Stamna Greek Taverna is an absolute treasure in the heart of Bloomfield's Brookdale neighborhood. Having also dined at several top Greek restaurants in North Jersey including Lithos in Livingston, Oceanos in Fair Lawn and Varca Restaurant in Ramsey, makes it more special that the best Greek restaurant is right in my own neighborhood!
Owners Alex & Angela are experienced restauranteurs, having also owned the Nevada Diner for 30+ years. Alex's vision for Stamna is the kind of comfortable, local taverna you would fine in any Greek neighborhood. The trademark of this restaurant is high quality ingredients simply prepared in generous portions at a reasonable price.
Their fish is superb. Grilled or pan-fried, the Tsipoura (Greek porgie) is my go-to entree as well as the Lavraki (imported Greek bronzino). Traditional Patates Fournou (lemon roasted potatoes) and Horta are sides not to be missed. Charcoal-grilled Paidakia (lamb chops) are juicy and tender.
On a personal note, last week I stopped by the restaurant unaware that I had just missed closing time for the kitchen. Alex happened to be entering the restaurant and asked me if I would like something to eat. Rather than keep his kitchen staff there past closing, he insisted on personally preparing something for me. I expressed appreciation for the offer, but declined. He insisted that it was no problem and as I was very hungry, I broke down and accepted his generous offer!
He proceeded to get behind the stove and prepare Tsipoura and Horta for me personally! How refreshing and what a rare treat to find a restaurant owner eager to please a customer. One could imagine an experience like this maybe in the past or in Greece today, but how rare in today's often impersonal culture. Alex and Angela are very dedicated to creating this kind of neighborhood tavern experience at Stamna and their efforts really shine through.

Visited here on a busy Friday night and the place was jammed packed. Server sat us down and had our appetizers within 15 of walking in. That’s incredible service right there. Super friendly staff, and very attentive. Picked up the grill platter for my lady and I and it was plenty of food left to take home. What more can you ask for? Good job guys, keep up the good work. �
I knew we were in for a treat when we arrived for an early Easter Dinner to find a whole lamb twirling on a spit over an open fire on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant.
We had a wonderful meal. My Arni Kokkinisto may be the best thing I've ever eaten! The restaurant was packed, but there was room to breathe and the staff moved efficiently and cheerfully through the afternoon.
As I have often said, one never needs to leave New Jersey. And it's thanks to places like Stamna Greek Teverna!
Had dinner here Saturday evening, May 12th. Our group of friends tries to have dinner here every few months. Our server, Panos, took great care of us. But we have always found both the food and service Excellent!

Always good. ALWAYS. Authentic, affordable, great atmosphere. The food, sadly, is usually better than my own. My husband prefers their lemon potatoes over mine. :) We eat there frequently and have even used their catering service, which was also awesome. I love it and highly recommend it!!!
I love Stamna! The service is wonderful, and the food is always great and consistent. I know it sounds simplistic, but the grilled Octopus is the best!
A great restaurant. The food is delicious, especially the fish. The owners and staff make you feel at home and are all wonderful!

Pretty much my favorite Greek restaurant. I drive two hours for a meal here. I have tried many of their dishes, including daily specials, and never had anything that wasn't great. Go for it.

Excellent service and delisious authentic Greek cuisine.
This is my fave restaurant!!! Their food is amazing and healthy... The service is super... Yum love it love it. I wish I could eat here everyday!

Loved the food at this restaurant. So happy to see that they have come to Lincroft, NJ. Can't wait to go.
Good but not the best. Torn between 3 and 4 stars. Gave it a 3 because the side dish (lemon potatoes) tasted better than my main dish chicken kebab.

Food:The chicken kebab flavor was good, but the chicken was so so dry, overcooked. Lemon potatoes are a must-try!

Great Greek food!. The good is delicious, the decor is nice and the servers are helpful. This place is a great place to go for lunch or dinner.
Great Greek food in a casual atmosphere. Family run. All your usual favorites are on the menu plus others that you don't want to miss like the stuffed cabbage and grilled pork chops. Taramasalata is not to be missed, one of the best anywhere. I taste the sea in that dish!

Excellent Greek Food. My family has been raving about this restaurant for the longest time, and finally took me out for dinner there recently. The food was simple, delicious and authentic, just as Greek food should be. The roasted lamb shoulder special was deliciously seasoned and very tender. The grilled octopus was a little charred, thus leaving it a little bitter tasting, but it was still quite good. The service was attentive, though a little slow at times. But the restaurant was literally packed from wall to wall, with a line formed outside, so I cannot fault the staff too much. If you are in North Jersey and want some good, Greek homestyle cooking, stop in at Stamna.
Great first experience. I've heard great things about this place and finally got around to checking it out.
First off, we received fantastic service. Our water glasses never went even close to empty through the course of our meal and we were frequently checked on by our waiter.
Our appetizer, the ktapodi, was fantastic. The octopus was not rubbery and the charcoal gave it a nice flavor and sometimes crunchy texture. I ordered a special of red snapper with onions in a tomato red wine sauce and it was, while a little heavy on the oil, well seasoned and enjoyable. My friend ordered the seafood kebab and the swordfish that was on it was amazing.
Overall, we were extremely satisfied with our meal. The service was great, the atmosphere was lovely, the meal was tasty, and the portions were large. Definitely going back again.

Im a greek im a cook too so i know when im eating good food! Everything was excellent you have to try the seafood salad!!!
Taste of home. My husband and I are from Greece and out family obviously cooks great greek food, we have tried many places in NJ and we liek this the best, good food, family run, and cheerful!!
BAD FOOD, RUBBERY & CHEWY MEAT. I would never go back to this place again to eat. super oily chicken, rubbery, chewy & flavorless lamb and not good portion size.
Instead u must try this place called 'kabab paradise'. they have almost the same dishes but the food is really really good.
Yes. I've been to this place several times (I live in the neighborhood). If you go on a Friday or Saturday night at 7:00 or later you will indeed find it crowded and loud. If you go earlier (like, for lunch or an early supper) you avoid all that. In any event the food is ALWAYS good and plentiful, and the service has always been excellent at whatever time of day I've been there. And did I mention cute waiters :)
Also I just noticed on their site that they deliver every day but Saturday so that might be an option to people who aren't into the crowded, boisterous scene of a wildly popular restaurant during peak hours.

This place is right down the road from my job, and a bunch of my coworkers and I decided to check this place out for lunch. The lunch menu is great, small and to the point. I went with the Feta stuffed chicken breast which comes with a small salad and rice as sides. The portions are HUGE!!! And the prices are make the deal even sweeter. $9 for the dish, and add $2 for a drink. So for less than $15 including tax and tip, you walk out filled to the gills in delicious food and enough leftovers to take home for dinner!
Only reason this place didn't get 5 stars is the service is a bit slow, especially is you're going for lunch. Other than that, I LOVE this place!
Great place to authentic Greek food
Awesome!!!. I'm a first generation greek and I've not only grown up eating greek all my life but I've spent many of a summer traveling all over Greece both as a kid and as an adult. This restaurant is awesome - the food is authentic and delicious - well worth the wait if there is any. Greek Delights has nothing on Stamna, by far the best in North Jersey. The staff is pleasant and always willing to help you find something you are sure to enjoy!
Good for a taste of Greek flavors. I’m not a frequent Mediterranean/Greek food diner so I’ll just provide input based on what little I’m familiar with.
First visit to their Bloomfield location though we’ve eaten at their Little Falls location. I recall this location to be much more spacious.
I wanted to try their pork chops, but though they smelled great they ended up rather dry. The juiciest Greek pork chops I’ve had still come from Ambeli in Cranford!
The fillet of branzino was pretty good, and the baklava was sweet as expected. Overall this was okay.

Love this place. Food is delicious and full of flavor. Prices are little high. Staff is friendly. It can get pretty busy. Overall it a good place.
Love Greek food? Then run, don't walk to Stamna. Consistently excellent, beautiful presentations, generous portions, (great for sharing), fresh, tasty, delicious. There is a reason why they are busy, people go where they know that the food is great, service is excellent, atmosphere is comfortable and pleasant, and prices are reasonable. Bring your own, and pick anything you like on the menu... It's all wonderful. Make sure to end with dessert!
I've been to Greece & absolutely fell in love...well..Stamna is so delicious. We did a family dinner tonight. We had amazing fresh appetizers. Grilled octopus which was so tender & seasoned with perfection, dolmas were flavorful & tasty, fried calamari was a hit especially with my 5yr old son. Very light batter. The Greek salad & homemade feta was to die for. I ordered the saganaki which I hadn't had since Greece or being stationed in Germany. Our main courses we had seafood orzo & whole branzino, the vegetable of the day was stewed okra which was good & I ordered the lambchops. I had wanted the mixes grill platter but sadly no lamb gyro. Overall amazing food great service & would without hesitation come again.
The food is very delicious and authentic. I’ve been there several times, and they were lovely. But when I ordered from home, they put a complimentary dessert. As a Mediterranean person, this little simple courtesy made me feel like I was at home and made me very happy.
If you want to eat quality Greek food and hang out in a friendly, thoughtful restaurant, you should try it!
So long since I've had Authentic Mediterranean food! So good! Service was perfect! We were a very large group and all went well.
Delicious! The moussaka is outstanding (though I don't know more than a few comparisons). The spicy feta appetizer is a favorite for me. I had a gyro platter this last time and it is plentiful and tasty. Great great service, every time. They know how to host!
Lively and fun, and the food is amazing! Seafood dishes are great, and the traditional Greek is excellent. Ample portions, altogether positive experience. BYOB. By the way, Tony is great…fast, courteous and always wanting to please (and he’s NJ born and bred). A not to be missed place.
