Excellent food...great service!
Hosted a wedding shower in the private room. Rave reviews from the guests! Union Mac & Cheese, Chop shop salad, salt & vinegar chips & dip and the EV1 veggie burger were amazing! Morgan was our server and was attentive and so helpful! Highly recommend!!!
Really long wait. Nice place though and friendly staff. Delicious chocolate milkshake and good burgers. Mac n cheese was alright and I didn’t quite like the side of chips with every order

A delicious and unique menu, coupled with excellent service! From burgers to pizza, over to hot dogs & cheese curds, there is something for every adult and child to enjoy!
I really love this place, always a solid go-to for taking guests, and every time I'm there I want to go back the next day. The garlic bread and fried cheese curds are a fantastic starter combo. It's hard to step out of my box and not get one of the pasta bowls (lelio bowl is the best!), but the burgers and pizzas are great choices as well. I have yet to go wrong with anything, and you have to at least try a side of the mac and cheese! You will probably have to wait for a table, but there are plenty of fun decor items to look at to pass the time, and a server will bring you a drink while you wait too. And it's the oldest car garage east of the Mississippi, so that's pretty cool.
"The city is going through a bit of a post-industrial revival and Vinsetta is a prime example of this revolution - an old garage now serving as a very busy eatery"
"Our food choices were the EV1 to both commemorate the Detroit auto industry and stay on the healthier side, plus a Duck Burger to completely offset all the health benefits brought by the first vegetarian option."
"We should note Vinsetta has plenty of food options. We focused on burgers, but they also have worthwhile main dishes, pasta bowls, pies and etc."
Just a few bites from our full review..
Simply awesome food. Good drinks. No parking and long wait but still worth it. Get there early. Burgers and the Mac and cheese are the best.
Vinsetta Garage was a pretty hip and cool place in the middle of nowhere. The place itself was built in this industrial warehouse looking thing on the street with some odd parking. The place was packed and the wait time was supposed to be more than an hour. We stood by the bar and ordered some drinks. As the food kept coming by, it made us so hungry that we eventually gave in and grabbed some food to go.
I ordered the coal fired bread sticks and the duck burger (of course). I definitely came to try the duck burger, but the coal fired bread sticks came into my mind based on all the people walking by. My buddy got the basic burger and we couldn't wait to eat very long so we actually parked on the street and ate in the car.
The duck burger was done fairly nicely. I was disappointed in that I could not taste any of the duck, but the meat was tender throughout and the cherry compote with the arugula and gruyere made the burger much better as a whole.
I'm unsure if they take reservations or not, but if they do, please make them. The wait here can be incredibly long but you definitely want to be able to check this place out. There is also valet parking available out front that was not bad at all.
Well...I suppose the rents along Woodward Avenue are quite high... This restaurant has been on my wish list since it opened to great fanfare a couple of years ago. Today, me, my BH, and my birthday-girl daughter crossed the threshold for the first time. Fair warning, the following comments may, in totality be a bit schizoid. VG is a very loud venue. We were there after the lunch rush--1:30 PM. The dining room was about half-filled, and emptied to about a one third capacity by the time our apps came to the table. But it was still a loud room! Wouldn't do a dinner here, never. Wonderful, attentive service throughout our meal. Our food choices: none of us reached for the table seasonings to amp up the flavor. That's a plus, right? Three apps ordered, Cheese curds (heavenly!), House made potato chips with a house made French Onion Dip (BH literally swooned with her first bite), and house cut French Fries (I though, over salted. Daughter did not). The Birthday Girl ordered the Vinsetta Duck Burger. Second sampling of this for her. And going in, she called this "the best burger in the world". She came away from this meal fully convinced of her first proclamation. Dear wife ordered the Mac & Cheese. Our waitress commented that she could add "stuff" to it. Silly girl, she chose a broccoli add to the dish. When delivered, this dish was enormous! It could have served for a side dish at a dinner intended to serve 10! But dear wife loved the flavors, and troopered thru about a third of the dish before surrendering.I ordered the 3 AM Burger, eight ounce beef patty, Maple Farms thick cut bacon, a slice of some kinda cheese, an over medium egg! and Vinsettas secret sauce, all on a pretzel roll. I personally would re-name this "The Over The Top" Burger. I've eaten thousands of hamburgers in hundreds of bars, and this was the first hamburger I've EVER had to halve! It was cooked to medium rare (kudos to the kitchen), but unfortunately it didn't knock me off my chair. Saved half for breakfast tomorrow.Plus points to Vinsetta Garage in sending our left overs home with us in pressed paper instead of Styrofoam.
I was very skeptical about this place because I've heard a lot of negative reviews, but to my surprise my visit was delightful.
I didn't have any trouble with parking.
I was greeted at the door by the hostess and was immediately seated.
In no time I was approached by my waitress and my drink and appetizer order was taken. She also told me some of the fan favorites and her personal favorites upon my request.
She returned with the House chips with cheese, bacon, chives, and sour cream. Delicious!!! Fresh, still hot!
Then I placed my order: the Vinsetta burger with no onions.
The burger was nothing less than perfect. The meat wasn't burned, the bread wasn't hard, the house sauce complimented the sandwich so well. It was great. I do recommend this burger. For dessert, I had the key lime pie, light and sweet, perfect whipped cream topping also. .
I went in the afternoon the service was great. No complaints from me.
Amazing dinner, great atmosphere, excellent beer selection and great staff.
Wood Stove Pizza. House Special
I absolutely love this place. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, great branding. Skipped the wait and went at 3pm. We got the disco fries, yeti dogs, Mac and cheese burger and a side of Mac and cheese. All of it was way good and the service was great- drinks stayed full and our waitress was helpful and pleasant. We say near the garage door and got to watch muscle cars drive down Woodward as we ate. I can't believe it took us this long to go there! I was so happy we finally did.
Date night. I love the atmosphere here. I love that it has a feel that I have never experienced before. The old mechanic garage feel is quite unique and the food follows with being excellent. There are great vegetarian options which makes the experience for me that much better.
Whimsical but not heart healthy. Grade: B-
Vinsetta Garage brings a lot to the table. The trappings of an old auto repair shop mixed with playful creations from the kitchen certainly makes this restaurant an unusual place for dinner.
Vinsetta's menu does present some appealing items that are prepared with skill, but so many of the 'oh-my-god-you-have-to-try-this' dishes are extremely rich. Care must be taken in choosing your meal. Either that or double up on your dosage of statin medication. Oh, and be prepared for a long wait for a table.
Union mac is their wonderful take on macaroni and cheese, using Vermont cheddar and Pinconning cheeses blended in velvety bechamel and baked to give it a crunchy top. Delectable. But I'd go with the side dish portion. (I only had a small tasting from another diner.)
Their hamburgers had a good reputation so I tried the Vinsetta burger, a double patty with American cheese, locally-made bacon, and a special sauce. It did taste good, but the half-pound of beef with all the toppings was a bit much and a bit messy. On the side were their onion rings which, again, were good but with all the other rich and fatty foods, I could only get down two.
One menu item that was pure fun was the Faygo ice cream. Faygo, the local pop brand for decades, makes one flavor called Rock & Rye, a cream cola. This Vinsetta used to flavor their own ice cream, which they sprinkled with pop rocks. I smiled all the way through.
There are a few healthier options, including a very tasty quinoa salad. This was good food, but the one-hour wait and too many rich items took Vinsetta Garage back down a few notches on my fun meter.
Awesome Food!. I finally got an opportunity to try this place and of course it was AWESOME!
The burger was awesome but its the Mac and Cheese that was really the winner for me...and I am can be picky!
I stopped by and ordered To Go on a Saturday and the wait was pretty long, probably 1/2 hour. But service was pleasant and the food was well worth it. Definitely give this place a try.
As good as expected. The Vinsetta burger with Union Mac... oh yummy level. Cooked right, juicy, and you can never go wrong with a pretzel bun. The union mac was pint size but just as good. The atmosphere and decor was great.
Must try this!. Very cool restaurant. great vibe, great service, and great food. Highly recommended!
Great place good food good price. Went there for dinner 2/7/2014 with my wife and two brothers. Parking is limited and so you kind of need to valet but I suspect without all the snow there are other places to park and walk. 30 minute wait for a table at 6:00pm on Friday wasn't so bad. The place was packed. Service was good nothing outstanding but then nothing to complain about either. That's a plus in my book. I just expect decent service. The food was outstanding. I had the Vinsetta burger but substituted the turkey patty for the beef with a side of Mac n Cheese. Wife had the salad with chicken, brother 1 the original Vinsetta burger with vegies and brother 2 the lamb burger with asparagus. We started off with the chili fries which were delightful and well prepared. (though perhaps we were all pretty hungry) I was happy to see they served BadAss beer which has been hard to find for me recently. But the food was excellent. Yes the burgers are messy but the napkins were heavy duty enough to handle it. As burgers go they were delicious and the pretzel buns are pretty good at keeping everything together. The Mac N Cheese (side portion) is worth every cent, very delicious, even if it isn't the greatest thing for you. It got a bit loud and I have to wonder why all 4 TVs were on the same NBA game and it wasn't the Pistons nor the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics. But hey, who is there for the TV right?
It's not super cheap but you also don't need to take out a loan to get a decent burger and beer. All in all, a pretty delightful experience.
This place has the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. You couldn't find a better atmosphere than Vinsetta. It is well worth the wait. Get the bleu cheese... You'll want to drink it
The macon bacon is excellent! This is hands down my favorite new place to eat!
Delicious. I ordered the Vinsetta burger and the baked mac and cheese and my fiace had the Macon Bacon burger with the chips. We each had to share it was so delicious and reasonably priced. The staff was great and service was quick even though they were very busy. Will definitely go again. I make it a must try place,
Meh, wasn't bad but wasn't great either. Got the Greek hotdog it was ok. Had to send back my brotger's Mac and cheese cause it was still cold in the middle.
Great -- excellent sweet chilli flank steak. Good mac n cheese. For a cheap cut of meat and a reasonable price it was deliciously prepared, tender and juicy, not like any other flank steak I have had. Great chopped salad. Been here before and found it good -- tonight it was great. If only they took reservations, the two hour ++ unknown wait time has deterred me here in the past.
ATmOsPhErE! Such a cool int.... ATmOsPhErE!
Such a cool interior...
We went on a Friday at 5 fully expecting a wait...within 10 minutes we were seated! Sweet! Our server was friendly & speedy...we had house salads... Fresh & delicious...sides of mac & cheese ( reason enough to go back tomorrow ) cheese curds ( incredibly wonderful)...it was a fine mix of all things right! My only possible complaint would be noise level...but that would never ever keep me away from this Mac & cheese!
The Vinsetta Burger is the best! Have had the Turkey Chili = = great. Mac/Cheese ==wonderful. The casual atmosphere, non-chain restaurant feel has me coming back. :)
Three visits and each time it was awesome. Parking onsite is limited but we found the FREE valet service very friendly.
Very popular, be sure to come ahead and reserve or get a phone call in.
A new reatruant, so the menu is medium size. My burger had a pretzel like bun, which I didn't go for. Burger was average at best. Fries were first rate. Family said their food was average too. Hopefully this will improve. Everything else was solid. Plenty of parking down the street, they own allot of parking a ways away (500')
Had a great time eating at the Bar while waiting for the 1.5 hour wait for a dining table. Ryan (bartender) was awesomely helpful, with a great attitude and plenty of menu knowledge that he commanded with expertise. The food was great, the recommendations were awesome. I'll be back!
Fantastic Venue! (food too). My wife and I ate there twice while up for the Dream Cruise. Both meals were fantastic and at a good price point for the meal served. We did go early evening both days around 5:15 - 5:30 and had a minimal wait time for our table.
Our new favorite place to eat when we're in-town for the cruise....
Best burger in the universe. 3am burger.
Worth the wait!. We headed over to VG on a Saturday (the first or second week it was open) around 5 pm with a party of 6. We waited about two hours, but very comfortably as they had seating outside of the restaurant and passed out water. We were seated at one of the beautiful leather booths where you can take in all of the cool decor. 4 of us had burgers, 1 had pizza and the other had a customized bowl of pasta with meatballs. Everything was outstanding! The pizza had a delicious wood-fired crust with great flavor. My 3 am burger was so tasty with an egg that oozed bright yellow out of my pretzel bun. The menu will surprise you with the high quality ingredients that take comfort food to the next level. We all said it was worth the wait and I've heard the same from friends. A must try!
Vinsetta Garage. Dined here with a friend from Washington, D.C., Monday evening. We enjoyed a pleasant wait, highly professional service, and a seriously good dinner at such a good price, my friend called me a cheap date. Come on, what are you waiting for?
The wait: Our fifty-minute wait (ten minutes fewer than projected) was spent at the bar, chatting with the bartenders and the guy next to us, and watching Chef and his crew in the open grill kitchen. An amazingly comfortable chair, a quickly served glass of wine, great architectural elements to take in, an interesting crowd to consider; it was so thoroughly pleasant, I was kind of sad when we were summoned to our table.
The dinner: We both had the 3 a.m. Burger, and agreed that it was the best we had ever had. The chips were excellent, and so was the house salad. Good food, perfectly prepared. Aaaah. Our sole disappointment was a salted-caramel frozen custard that we found too salty; when our server discovered this, she promptly brought us some milk chocolate frozen custard instead. That is hospitality.
The service: Our service was calm, competent, friendly without being too perky, and extremely knowledgeable. These people know their food, and they love it so you can, too.
It was really fun to show someone from cosmopolitan DC that we can shake it here, too, and I am already craving another burger.
No grease here. Engine or otherwise.. I've have been anticipating this place opening for a few weeks, now. And I was not disappointed once I finally had the time to embark on their flavorful cruise.
My fiancé and I went in on a Saturday evening and the place was hoppin', to say the least. We got a table right by the kitchen, which some deem as a negative. But as it's a new joint, it's interesting to see what dishes fly out those waving doors most often.
Their beer list (on tap and bottled) is vast and varied, as is their wine selection. I, myself, had my drink of choice, an Arnold Palmer (half lemon aid and half iced tea for those that don't know). Theirs was made from sweet tea, which can be disastrous if it's too sweet. Thankfully, it was perfect. I could tell the tea was brewed (not from a mix) and the lemon aid fresh-squeezed. A delight for the summer-infused taste buds.
The food was just as fantastic. I ordered their house specialty burger, and my lovely Myla ordered up their flank steak and a side of mac-and-cheese.
My burger was one of the best ones I've had in a good, long time. Hand-packed patties of irregular shapes sandwiched in a sesame seed bun, smothered in fresh tomatoes, crisp lettuce, scads of red onion and delicious, home-made pickles. The house burger sauce was served on the side with the hand-cut fries. The burger meat was ground Angus and just buzzing with flavor and the toppings, which really made the burger jump, jive and wail, were nearly fresh from the garden. Nothing ruins a burger faster than bland tomatoes.
The fries were a delightful addition, and were nearly the right mixture of crispness and internal potato fluffiness. And delightfully UNseasoned.
My lovely better-half had the sweet-chili rubbed flank steak which she enjoyed very, very much. I, strangely, am not much of a steak eater, but the few bites I stole were nothing short of phenomenal. I would definitely get that dish upon our next visit.
Along with her steak, she chose mac and cheese as her side dish, and it did not disappoint. It was sharp, flavorful, creamy and grown-up with a crunchy top. Absolutely delicious. It's sharp tang is a welcome change from most other M&C's.
We finished the night with a chocolate cake dessert, topped with vanilla bean iced cream and some Cap'n Crunch. I adore these details... I think doing a great job on the food and its presentation, while keeping it "blue collar" and even "slightly ghetto" is a trademark of Detroit's eats. It was delish!
And it truly is amazing how they've converted a grimy, greasy auto shop that's churned out classic restorations for decades, into a grease-less eatery, oozing with character, personality and charm in its decor.
A++
nix
Opening menu. Nix and I went to the new "Vinsetta Garage" for dinner last night. The place hasn't been opened for more than a couple of weeks, but already there were line ups. There is lots to like here.
They had saved much of the original garage and added in loads of interesting industrial and mechanical features. The branding was spot on and carried through everything from bar mats to ordering tickets.
The variety of over-sized garage lighting was fantastic! (our good friend Keven Carter was responsible for much of the style and desing btw). I expect this will be the place to be at dream cruise time. The big windows make for a perfect view of Woodward ave.
Now to the food.
The menu is American for the most part. Burgers, grilled meats, pasta and pizzas are the mainstays.
I had the flank steak with mac n cheese. mmmmm, so good! the steak was rubbed with sweet chilis and cooked over wood and the mac n cheese was tangy and grown up.
Nix had a burger with cheese and lots of fresh toppings. He had fries on the side.
He said it was probably the BEST burger he'd ever had. The pickles were home made and he said the angus beef was so flavorful and tender, it melted in his mouth.
He also said his Arnold Palmer was really tasty.
There are lots of crazy deserts. We had a chocolate cake which came with ice cream and cap'n'crunch on top! they have faygo ice cream with pop rocks ontop!
All in all, it was a great place to eat. there were also a million beers to choose from as well as a good sized wine list. The patio is opening soon I believe. It was raining so I'm not sure if it's operating yet.
We're definitely going back.
Located on Woodward, in Berkley, this garage turned restaurant prides itself on being the oldest car shop this side of the Mississippi River. I describe it as retro repair shop meets old school diner with a hipster feel. The menu consists of burgers, pies, and pasta and some unique treats. Expect long wait times, but once we got a table, our server was great. Some things are just worth waiting for. Atmosphere: 4 out of 5 bites Price: 4 out of 5 bites Quality/Taste: 4 out of 5 bites Service: 3.5 out of 5 bites (wait time) Wow Factor: 4 out of 5 bites ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Josh went with a build your own pasta bowl. Coal fired chicken penne pasta with bacon pecorino cream sauce, house-smoked cheddar cheese, carmelized onions, roasted red pepper, and spicy fried onions. The spicy fried onions were my favorite; chopped fried onion straws with some heat. I honestly think any pasta bowl you ordered would be d
As much as all of the aforementioned food was outright awesome, I have to praise separately the sidecar (get it?) known as the Farro Hash. Sincerely, oh.my.yum. I could eat this breakfast in a bowl (my words, not theirs) any time of day, and arguably on a meal on its own (though with a menu like that which is found at Vinsetta Garage, that just wouldn't seem right). In the small casserole dish is perfectly cooked and tender farro (1, 2,
Visiting from Texas and this place has a cool vibe. The margaritas, food, Mac n cheese, cheese curds, wings, everything was delicious. I had the salmon kale salad and it’s huge, definitely could be shared. The salmon was cooked to perfection. Our server was very attentive and had great recommendations for our large party.
Had a decent experience here. Our server was great, but the service was slow. Really liked the atmosphere and vibe of this restaurant; pretty cool concept. Enjoyed their cheese curds and disco fries. Also had their vegan 'The EV1' burger which was good. The burger came with chips on the side which I think were overly hard and crunchy.
They have the best Brownie pot pie 🤤. Love their food. The Appetizers are so good. I tried cheese curds, Disco fries and chips. Cheese curds are my favorite. Tried the Baby kale salad so yum. This place never disappoints me. Although this time the service was super slow. They have a small parking area behind the restaurant. I love going here for a quick dinner! Highly recommend going here.
I hadn't been in years and the menu selection is even better!!! Very happy with my meal and can't wait to go back when it's warmer. The Drink was so yummy. Had a frothy egg white finish!
The burgers are amazing I don’t remember the burger of my husband but mine it was with bacon. Also I ordered Mac and cheese and it was good but I think it was too much for me I couldn’t enjoy the ice cream because I was full but my husband said it was deli.
This place has such a nostalgic and vintage vibe. What was once an automotive garage is now an excellent dining experience. Low key and dim light dining room, friendly staff and great service. Really loved the atmosphere and the harty food portions.
I came to this place on the 26th of May, shortly after it opened for the day. Service was phenomenal and we were quickly taken care of.
I ordered the Macon Bacon burger and got fries as a side (Note: you have to upgrade your side order from chips to fries at a price of $2.50). While the burger was good, it wasn't something for me to write home about. There was nothing wrong with the burger! Everything on it tasted great. I was definitely full, and yet I still had to cram a sizeable amount of house-cut fries down my gullet.
On another special note, I absolutely love the atmosphere here. It is absolutely beautiful and felt like a trip back in time. Even the outside of the building is a spectacle to behold! It makes this place a much more memorable eat for me.
I've lived near this place for 3 years now, and I think I've tried just about everything on the menu. It's all been great. I've never had bad service, a mistake made on my order, or ever had to send something back. It's obvious everyone here takes pride in their work, from the chefs to the dishwashers. The appetizers are unique. The burgers are great. The pasta bowls are generous and very filling. The sides are great (I highly recommend the onion rings). Their house made sauces for burgers and dipping are very unique. And, the Mac and Cheese... I have no words to describe it other than "wow" . There's a reason why national TV hosts have highlighted this recipe. The prices are reasonable for a specialty style restaurant on Woodward. I'm grateful they are within walking distance. It's awesome to have a great place like this so close, but it's well worth the drive, and a great place to take out of town guests.
