Had brunch here as I was staying in the Westin. Delicious grits, smoked bacon, eggs, sausage...basically the works. Good drink ambiance at night with live band.
OH MY STARS!!!
Best experience I have had in a long while! I don't know if it was because they weren't that busy at the time, or the server we had or the hilarious amateur rap video they were filming outside, but the whole experience here was awesome! This place will now fight with The Southern as a favorite for me. I went tonight (Friday at 6:40pm) with my husband. We started out with beers I had the Bad Boys flight and be just had one. They were all delicious! We then after a while had the cheese board which was tasty. Then we ordered more drinks. I had a bloody mary and he had another beer. Both were good. We then had our entrees. I had raw oysters and he had the sliders. Both were excellent. I would compare these oysters to the ones rate the best at Wintzells. Seriously, they were that darn good. The bloody mary sauce they come with was the freaking bomb! I will most definitely be back and bring a clan of drinker with me!
Incredible dinner at Todd English P.U.B. last night. The salmon was incredible, and I loved the Spaten beer from Munich. Fantastic, friendly service.
Amy & I tried out Todd English P.U.B. for the first time today. We had the Sweet Tea Brined Fried Chicken Biscuits with a side of some of the best fried potatoes I've ever tasted & the "Small" Smoked Salmon Plate served over mixed greens, plum tomatoes & a light vinaigrette. I must say, the food was fantastic, our server was very polite & the atmosphere was right up my alley (very upscale/modern with hints of rustic & dark colors)...but the restaurant was very understaffed today & that was reflected in certain ways (although our server more than made up for that). Not counting this place out, we will definitely be back! Looks like the perfect Saturday place to enjoy their happy hour menu & drinks while cheering for a Crimson football team.😊👍
What are all the negative waves about?. My girlfriend and I had a fine time here. We ate dinner and had beer and cider to drink. Everything was good. I really enjoyed the chicken and waffles.
I had been wanting to try Todd English P.U.B. for a while. So after my brother's wedding reception last night in Birmingham, myself and friends tried it out. We all ordered small plates at the bar. Everyone was overall satisfied. Our bartenders were nice enough and attentive. They were out of raw oysters however, so I ordered the smoked wings. Overall good experience and social outing.
Bravo! For our anniversary, I selected Todd English P.U.B. Based on notoriety, menu selection and the appealing photographs on the website. (We dine in restaurants from hole-in-the-wall to fine dining - all with high culinary expectations - and this evening we wanted a low key environment with upscale amenities. That's exactly what we got.) From parking to entrance, all was well-kept and what you would expect of a restaurant nestled in a prime location by the Westin and convention center. We were greeted in the open and moderately lit pub with a warm smile/friendly hostess and led to our table. Kyler was our server and he was well-versed in the menu. This, I learned, was due to being employed there since opening. This was expected, but he added a friendly, upbeat, suggestive yet non-pushy approach. He displayed a professional recovery on a momentary item delivery delay. Great service!
The tuna tartare, seafood beignets, steak, Brie and bacon sandwich, fish and chips and bread pudding were all well prepared and presented. Flavor and attention to detail reigned. For example, the steak edges were easily cut and succulent, beignet corn garnish was exceptionally fresh (and complimented nearly everything on the table) , the fries were crisp, tasty and the adult portion was slightly saltier than the child's portion. My personal favorites were both of the appetizers which complimented the meal. All was cooked as we requested and thoroughly enjoyable. Add to that the focal-point of an enthusiastically well-stocked bar with both local and national favorites...great environment and easy to recommend.
We pay a lot of attention to detail and so too does Todd English and his Birmingham staff. We'll raise our glasses in toast the next time we visit...and that will be soon.
Todd English PUB is great!. I took a friend here last night. I had been there before, but only for drinks. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Our server Jason recommended the Lobster rolls and that was definitely a great choice. The drink menu is unbelievable. They even have Trappist Monk beers! Can't wait to go back....
LIKES IT - Great Food and Atmosphere!!!!. It was a great experience overall. Although a bit pricey, I felt that the food made up for it. The atmosphere was amazing for the artsy type, especially with the great background noise of a live band. Ultimately, for me, it was the pleasant surprise of their macaroni and cheese. It has to be arguably some of the best tasting mac n cheese I have tasted. I like it.
Great Lobster Cobb, Weird 16% "tax". July 25, 2013, 5:30P. The Lobster Cobb Salad was as good as one could ask for, better than expected. Beautiful presentation. The bowl was centered with the lobster & it was surrounded by ingredients banked in groups or sections and a deft touch of a delicious refreshing aioli sauce. Nice is an insufficient comment.
The idea is to plunge the fork into the lobster then go to any of the various sections of ingredients arranged around the side. Thus each successive bite can produce varying taste combinations. A delightful exploration for the senses.
And this was our second choice, our first being the Maine Lobster Roll. Our excellent server, Jason, sadly reported that the kitchen had run out of the chef's choice of bread roll due to a "big party last night." Hmmmm? Someone asleep at the pantry?....with all day to get a fresh supply from the source, "a Mountain Brook bakery," sez Jason. "Which one, Jason?" Oh, well. We suspect it's located in English Village.
To the chef's credit, we two were offered (gratis) a trial taste of a single lobster roll using a different bread product, with the chef's caveat that it is not the one preferred but "try it and see what y'all think." And we did. And we passed. But will return upon assurance -- in advance -- that the bread bin has been refilled.
Now to the weird billing, the "Fee in lieu of tax" enigma. Jason 'splained that it's a City thingy having to do with a fee assessed instead of a tax. OK. I checked item one on the ticket and it was at 10% (one $18 Cobb Salad plus $1.80 fee; total $19.80 ).
My error. Later, at home, I checked the other two listings: One was for two cocktails & 1 Cobb Salad ($36) plus the fee of $5.76. Yikes! 16% fee? Que pasa?
The third and final breakdown was for 2 more drinks at $36 plus the fee, which now was $3.96 -- Double yikes plus an ouch! That was a 22% "fee."
So for 4 drinks($36) & 2 Cobb Salads$36). a total of $72. And the weird fee of $11.52 adds up to an overall 16% tax....errah, "FEE. (What other word in the past tense begins with an "F"?).
So we'll give 'em one more shot at the Lobster Roll, which in Maine is absolutely to kill for.
To end on a nicer note, two glasses of Prosecco were gratis. Thanks to Jason & mebbe the kitchen person. (p'raps he was asleep then, too?).
Great food and great service. Try the chicken an waffles with a cold beer from the many they have to choose from on tap. Ask for Jason!
We went with another couple who had previously been to the restaurant. Our feelings were mixed. First our server Cathy was great and was able to answer all our questions. The beer selection was impressive; if only they had half the beers listed. The food menu was large, but where was the shepherd's pie and the ploughman's lunch? The junk chips were good as was the bangers and mash. The whole thing was good, but it could have been better.
Todd hits home run. Other then the mead was out, THIS PLACE ROCKS!!! Todd can't do anything food wrong, WTF the guy loves beer too. Jason and the rest of the staff are awesome. So don't be afraid to ask because I now love Birmingham local brew.
Great happy hour but slow service. Went downtown to check out what was new and ended up here on a whim. Great bar with an awesome selection of draft beers. Wine list was underwhelming. Really nice outdoor patio. Space for bands to set up so they must have live music - will have to check that out. Cool "serve-yourself" beer tap tables for private parties. Happy hour deals on drinks and snacks were great. Nice touch that draft beers were served in glass specific to the style or even the beer itself (wouldn't want to be a bar back here). Wings were decent - came dry with ramekin of hot sauce and butter to dip on the side. Sliders were ok - tasted kind of like meatloaf though. Menu was huge with really great "sounding" food options. Prices were steep so I would order carefully based on reviews or recs. Biggest problem was slow service. Bartenders seemed overworked and kitchen was ridiculously slow! Lots of potential - we'll be back.
Our meal was delicious and Jason was a wonderful server. Good recommendations! Try the chicken and waffles!

Loved this place!. Had the BEST salmon dish, ever, recommended by our awesome waiter, Jason! Will definitely be back next time I'm in Birmingham!
I voted that I "like it," but that's solely because the chef saves the day with excellent food that's well prepared and with a flavor that is deep and rich. I came in late and has the beer battered crispy pickles and just a simple burger...both were outstanding.
HOWEVER...the staff is horrible. Everyone working there seemed miserable, had no motivation, and were extremely lazy when it came to actually serving and creating the atmosphere. I noticed that it all seemed to stem from the manager who would criticize his employees on the floor in front of customers, as well as jump in to take care of orders himself without ever giving the employee a chance to do it. The only thing I can say is that this guy (or guys/gals) running the place needs to be fired. You never know who may walk in the door to eat, and for a restaurant with higher prices and an exceptional chef...as another member already mentioned...your service must be up to par.
So while I did like this restaurant for the food and the decor, everything else needed major improvements.
Great food, great music and atmosphere! Our waiter Jason was awesome!
A tad loud, but good food and service. Food was very good. If you're out with friends, definately a place to go. Waiter was very personable and knowledgeable about the beer selections, and suggested a perfect beer. Not really a place to go if you plan to have meaningful conversation, but still a good restaurant.
Just try it. I went there last night for second time. The first time was for lunch and it was very crowded and wanted to try for dinner. The service is everything you could want. The servers are very enthused and attentive. You can also try a sample of any beer on the list which is very cool considering they have a fantastic beer list. TEP has great food regardless of what others say. The only problem with this place is that the food does not match the price you have to pay for it. Everything on the menu is about $5-$7 too expensive. Other than the price tag, TEP is a great addition to Birmingham and will continue to go back.
Review. I had the pleasure of dining at the new pub with my friend and i had a very nice experience. our waiter, brandon was superb, attentive and entertaining along with two other waiters that were excellent as well. my entree' was very good . the popcorn was a great snack. we will dine again.
