Best pizza on the north shore, hands down. These other reviews are absolute garbage. I have personally never had a problem with Mikes Pizza in Beverly, and do not know anyone who has.
Not your Average Mikes........ I’ve been to this place a few times since they opened. Pretty much liked everything I’ve tried so far. Fresh, scratch made seasoned, chicken cutlets. The juicy cheeseburger sub had a nice, charred taste. Very crispy fries, frozen, not fresh cut but still very good. I’ve also met the owner. He is a very dedicated, hands on type guy. He takes a lot of pride in his food. We’re talking two kinds of sauces here, a traditional, or a sweet version, your choice. I’ve had the traditional, very fresh tasting. The menu is flamboyantly large including a section just for dessert calzones. Speaking of calzones. Here’s the thing, I love’em but I hardly order them. I grew up in NY and I’ve been to Naples Italy. To me, a calzone isn’t a calzone unless ricotta cheese involved. It’s hard to find since so many local joints are Greek owned and operated. This is the first Greek style pizza place that I’ve come across in almost 30 years that has ricotta as an option. Oh yeah, I ordered one. I didn’t give much thought to the cooking process and as it hit the table, I laughed. I realized that although it was made with Italian ingredients, ricotta, moz, sausage, and mushroom, all inside a half moon shaped pocket of dough, it was made pan-style, like Greek pizza. Well, that was just fine by me, it was fantastic.
Can’t say the same for the kind of pizza but that’s me. Like I said, I’m from NY, never heard of Greek pizza until I came up here. The owner insisted my brother and I sample a few other things, the two kinds of marinated steak tips we tried were crazy good. I’m definitely gonna do a steak sub there soon. I was a bit less enthusiastic about the onion rings. While I have no doubt, there a hit with other customers, I found them to be plain tasting and a little greasy.
The place is clean, Spartan, with just enough seating to accommodate a lunch crowd. I think takeout orders are their main business. The owner is friendly and very likely to visit your table to insure your satisfaction. Last and certainly not least is the ample, curvaceous group of females working behind the counter. Yeah, I tend to linger a bit longer than needed when I’m up there ordering. I did learn though, just in time to be careful around the ultra-sexy blonde. She’s the owner’s wife. Lucky man. Well, I think I’ve rambled on enough. Eat, enjoy, live.......Just don’t flirt with the blonde, your order might come with a side of, ouch.
