Really good mediterranean fair. If it's your first time here, simply go for the MEDITERRANEAN MEZA plate (for 2 people). Will give you a sample of the best of their food. The variety itself makes this an option worth going for.
Delicious food, prompt and attention service, great ambiance and location. I've been a fan for years. Love it.
Berkeley at its best. The atmosphere is unbeatable. The service is excellent. The portions are large. The pomegranate chicken had plenty of flavor without too much oil or anything unhealthy.
Location. The food looked tasty, though all I can recommend is the Turkish Coffee and a seat at the tables outside for some excellent people watching on College Ave.
Great food, but.... I love their middle eastern platter - little tastes of several different items like the spinach feta roll, the cinnamon-y chicken roll with the chickpeas and raisins (I think), hummus and pita.... And the lemon chicken soup is awesome. But every time I've gone there (4 times now, I think), the service has had me doubting whether or not I'd go back. Call me crazy, but I like to be greeted by my server within 20 minutes of having sat down... And then my order taken soon after. Every time I've gone, I've either gotten the wrong soup or salad that I didn't order instead of the soup I did order, etc... And getting a refill on my drink? Out of the question. I'm also not a super picky person and will deal with getting the wrong items most of the time and will be generally pretty patient with slow service. And I know I would make a TERRIBLE waitress, and that it IS a challenging job, which is why I am not one. That said, I do keep going back because the food is so tasty.
This is probably my favorite restaurant ever. I love the veggie kabobs and the sampler dinner. Cute atmosphere. Outside seating faces onto college ave and has industrial overhead coil heaters. The dinners have a great variation of sides. The veggie kabobs come with pita, hummus, salad, and pilaf. So excellent.
Last February I travelled to Berkeley , CA for a few days. I was lucky to arrive on a weekend where it was pouring with rain! Even though I didn't go to a lot of places due to the weather, I'm still glad I got to eat at these restaurants: Suya African-Caribbean Grill On my first day, my tour guides, Emily and Tammy, recommended that I try Suya for lunch. There's not much African-Caribbean restaurants from my hometown, so I gladly wanted to check out Suya: We all got a combination meal. I chose to the Tilapia Fish with flatbread, grilled plantain, and grilled corn. The fish was lightly flavored to me, yet it was distinct. The sauce and grilled sides were nice add-ons to the meal: Emily got the Grilled Beef on a skewer with grilled corn and rice: Tammy got the Grilled Chicken on a skewer with the same sides I got: All these meats and fish were seasoned with Suya Pepper, a distinctive custom spice made with Jerk Seasoning , Scotch bonnet peppers , cloves, cinnamon, scallions, nut
