I was very impressed with Satterfield's customer service. When we made a reservation on a Monday for my birthday a private event was being hosted so we reserved a table in the bar area. Two weeks before my birthday they called to tell me they had to cancel our reservation because the event wanted to rent out the entire space including the bar. While most restaurants would have just said sorry for the inconvenience Satterfield's went above and beyond. They gifted us two three course meals and made by birthday dinner a few days later wonderful. They had custom menus printed for me and the wait staff was excellent. The food was delicious as well and they had a wonderful wine list. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanted a delicious meal with excellent service.

This was an all around amazing meal. Everything from the appetizer, the beef tenderloin, to the strawberry-lemon tart was amazing! The service was amazing, the atmosphere was amazing, and the chefs were all amazing. Did I mention that this place is amazing?

I love this place!! The veal short ribs are "lick your plate good!" The waiter, Andrew was superb And very knowledgeable in all that was offered and available. The only thing to complain about is a large group sitting in the center of the dinning room was very loud. They should have been seated in the bar/lounge area out of respect for those of us wanting a quiet evening.

This was our first time dining here and it was excellent! The service was amazing and everything was timed perfectly. We had the coddled egg appetizer and the snapper and bolognese carbonara for dinner. The carbonara is now on my husband's top 10 of all time! We highly recommend it!

My honey and I had an outstanding experience last night! This was our first time dining at Satterfield's. The service, food and atmosphere were all amazing. This is an elegant but cozy restaurant. The delightful menu is Southern cuisine peppered with international fusion. We will definitely be back. Thank you Patrick (executive chef) and Adam (sous chef) for sharing your talents with us!

My son rented the private dining room for me and his father for our 50th wedding anniversary. We had great service and delicious food. That's what you want when you eat out. All of our guests were happy with what they were served except one had a complaint and it was taken care of immediately. We had a very curteous waiter and waitress. Everything was perfect. After we had eaten they brought our anniversasry cake in the room so we could take pictures, then came in and cut it and served it for us with coffee, if you wanted it.

The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. It's cool that you can see what is going on in the kitchen. The food was very good, we had a steak and the scallops. For the quality of the food and service, it is very reasonably priced.

We love this restaurant, so we decided to go for our anniversary dinner at Satterfield's last night. The drinks were great, and the food was truly exceptional. Our waiter, Donald, exemplified service, and hospitality. Thank you for making our anniversary one to remember.

The food was delicious& the atmosphere was relaxed, yet refined. We were in from out of town& not the best dressed considering we had been shopping& sill felt comfortable. Our server was very helpful& friendly. My Uncle always took his business partners when flying into Bham there& highly recommended it. We will too!

We enjoyed the atmosphere and the delicious food. My wife had the duck and I had the grouper. Both were generous in portion size and well prepared. Our waiter, Donald, was great and very knowledgeable. He made sure we were content ADT all times without being overbearing. He quickly answered, in detail, questions about wines and the menu. The ambiance was nice, upscale but not too much. The only thing this dinner was missing was bread to have with drinks before our meal.

This is a very nice restaurant divided into 2 sections. One is a bar and the other a seated dinner area. I had no reservation, so I got to enjoy the seat at the bar. The bartender was very professional and helped me with my picks. I had the crème brulé and it was probably the best one I have ever had. It is more for an older crowd but will work just fine for a nice calm date night.

Had a fabulous meal last night. Started with the capresse salad and charcuterie board. Both were excellent. The charcuterie had the best Lardo that I have eaten in a long time, and the capresse salad was on point. For an entre my wife had the rabbit, and I devoured succulent pork. Best rabbit I have eaten in a long time. Highly recommend!

Well done!. First time at Satterfield's for Birmingham Restaurant Week. I had the amberjack and my husband had the pork. The amberjack dish was perfect - a smallish portion, but plenty. Grits were wonderful and creamy. His pork dish was more of a hearty stew - it was delicious but not exactly what we expected. Beignets were wonderful! The meal took close to 2 hours - it was a pleasant, slow meal with the courses spaced out. If we were in a hurry at all it would've been frustrating, but the service was great - we were well attended to. We will definitely be back.

Everybody Knows Your Name. This restaurant does reservations better than any place we've frequented. They know our names, the actual seats at the chef's table where we sit and watch the meals being prepared. They ask us if it is a special occasion during the reservation process and then upon our arrival whip out menus with our names and the event we are celebrating on top. I'd love to think that it is just us receiving this treatment, but in reality they make everyone feel special.

We discovered this place during a Birmingham Restaurant Week several years ago when fixed price menus are offered. The experience was so memorable that we became instant fans.

The food is always beautifully prepared based on seasonable availability. The combinations are things I would never try with delectable results. We find ourselves talking about the meal the next day and reliving the enjoyment. The chefs and waitstaff are always the same, which speaks to their loyalty. If you want a consistently great experience from start to finish, this needs to get on your "must visit" list.

Amazing! My husband and I went for our anniversary. The entire staff was amazing and I cannot say enough about the food. Perfection. I had the grouper, it was perfectly seared, juicy and cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the filet, melt in your mouth is all I can say. The almond butter cake with salted caramel for dessert could not have topped of the dinner more perfectly. A+

One of the best fine dining restaurants in B'ham. Satterfield’s is out of another time. They seem perfectly content with 1 seating per night. I went recently with a group of about 12, and we held our table until close to 9 pm, as did almost all every other table that evening (a weeknight). Let me be clear: full house, 1 seating. That's confidence. Everything was delicious from the range of appetizers we tried to entrees and desert. (Well, I take that back. I wasn't crazy about my gelato, but it was good). The clientele does appear to be older, but I found the same to be true at Hot and Hot. This is event dining. The point is to eat. This is not let's-grab-a-bite-before-catching-the-movie-at-the-Summit-or-clubing kind of place. This is for a leisurely paced meal with people you actually want to talk to. It's a glorious anachronism.

They do things right. Excellent meal. Excellent service. The Iron Seared Yellowfin Tuna, Bacon Wrapped Veal Sweetbreads, and Petal’s From The Past Meyer Lemon-Caper Vinaigrette was out of this world delicious! I'm thinking of returning later this week just for this dish.

One of the best. Can't believe I didn't write a review for this place. It's great. Rabbit liver was excellent. One of the best things I've ever eaten. Foie gras was incredible. Wife loved the pork belly. Loved it. I still think the best is at Highlands. Wife thinks I'm nuts. Says it's here.

She had the coffee duck. Loved it. I had the grouper. It was perfect. Desserts were good. Best vanilla ice cream.

One downside. Did not know how to make a French 75, so it wasn't that good. Making up for it was the best Manhattan on the planet and it's not close.

Sat at the chef counter. Wouldn't sit anywhere else.

Worth every penny.

Just my luck, my pig was on a diet. This is my 60th review on Urban Spoon. In the first 59 reviews I never mentioned anything said by another reviewer. I figure everyone goes to a restaurant with their own expectations and while they're there they have their own experiences--who am I to judge their opinion of those experiences? This is the one and only time I will break the Hungry Hungry Hippo Prime Directive. Whenever I select a restaurant I check their website. I'm looking for their current menu (hopefully with prices, which not all restaurants include) and a link to make reservations. If they have one, I use it. If they don't have one, I figure none are needed. So I'm surprised to read a review of an upscale joint like Satterfield's in which the diner is surprised that a lack of reservations is met with dismay (but their party was seated anyway), they were surprised at the amount of the bill (did they not check out the place at all?) and my favorite part: the rabbit was delicious, but it looked too much like a rabbit so the reviewer couldn't eat it and therefore was hungry when she left the restaurant. What did she think it would look like--a rutabaga?

Anyway, I went to Satterfields (after making reservations) last Friday night with 4 other folks. I ordered the appetizer I always order at any restaurant that serves it: the Pork Belly. In this case it was braised and served with greens and butternut squash. The greens and squash were both good. In fact it was the first time I've ever had butternut squash if you can believe it. I am tempted to add that it was delicious, but it looked too much like a butternut squash and therefore I couldn't eat it, but the truth is I ate every bite. I am now a fan of the stuff and can't wait to try some soup made of it. Alas, the pork belly, one of my favorite dishes in the world, was only so-so. I know I shouldn't eat pork belly at all--it's bad for my heart, it clogs my arteries, it's got too much fat (one of my regular dining companions is grossed out by the amount of fat on pork belly but it's my favorite part) but darn it, when something tastes this good how can you NOT order it?

My anti-pork belly pal would be able to eat this with no problem. Jack Sprat could eat this thing with no problem. It tasted okay I guess, but where was that delicious, deadly fat? It was a nice tasting piece of pork, but I have to take their word for it that it came from the pig's belly.

The rest of my party ordered salads, soup and and fried oysters. I think it was oysters. It was something fishy so I gave it only a cursory glance. Whatever it was, he ate it all and made Mmmm Mmmm noises while he did it so I'm guessing he liked it. Likewise the soups and salads got high marks. I was the only one less than satisfied with the first course.

We all gave a thumbs up to the entrees. Two of us got the Filet. I have to say it was one of the best I've ever had. Lots of places describe their steaks as "hickory grilled" but this really did taste like it was grilled over a hickory wood flame instead of cooked in a skillet or under a broiler. The blue cheese mashed potatoes were killer. Two folks got the snapper and loved it and one of us got the Venison Osso Bucco. He said it was very good, but a little dry.

Everyone but me got a dessert. The Almond Butter Cake was hands down the big winner but the beignets also got high praise. Instead of dessert I ordered a dessert wine. I have never ordered any kind of wine with dinner in my life. This was the Fonseca Bin No. 27 Finest Reserve Port. It came in a cute little glass well before everyone else's desserts came out. I took baby sips so that I'd still have something left when the rest got their sweets. I'm not a big fan of wine but this was some good stuff. As small as the glass was, I had to push it away after drinking only half of it as I was halfway to feeling loopy. I don't know if it was really that strong or if it was just because it's been so long since I've had anything alcoholic to drink or what. I wrote down the name of it and I'm gonna keep an eye out for it whenever I'm any place where wine is sold by the bottle. I'm allowed to get loopy when I'm at home, after all.

The dinner was good. But that no-fat pork belly was a disappointment. I hope it was just a fluke. One final note, our server Tabitha was very good. I freely admit that I'm a high maintenance diner on occasion and Friday night I was worse than usual--changing my drink from tea to soda, making her do too much work when I placed my order--and she was friendly and helpful throughout. I wouldn't blame her for calling me names when she was in the kitchen but when she was in the dining room she was a pro.

WOW!! Amazing Food, Cozy and clean environment and excellent wait staff! FIVE STARS*****. I had the best experience with Satterfields this week. We picked it for our weekly ladies night and I must say it was incredible and we'll be back. The service was on point and our waitress was very polite and professional and personable. We started with a mixture of malpeque oysters that were small, fresh and full of flavor. My dinner was beyond my expectations and so good that I personally called the Chef out to shake his hand. It truly was the best chicken dish I've had out of all of the fine dining restaurants in Birmingham. I enjoyed the Oven Roasted Tanglewood Farms Chicken Breast and Farmer’s Market Succotash with Lady Peas, Heirloom Tomatoes, Okra, Sweet Corn, Basil, and Citrus-Foie Gras Butter and as an extra little surprise the Chef added a few fried okra's. Ahh SO GOOD!! It was top notch and full of flavor and the chicken was extremely juicey. I could not stop going on and on about how good it was. On top of the tastinss, the presentation was spectacular. All together from start to end it was an incredible dining experience and I will be going back very very soon.

Consistently good, top notch food.. I've been going to Satterfield's intermittently for years, and as dinner concludes I always find myself saying, "I need to remember this place more often." Maybe it's Birmingham--a town renowned for its food and crowded with good restaurants. Maybe its the fact that I don't live in this part of the city. But for whatever reason, I need to experience this place more often. It is consistently up there with the very best of them.

Went last night for the first time in quite a while and was, as usual, blown away with the quality of the food. I started with the Green Garden Gazpacho, which featured just enough marinated lump crab salad and dill to keep things interesting from a texture standpoint, and the lemon oil provided just enough citrus and acidity to bring it to life. There is absolutely nothing more refreshing than that. Very, very solid.

The Pan Sauteed Gulf Red Snapper bested any entree I've had in quite a while--definitely topping the wahoo I had just last weekend at Highland's. Wahoo is 100%, no doubt a more special piece of fish than the Snapper--and in my humble opinion, a better tasting fish--but Satterfield's absolutely killed the preparation. Served atop a farmer's market succotash with butter beans, corn, cherry tomatoes, crawfish, and what appeared to be tasso ham, this dish really nailed a balance between savory (ham & broth), starchy (corn & butter beans), slightly tangy (tomatoes), slightly sweet in a rich way (crawfish), and just enough of a detectable spice.

Don't even get me started on the Blueberry Frangipane cake. "Blueberry Compote, Almond Frangipane,
Graham Cracker" is not typically my thing at all, but throw in "Cream Cheese icing" and I was intrigued. So glad I tried it; truly one of the best deserts I've had in a long time. The cheese cuts the sweetness of the blueberry and the result is pure goodness.

Gem of Cahaba Heights. Satterfield's beignets are my favorite plate dessert in town. The meals are always good, but to be honest, I go solely for this one dessert. And I love the fact that it's tucked away in Cahaba Heights.

One of the best in Birmingham. Definitely deserves to be near or at the top of the list. I've never had a bad dish here. From the fresh raw oyster bar to the nice mix of proteins (rabbit, venison, buffalo, etc); you're sure to find something unique here. The win list is comprehensive and the French press coffee with cheese plate is the best for finishing up.

The only disappointing thing here is the desserts. I've tried them at least 4 times now, and each one was way below my expectations. I hate to say this, but if you're a dessert person, stop up at the Cheesecake Factory just up the road.

Love Satterfields. We love going to Satterfields for cocktails, which usually turns into eating dinner. The drinks and bartenders are great! I love that they make my orange martini perfect every time! The food is so hard to resist. When they have the pork chop on the menu, you must get it. Haller has made it just melt in your mouth. This is coming from someone that never orders pork. A great night to just try it out is Wed. when they have the Tapas.

Hidden gem. We absolutely love Satterfields! One of Birminghams best restaurants in our opinion. Executive Chef Haller Magee creates some wonderful dishes using fresh ingredients. The menu changes frequently, based on what is available ensuring that there is always something new to try along with a host of standards that only seem to get better. If you are in the Birmingham area, I highly recommend giving them a try!

Great food!. Satterfields's is one of my favorite places in the birmingham metro area. My biggest problem with this restaurant is that everything on the menu is so great that i have trouble choosing! I don't know what my favorite is... last fall they had a great Duroc pork chop with a sweet potato relleno... it was heavenly. But then again there is a fresh pasta dish that is to die for. And I love the seafood... everything from fresh tuna to fried oysters. See my problem? Too much good food to choose from!!!

The bottom line is that I love Satterfields' because they consistently serve up food that is stellar.

My favorite!. I LOVE Satterfields!!! Great food, wonderful people. I think that Satterfields' is a hidden gem in Birmingham's dining scene. Located behind the Summit and just minutes from i-459 it's a great location - easily accessible from Southside, Homewood, or Inverness.

The food ROCKS - i've never been disappointed with the food at Satterfields' and I honestly can't think of anywhere else that I can say that about. Great fine dining with southern sensibilities.

Plus, I also love the bar menu on Monday and Tuesday nights - it's a great place to meet for a drink and a bite to eat.

Can't wait for cooler weather to try out the wonderful new patio addition.

If you haven't tried Satterfields' you are missing a real treat!!!!!!

Fine dining at its best.... Wonderful experience at Satterfields...Sat at the chefs table, which added an element of show to the xperience. Wastching all the great dishes being prepared made it difficult to chosse an entree..appetizer of pork shoulder over sweet potato gnochis were a highlight.
Among the entrees, the grouper was outstanding, as were the bacon wrapped scallops...

Nice , well priced wine list ...outstanding desserts as well..the ginger snap ice cream sandwish is addictive..

Very good restaurant, id rank it among BHM's top 3...
