Michael's Uptown Cafe is a restaurant that provides consistantly, amazing food of the highest quality. I eat at the Uptown a minimum of three times a week and never find the food to be anything but excellent. However, the Uptown is so much more than a restaurant; Michael and his staff are family to all of us. They have been there for birthdays, anniversaries and celebrations of every kind and they never diasppoint. We are so fortunate to have this world class restaurant in our town. Thank you, Michael! You, your staff and your cusine are the best!
Quite simply, Bloomington's best . . . we've been eating here since they opened back in the stone age and never get tired of the place . . . among the few eateries that continue to get better over the years!
the maryland eggs (could also be named a crab cake benedict) was so very good as were the michael's fried potatoes (i had them add pepperocinis to kick them up a notch). my sister gave me a taste of her malted belgum waffle and i could have eaten it all. comfortable resturant (and great bar area) with wonderful good offerings!!
My wife and I had an awesome dining experience. You cannot go wrong with the menu choices, and I doubt that you will find a more diverse offering of quality wine poured by the glass than at Michael’s Uptown.
Special thanks to Sarah who graciously answered all of our culinary questions while off duty having dinner at the bar. What a wonderful representative of this establishment.
This place is fantastic. The service was excellent . Tevin was very knowledgeable about the food and made some fantastic suggestions. Not your average every day dishes. We had polenta covered with goat cheese and a mild red sauce. Amazing foods. Hubby had the black bean chili which came with sour cream and tortilla chips. Spectacular. One of our new favorite places to eat .
We came for breakfast a few months back and it was amazing ! Everything was delicious so we decided to go back for lunch.....highly recommend this restaurant!!! Great service and outstanding food!
Bloomington's best Cajun Food and Adult bar. Consistent food and excellent service.
We are fortunate, in Bloomington, to have many good restaurants and "Uptown" has to be consistently at the top level. Congenial atmosphere, excellent wait staff, perfectly cooked and beautifully served meals. Who could ask for more?
It's been a long time since I've visited the Uptown Cafe. The atmosphere was awesome and inviting and the staff worked effortlessly to provide great memories. Thank you for providing the best back drop for our get together.
Averagely average. It was good, okay, but nothing really stood out to me. Not the service, nor the atmosphere, not the food. I feel like the front of house staff could’ve had more smiles all throughout. It make a big difference. My appetizers were mid. Although I ordered the chicken Alfredo and it was easily one of the best I’ve ever had.
Let me start by saying that my server was incredibly professional and sweet. I wish I remembered her name. I sat in the bar area, which was lively and fun. I ordered the fried morel appetizer and it was good! I'm not a huge fried person but I enjoyed tasting morels, probably for the first time. I also ordered the mulligatawny soup and it was absolutely delicious. My only complaint is that they massively overcharged me for my cocktail. $12 for martini, a $4 up charge for Gray Goose, and a $1 charge for stuffed olives!? I'm wondering what my $12 martini got me? Other than that, great experience.
Great place. Food was good. Service was very good. Had the Syrian lentil soup, ribeye steak and lemon berry cake. Expect to pay approximately $50 person easily. Parking was difficult.

Not sure whether to give this restaurant a 3 or 4- Started with the SHRIMP & CALAMARI FRITTI- which was good (3.5 out of 5). House bread with special butter was very good and the House Salad was…. A salad :). Nothing special- not out of the ordinary. For main course I had the GORGONZOLA FILET MIGNON with broccoli - which was outstanding! This steak melted in your mouth and the Gorgonzola cheese crust was simply wonderful. (6 out of 5!) Highly recommend. My husband had the ribeye with greens- again, back to nothing special, and actually kind of chewy. (2.5 out of 5)
When reservations were made, it asked us if this was a special occasion- I marked ’yes’ as we were celebrating my husbands 56th birthday. There was no mention of his birthday at any time during our service and while paying our bill, we heard the waitress mention to the table next to us that they were getting a free dessert as it was her birthday. (Maybe an oversight?)
The waitress was wonderful and we left a nice tip- however, not sure we’ll return unless it specifically for that one steak!
Great meal! The shrimp and grits were delicious. There is a large menu with many options that all sound good. With good food and nice staff I definitely recommend eating here!
We had a private party here for a birthday. The atmosphere was welcoming and the food was pretty good. A place to check out if you're in the Bloomington area.

Second visit to Bloomington and I am ready to declare Uptown Cafe as the restaurant where we’ve enjoyed our favorite meal.
Since I was not smart enough to make a reservation, we had an 80 minute wait for a table for three, but it was worth it. I’ll just remember to make a reservation next tine.
The service was outstanding - our waiter Michael was helpful, made recommendations and made our dining experience that much more enjoyable.
The seafood gumbo was excellent- it’s a large portion and had plenty of seafood. The peppercorn medallions were cooked a perfect medium rare (as requested) and the steak and sauce were so good. Also had mash with it which was rich and creamy.
Next time I need to save room for the limoncello cake.
