We drove about 30 minutes to try Bette's. Even with the wait to get a table, Bette's did not disappoint! We tried their seasonal pancake soufflé. There is nothing like it in the SF Bay Area and worth the extra time it takes to make them.
There aren't very many places you can order scrapple in the Bay Area and Bette's scrapple is not your traditional scrapple - it's 100 times better. Crispy in the outside and packed full of flavor.
Besides a great breakfast, our server was fabulous too. She was hoping the whole time, but never missed a beat at our table.
Good food, good service in good neighborhood for a little window shopping afterwards. If I were you, I'd make it a point to go!
Pros- The food is amazing, the staff is even better. I consider myself a breakfast connoisseur, and this is one of my favorite spots! The Maryland is our favorite.
Cons- there is usually a wait, but I can’t really list this as a con. They’re popular, so it comes with the territory. Plus, it’s located in the middle of a nice area with lots of shoppes to explore while you wait.
My one real complaint: The bathroom situation is horrible. One single bathroom for a breakfast place? C’mon now.. coffee mixed with breakfast food mid-morning? That’s a recipe for disaster. You need more bathroom real estate, Bette’s!

Perfection on a plate. Everything I ordered came out it was exactly as I wanted. Two pancakes. Beautifully cooked . Not runny in the middle like some places serve.
Bacon I ordered not too crispy. It came, not too crispy!
I order the eggs sunny side up. And lo and behold, they were sunny side up. The fruit plate as usual was gorgeous. Obviously trained by a professional chef, the fruit was fanned and was in season and was fresh.
Everything was that was supposed to be served hot actually was served hot.
The day before I went to a different breakfast restaurant to try and order the same thing. However, in that place I had ordered one pancake. Three pancakes came. I ordered the bacon not crispy. It came both crispy and cold. I ordered the eggs sunny side up, they too were cold. When I returned the food and got a re-fire, still nothing was done right. I received the eggs that were burned around the outside and underneath.
The bacon they sent back was still cold.
The pancakes they sent second time around or uncooked in the middle and runny. Needless to say I didn’t eat anything. I was vastly disappointed in that I do not often order pancakes. Maybe once every three years. That’s why I went to Bette’s. I knew they would do things right!
Everyone “professional “ who thinks they know how to cook breakfast else should go to Betty’s learn how to cook and then decide to open up their own breakfast spot.

I am a seasoned cook and have never had a better breakfast, even at the Ritz. They still are committed to excellence in preparation & thoughtful service. I've been going to Bette's for 30+ years and have never had a bad breakfast or lunch. The food is delicious and the place is just fun to visit!
Bette's Oceanview Diner is a welcoming place where people congregate for nutritious food. Everything on the menu is good, and I particularly like their Souffle Pancakes which come in several flavors. I would like to eventually try them all!
This place is a prerequisite for breakfast anytime we travel to Berkley. The home fried potatoes are the best and served with a dallop of fresh sour cream. Omelets are amazing too. Pancakes and waffles are also off the hook delicious! The coffee was kind of weak for my taste but there's a Peets Coffee right across the street.

Flew into Berkeley for a few days and had to visit Bette's. Had a late lunch on a Thursday and no crowds; great turkey BLT with side salad. Came back for breakfast Friday morning and no crowd--had to get their Souffle Pancake (aka a Dutch Baby) with seasonal fruit. It really could be shared but I managed to eat it all! Also bought some copies of her cookbook for xmas presents and had to get a tshirt. Don't know if I'll be this way again.
Whatever you end up ordering will not disappoint!! I travel About an hour to get to Bette’s and totally worth it!!

My favorite breakfast joint in Berkeley. They have the best eggs and love that soft boiled egg is an option. I wish more places can do eggs like them.
We met family early on a a Saturday. There was already a line, but it was well worth the wait. We got coffee to go until our table was ready. Everything was great, especially the pumpkin pancakes. Service was wonderful. A real gem in Berkeley!
We stumbled upon this gem. We waited an hour to be seated but the food was great. The lox scramble was fabulous. The corned beef has was tasty. We grabbed a slice of key lime pie and pumpkin to go. Well hubby is the key lime lover....and has always saved a bite for me when trying stuff from new places...this time he didn't...told me the pie was "too good to waste even a bite on someone who doesn't enjoy key lime" he has already said we need to make the 30 minute drive to get a few for Thanksgiving. The Scrapple was very good. I've had homemade before as well as a few restaurants....this was just like the homemade recipe from my friends great great grandmothers.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and terribly funny the food was delicious and for someone who's come in from out of town expecting extremely expensive prices it was very affordable

My husband and I go here every chance we get. We don’t live in the area so we don’t get to visit very often. The staff are always friendly and the food is great. Yeah, sure we usually have to wait but it is totally worth it. 👍👍👍
