taiwanese pork bun and fruity green tea. The Taiwanese pork bun, or Gua Bao 割包, was an extremely additive snack. Gua Bao had a soft sweet bun with soy sauce flavored stew pork belly in the center, accented with fresh cilantro, Chinese pickled vegetables and sweet ground sweetened peanuts.

The menu had a pretty large assortment of Chinese/Taiwanese dishes. So for my order, I recon'd the other patrons' food. Everyone seemed to be eating the Pork Burger (not really a burger, it's braised fatty pork in a bao) so I had to pick up one of them as an appetizer. I also ordered the Noodle with braised beef and a to go order of the Homestyle Egg Noodles.

I was super excited for the pork burger since everyone was eating it...it has to be good right? Correct! It was amazing. When you take your first bite you will get the peanut sauce right away. The braised pork will then shine through along with the cilantro. The bao/bun was also very soft, obviously fresh. For $3.70 it was a steal.

Hit the eastside for that Facing East Taiwanese game changer. We all know the pork belly bun (aka Pork burger) game is hot, though no one does it better in the area like Facing East. Who doesn’t love the slow succulent cooked pork, sweet peanut topping, pickled mustard greens and cilantro? I really don’t eat any other pork buns in Seattle cause the Facing East ones just kills it. If you don’t believe me, go peep all the Yelp photos.

Tasty Taiwanese food and surprisingly good service!. As a Taiwanese living in Vancouver, we decided to try out Facing East in Bellevue for dinner last week. We initially did not have high expectations for the restaurant as there is great Taiwanese food in Vancouver. When we got there, there was a huge line up of people waiting to get seats as the restaurant was full around 7pm. We waited 30 min to get seats and to my surprise, the service was swift and friendly. We got water refilled and the food came promptly. The food was also pretty authentic too. The highlight of our dinner was definitely the Taiwanese braised pork hamburger. Would definitely return if dropping by Bellevue downtown!

Top five Chinese (Tawainese) food in greater Seattle area. Always a great time. Must try if you haven't been. Tawainese burger, tofu and 1000 year old egg dish, spicy chicken, beef noodle soup, are the favorites.

Tofu beats Lamb. I can't believe I liked the Egg Tofu with Veggies and Pork over the Spiced Lamb, but the tofu was fluffy, delicious and fun to eat with 'sticks.

I regret not having time for dessert; there is much to explore. I would like to return a few more times to taste more.

Service was quick, efficient and friendly, too.

Green beans, spiced pork stew over rice, and shaved ice with strawberries were tasty. Fried rice, vermicelli were bland. Short ribs with black pepper sauce were fatty. Service very good. Sat our party of 8 quickly.

Yum!. "Love this place!! Get the pork burger!
Also, if you are adventurous you can get the waiter to translate some of the chinese only menu items.

Oh, the chinese okra clam soup is rocking too. And the beef noodles dish...

Man, I am hungry now. Maybe I need to drive to Bellevue for lunch!"

Not like the real thing, but good. Our favorite dish of 5 was the snack, five-spice fried chicken with basil puree, which is sold at street stalls in Taiwan. The Taiwanese burger and the spiced pork stew over rice was pretty good as well. We were not fans of the Tainan shrimp roll because of its inauthenticity and the blanced horfun noodle w/ veggies and shallot infused oil for lack fo tasty and use of way too much oil.

Came here on a Thursday night and there was no wait for a party of four! Food: We got a good mix of stuff in the menu such as the wide noodle dish, the egg battered winter melon, the tofu egg dish, the string beans, and oyster mushroom. My personal favorite was the tofu egg since it was super fluffy and had a good amount of veggies in it too! The mushroom also had a nice leathery texture which was great. Service: Food was brought out super quickly and we were checked in on decently often! Ambiance: Classic Asian restaurant but had more of a dimly lit vibe and was very elegant inside. Overall enjoyed the experience and very good authentic Asian food that doesn’t leave you feeling too oily.
