Great food!!! Delicious pita bread. The gyros are so good and the sauce was great. I love this part of town and I love the outdoor seating for my dogs.
Legendary gyros. Definitely the best gyros around. The pita wrap for it tastes amazing. The gyro comes equipped with tons of delicious gyro meat, a good tzatziki sauce, and quality lettuce and tomato. The hamburger and fries are really good as well. I haven't tried many things on the menu because the gyro is difficult to pass up. I have gotten the spinach and rice and it's really interesting and good; it's in something like a tomato-soup-situation. The one thing that irks me is that [golden flake] chips are included in the price for the sandwiches/wraps, and I'm not a real big fan of chips. I wish the prices were separated and I could get whatever side and pay the price difference.
Hello yummy!!. Love this place! The Pita's are homemade and so delicious! Don't miss this gem of Greek goodness!!
I went with a few folks from work. 4 out of 5 of us thought the food was good. The portion sizes and prices are fair. The people are nice and hospitable. I'm rarely in that area but I wouldn't be against going back. However, going after 5pm might be best. More items on the menu become available.
Vampires beware. I'd never heard of Pappas Grill until I saw them listed on Urban Spoon. With such a high rating I had to check them out. You can't see them from the street so be sure you know where you're going. I ordered some pita bread and taziki sauce and the beef tenderloin kabob with Greek Potatoes (though I was sorely tempted to get the spinach and rice instead of the potatoes. Next time.)
When the pita bread came out i thought, Goodness, how will I eat all of that by myself? After the first bite I thought, Thank goodness I'm all by myself and don't have to share this with anyone. If you go here I don't care what else you order, order the pita bread to go with it. The taziki sauce is very good. I dipped the bread in it, and I even took a few bites of it by itself. Very good. But even "naked" that bread will make you forget every bad thought you've ever had--Unless you don't like garlic. This thing had enough garlic to keep the entire cast of True Blood in intensive care for a month. Wonderful, wonderful, garlicky goodness. I was still in pita heaven when my beef kabob came out. It was cooked medium, just as I'd asked. The meat was very tender and flavorful. The onions and bell papers could have been a little more charred/cooked for my taste but were still quite good.
The Greek potatoes weren't what I was expecting but I really liked them. I thought they'd be little whole potatoes with "Greek seasoning" on them and them put under a broiler until they were dessicated. These were half cubed, half smushed, and in a seasoned buttery sauce. Very good and more than i could eat.
The truly surprising part of the meal was the salad. Every Greek Salad I've had has consisted of lettuce, one cherry tomato, one cube of Feta Cheese, a banana pepper, maybe some onion and some dressing. I always crumble up the Feta cube with my fork to try to spread it around the salad and get the most out of it but to really get full coverage I end up with Feta dust. And what's the deal with that banana pepper? The Greek Salad at Pappas' Grill is unlike anything I've ever had. The lettuce was there, but in nice bite size pieces, not big ol' leaves. lots of diced up tomatoes not one lonely cherry. And feta? holy crap! tons of crumbled feta cheese mixed all up in that bad boy.A friend of mine would have complained that they used a heavy hand when adding the dressing but I loved it. In a Hungry Hungry Hippo first, when I finished lunch there still a bite of beef left, still a couple bites of potato left, but that salad was history.
While I was eating I texted to a friend how much I was enjoying the garlicky pita. Garlic isn't as welcome in their kitchen as it is in mine. I got a text in reply wondering if the pastichio had garlic in it. I asked the cook/owner who had prepared my food and he said, "I put garlic in just about everything I make." Sadly, my garlic-phobic friend won't find anything to eat here. He and Bela Lugosi and can enjoy a banana pepper/cherry tomato/hunk a lettuce somewhere while I come back for more of that wonderful pita bread.
They have the best flavored gyro in birmingham
No wonder Pappas's Grill is sitting at 95% with 200+ votes (as of 7/31/13). Pappas' is nothing fancy... It's a small, "hole-in-the-wall" establishment that reminds me a lot of Crazy Cajun's or Salem's Diner - simple, no frills, great prices, but really awesome food!
This mom-and-pop stop has it going on, turning food out of the kitchen that beats the majority of higher-end Mediterranean spots in town, without breaking a sweat... If you love perfectly cooked and flavored Greek food, you'll love Pappas' Grill.
This was our first visit, so my wife and I ordered an extra plate so we could try some of the menu's variety. @Birminghamsbestlunch... Yes, the beef tenderloin kabob is a steal of deal at $10.95. For the quality and portion of the beef you actually get, no one even comes close. The grilled chicken is super-tender and seasoned. The eggplant Moussaka and Pastichio are fantastic as well, even though it is served on plastic plates w/ plastic-ware. You have to get the homemade pita bread w/ tzatziki sauce and the salad... over the top, completely.
This was one of the best dinners I've had at this price, in quite a long time... If you like bland, over-cooked food, with zero love put into it, do not go to Pappas'... you will be disappointed.
Well done... Will definitely be back as soon as possible.
My familys favorite restaurant. We have been going to Pappas' weekly for over 15 years for either lunch or dinner. The food quality is consistently very good to excellent. The Snapper and Prime Rib are especially good. Philly cheese steak wrap and chicken fingers are very good as well. My son loves their marinated chicken breast & salad. We've moved north of BHM but try to go by whenever we get close. Honey mustard sauce is the best ! Greg & Pat the Owners are the best and really work hard at providing good food. I ate there this week for my birthday- As good as ever.
The husband and wife argue all the time, but if they keep cranking out the awesome Chicken Finger basket and the one of a kind Honey Mustard, I am for sure going to keep going back
WOW. I've new been to Greece....may never get there.....but I sure like the flavor of the meals at Pappas Grill made from old world recipes.
Saw their reviews and thought I'd give it a try.
Wow...it was OUTSTANDING!
I'll go back.
Forget those chains in Birmingham and come to this place. It's authentic Mediterranean/Greek restaurant that serves fresh ingredients, wonderful owners, and service.
Forget those chain "Greek" places. My wife and I decided to eat at Pappas' Grill on a Friday night not too long ago with another couple. Let me just say, if you find yourself frequenting the Tazikis and the Zoes of the world, one trip to Pappas will show you what Greek food is supposed to be. You can tell that their menu offerings are homemade and authentic, not pre-packaged like the chains.
Since it was a Friday, I had their special which is the baked leg of lamb. It was juicy and tender and served over a bed of orzo pasta that was cooked in broth. Absolutely fantastic. My wife decided on the baked snapper. It was also to die for and came topped with baked feta cheese, onions, tomatoes and spices. On the side she had salad and their spinach and rice dish which is cooked in a tomato sauce with melted feta.
Our friends decided on the combination plate which pairs their homemade pastitso (Greek lasagna) with either a pork kabob or a grilled chicken breast. Our friend had pork which was cooked to perfection. The pastitso was delicious and had a wonderful bechamel sauce with a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon. Her husband tried the Greek style ribeye steak. It was cooked to a proper medium rare and was marinated with wonderful spices.
Overall we had a terrific experience and will be going back soon to sample other menu items. If you like Greek or mediterranean food, skip the chains and go see this fantastic mom and pop in Vestavia Hills.
This place is great. Moussaka is great. Wish they served Mythos.

I like the beef tenderloin!. When most lunches in town aproaching $10 its hard to find one worth the cash. Not at Pappas' this beef ternderloin kabab is worth the money. Have your next birthday lunch at Pappas' Grill.
Beef terderloin for lunch !. Great family run place with food made with love. I have been eating here for 15 years and the quality is unequal. Its all good, enjoy.
Solid Mediterranean. Ate here for lunch for the first time today and enjoyed the experience. Saw lots of favorites on the menu (pastitsia, moussaka and snapper almondine), but it being lunch I opted for something a little lighter. The gyro and side greek salad may not have been revolutionary, but they were exceptionally solid. I'll definitely be back, maybe for a pastitsia dinner next time.
Good food, good people, local business

This little mom and pop or Greg and Pat place is a gem. Family run and 100% Greek. My pictures today are of a Chicken Souvlaki but I keep coming back for the Beef Tenderloin Souvlaki.
Pappas’ has been a family favorite for years. We love the Greek salad and spanakopita!
Fantastic and locally owned/operated restaurant. Good food, friendly staff, good value. Definitely recommend a visit.

Kalamata dip and Reuben on pita was outstanding. Owner was very pleasant as well. He's been there 29 years!
I had their food catered for the first time and loved it. We visited recently and it was delicious. The trout almandine was amazing! We will definitely be back.
