The food was amazing. Every dish was filled with a variety of flavors. The atmosphere reminded me of the old Emeryville marketplace only it was one type of cuisine. There were a mixture of nationalities and ages of people. My husband chose this place to have lunch for his birthday. He thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
Great service, awesome food and can't get enough of it. Prices of some items are bit on the higher side but no matter how crowded you always get a seat here.
It’s the best food one should try if they visit berkeley, just like things to do...
What a wonderful place. Nice people, fast service and wonderful food. My only complaint is I eat too much! I can't setup myself, it's so tasty!
Visiting from Atlanta. Food was awesome. Should do something about minimizing wait time for ordering food.
Amazing food!!! Everything here is such an experience! Feels like I'm transported to the streets of India in every bite!!
Thanks for the mini vacation everytime we come here!
My favorite spot in Berkeley !!!! A loyal customer for the past ten years and more to come ;)
amazing food- everything we got, we'd order again! a
must-stop in the bay!
Fantastic food and family friendly. I enjoyed the Pav Bhaji along with lots of other chat delicacies.
Lots of variety.. of Indian "street food". Freshly made. You can always find something good - North & South Indian.
Awesome Indian snack place that has a wide array of menu as well as attached Indian grocery store. The process to order is easy- you stand in a queue, get your order token, grab a table, wait for your number to be announced and then get your food from the delivery counter. The staff is friendly and efficient. South Indian food items, chole bhature, lamb baida roti, Kathi rolls, lassi are some of the recommended items here. They also have excellent sweets counter that is really awesome and will make you happy at the end of the meal. Also useful to know is that the place has a big parking lot.
If you are craving Indian street food, one of the best restaurants to run to. There could be a big rush on weekends as it’s a very popular place. You have to buy the food and find a table that is free to sit down. I have done a couple of take outs as well. Good place to visit just before a hike to pick up some snacks. They have a variety of chaats and street food like pack bhaji and so on. Quality food for an average cost.
Whenever I'm craving some Mumbai style food I end up visiting Vik's Chaat. It's a spacious joint, brightly lit with good service.
As for their food, I'd recommend every dish on their menu. I've tried almost everything there, but here are some of my favorites that I keep going back for:
DAHI BATATA PURI - If you like Indian chaats, this is a must have and positively addictive. ;-) Tangy, sweet and spicy all at the same time - each puri is a delicious burst of flavors in your mouth. And it doesn't end there! The best part is the mouth watering tangy mixture left in your plate once you are done eating the puris.
CHOLLE BHATURE - This dish tastes best when served hot and fresh, and that's exactly how they serve it at Vik's. The Chhole (white chickpeas curry) has just the right balance of spice and tang. And the curry has good consistency. The Bhature ( fried flatbread) is also nice and the best part is that it isn't too oily. A winner of a dish on the whole.
PAV BHAJI - Vik's is the only place in the Bay Area that serves authentic Mumbai-style Pav Bhaji. The quantity of the Bhaji is a little disappointing, but it tastes great.
UTTAPAM - These savory pancakes topped with tomatoes and onions is a traditional breakfast delicacy from South India and the guys at Vik's have nailed this dish too. It's the perfect crisp pancake with fresh ingredients.
I could go on and and on describing each dish here. But I'll limit my review to these favorites that I just mentioned. Absolutely love this restaurant and it's complete value for money!
The perfect Indian brunch/ lunch or evening snack place in Berkeley. Vik's has an Indian Grocery store attached o the restaurant. In the store, you get all the best-frozen food options and the dry snacks you would like.
The restaurant is huge and usually full. the orders do not take long. The food is delicious. They serve Indian street food. They do not have tikka masala but offer a wide range of other options.
My favorite is the Chuna Bhatura and papdi chaat.
The best place to eat Delicious Indian delicacies in Berkeley. Located a little bit far from the Berkeley downtown, but serves amazing varieties of Indian dishes, starting from chaats, sweets, main course like pav bhaji, chole bhature, samosa and a lot more.
Well we ordered almost all the chaats, pav bhaji, and samosa and also the kulfi since we had gone on a weekend.
It was a superb amazing delicious Indian treat. Amrita Hemdev
Really good authentic, flavorful Indian food. Its a crowded place on weekends. Biryani was a little flat but chicken Kathy kebab was full, well spiced and savory!
Our Berkeley friend brought us here knowing we were nostalgic for our time in India. It was the most authentic Indian chaat house we’ve been to since being back. There was a simple menu with all the classic Indian snack options (like cholle bhature, bhel puri, and dosas) cooked up at different stations where you picked up your food. It’s located off-the-beaten path in an industrial part of Berkeley, but worth the visit at lunch if you’re nearby.
Cholle Bhature is what i have been looking for around here in the Bay Area... This place servers one of the best in the area..... :)
I have been going here for almost 3-4 years... and this place has not changed...
There Chaat is also good...

Tucked away in a mixed industrial/residential sector of Berkeley's waterfront sits one of the gems of the city, a small Indian chaat house that looks like nothing from the outside and smells like heaven on the inside. Vik's specializes in a variety of vegetarian munchies and meaty masterpieces straight from the streets of India. Popular items like the Keema Samosa (ground lamb in a crispy shell), Koliwada Fish (spiced fried fish with onions and chutney), and Dosa (rolled crepes with vegetable filling) attract throngs of customers from around the East Bay at lunch time. The shop's most iconic item is one rarely seen stateside: Cholle Bhature, a massive puffy bread of sorts served with stewed lentils as a dipping sauce. My personal favorite, though, is their Biryani (fried spiced rice with roasted lamb or chicken). Vik's Biryani sets the bar high for other cafes in the area with perfectly seasoned rice, a kick of spice, and succulent meat that falls right off the bone. Paired with a mango lassi, it makes for a fine and filling lunch any day of the week. Savory concoctions are just one arm of the Vik's operation, though, as a massive dessert case filled with assorted Barfi (cakes) attracts sugar addled collegians and a small, but stocked, market caters to home cooks and shoppers. Amazingly, the restaurant's top qualities aren't even culinary in nature; ample parking, affordable prices, and a vibrant atmosphere greet first time customers. In the foodie haven of Berkeley, there are few better spots to enjoy a meal.

Like being back in Mysore!. Only had time to try one dish, but looking around and smelling the aromas, this was an amazing corner of southern India in Berkeley! Dosa! Everything looked delicious, and my dish tasted so... will definitely be back to the lively environment and great food!
Wonderful!. The food is fresh and perfectly seasoned, setting is energetic and uber delicious. I walked ten blocks to reach this location for lunch and it was well worth it! This will be on my 'must eat' list on my next visit to Berkeley!
Loved this place! Line moves very quickly and food is excellent.

Good Quick Lunch. I have been eating here for the past 14 years on a regular basis once or twice a week. The menu is reasonable in price and has something for everyone. The staff is friendly and provides quick service so you can be on your way within 30 minutes if you like.
Sweet Jesus it's amazing food.. Man this place was phenomenal. My wife used to live in Berkeley and told me about Viks. We now live in Dallas/Fort Worth area where there is ample good Indian food, but Viks is unique. There were Indian dishes I'd never tried, fresh flavors, and a wonderfully boisterous atmosphere. Loved it. Wish it was here in the Dallas area.
You are likely to find me here. I love this place and try to come once a week. Traditions! I spent many years getting meals here weekly, it has been a hard habit to break. If you go, try to arrive around 11:45 or 2pm to avoid the lines (though its not too much of a wait) Get the special of the day. If you have 3-4 people just skip the special and get 4-5 chaat to share. Not fine dinning, not a real sit down restaurant, but memorable, delicious and worth every penny. This place is habit forming, beware.
