Extremely rude owner. I was there last night to see my friend perform. I went to bathroom and when I returned my to go food was gone. The owner claimed one of the band members took my food, but his food was clearly marked (see attached photo).. I’ve never been in an establishment where I had to bring my food to bathroom to prevent thief especially in a town like BELMONT. I guess there is thief everywhere these days. By the way, they have all these security cameras to give the appearance it is a safe environment…NOT!!!!

Never even realize this bar ever existed my cousin took me there because he said it was very alive with a lot of people they had a humongous selection of whiskey which was really cool they have a kitchen with food unfortunately we ate beforehand but I saw other people order food didn't look bad there's a bar outside and inside karaoke I guess on some days they have a stage a good mix of people parking is a little difficult but it's right next to the train station so you can just take the train there if you would like didn't stay very long just had a few beers and left and I had my first real whiskey sour with egg whites most bars I go to when I ask for a whiskey sour they always tell me they don't have egg whites and I never knew what that meant but now that I've had the real whiskey sour it was amazing don't want that cheap version no more all the bartenders are extremely friendly and very knowledgeable of the whiskey they were selling definitely recommend checking this place out thank you for taking the time to read my review 😎
Went by myself and had a very horrible time experience racism even though the cooks were Latino and the bartenders were Latino the drunks sitting at the bar thought it was funny to make racial slurs towards me I will never go back to this place ever again don't recommend it to anybody else
I thought my experience was one of a kind but after going down the comments and looking this bar is definitely racist people if you're colored and not whitewash I don't recommend coming here because if they don't think you're white enough you can't come here so many comments of people being turned away because the color of their skin Belmont is a racist town don't get me wrong not everybody but this place is definitely owned by racist people and the minorities at work here shame on you for agreeing with these racist owners please don't bring your business here ever go somewhere else not worth the time or effort and most their food is frozen or pre-made not worth it

Yeah the bar owner can be a douche. Surprised he hasn’t gotten any lawsuits or dealt with any compared to people that work in managing property because the guy is power tripping like every other bar owner I’ve ever known.

This was my first outing anywhere since this pandemic started. It was a good choice. St. James Gate is a bit rustic yet very comfortable place in Belmont CA. It's a basic bar food kind of place with a couple of good exception.
Do yourself a favor, start with 14 Bacon and Jalapeño wrapped tater tots. They are great little crispy nuggets of bacon goodness. We started with 7 and that was not enough.
Any of the burgers are a solid choice and are made fresh to order. I had the Swiss and Mushroom burger (should have added bacon). I was surprised by the fresh quality of the mushrooms on my burger. Next time I am going to try the Gate Ruben.
Overall, it's a good time with good drinks and fast service.

We came back for more Bacon wrapped Jalapeño Tater-tots. They are brilliant. We got the large order this time.
This time I got the Gate Ruben on Sourdough bread. It was a good portion with a good balance of meat, melted Swiss and sauerkraut. Also ordered was a French Dip and a Chicken sandwich.
The wait staff was attentive and fast. Appetizer and drinks were on point as well. We are looking forward to our next drive up from Santa Clara.

What an awesome place to hang.. grab a cold beer..eat some great food..listen to HI NRG rock out...and have good conversation with the bartender Leon, Phil at the door, and the owner Doug! The shrimp tacos we're HUGE and absolutely dynamite! Music inside after they finish on the patio..food until 11.. and a great front porch to chill and have conversation.

This is one of the local spots I recommend to the 40 - 55+ crowd, but on the weekends there’s usually more of the 21 - 35 age group, lots of pretty girls. The cover bands are a lot of fun, and the kareoke nights with the DJ, Sam on Wednesday’s & Thursday’s are sometimes more fun than the weekend cover bands. Speaking of the cover bands, the ones that play the top 40 hits from the 70’s - 90’s tend to bring the House down. But, The pub grub, and beer selection is also decent.

This place is very nice and big! ...the seats in the patio are very cozy, love the fire Pits! ...excellent choice to go for a drink or dance. The service and the food is very good too. We live in San Jose and we don’t care about the distance if you are getting a place like this one. The owner have a beautiful, must see, HUGE dog.

Great place to hang out with friends- good food & excellent bar. It has a pool table, an outside bar with outdoor seating and heat lamps. There is always something going on every night from Karaoke to live music or trivia night. All around great place!

A bit noisy staff is good but Leon is the bomb head bar tender manager he keeps the place together, food ok onion rings good burgers a bit on the. Dry side but outside sitting fun most of the bands are good all in all try it out

This place sucked the band on there website said they started st 9:00 and didn’t start until 10:00 there was a lot of shady people didn’t feel safe and will never return to that place. The service was horrible my friend asked for a cup of coffee, and she never received it then the server made up excuses that the coffee maker wasn’t working. This place was a joke.

Great place for correctly poured Guinness! Right temperature, all age groups are represented, very good live music. Phil, the doorman is top notch. Bar tenders are fantastic!

This place is the best. Bartenders are quick and the drinks are strong/cheap. Plus the bouncers are hilarious (Im talking about you Fernando). They have live music that will keep you on your feet. And they even have food for your drunk munchies. One of the bouncers even made sure I got home safe, shout out to Rob, you’re my hero � I hope the owners know what awesome staff they have. Definitely my new stomping grounds. Thanks guys!!! �
