Review Black Board Bar B Q - Boerne

Kimberly Nerf
Very friendly staff and the best Texas BBQ we've had to date. We'll be back for the ribs and sausage for sure! Advise that you call in and reserve your order BEFORE you go. Black Board is popular and gets very busy, so they can and will run out of food. We reserved two days prior.

I have eaten out here several times and it is always excellent, and the people there are very friendly. Today I saw them post they had banana bread biscuit bread pudding. Well, the temptation of banana bread pudding was more than I could handle. So I went to BlackBoard Bar B Q for dinner. The chicken fried steak is spot on, and the smoked gravy is life altering. I never pass on the Mac and Cheese here. I had to get the bread pudding to go. Also, don't forget the burnt ends. It is definitely worth the drive!

Came for lunch on a Friday. The staff were all very friendly, and there were lots of options for outdoor seating. After placing your order, the staff brought the food to your seat, which felt fancier than your average BBQ joint. The food itself was good, but not BBQ I would need to have again. Chicken had a nice, smokey flavor. I always look forward to sides, and ordered the mac and cheese -- the flavor was good, but was surprised to find meat (ham?) pieces mixed in among the noodles and sauce. There wasn't any apparent indicator that the mac and cheese wouldn't be vegetarian, so anyone with dietary preferences or restrictions should ask when ordering just to be safe. If you're already in the area, it's a good option for BBQ.

We stopped in on our way back from visiting the wine country and very happy we did! We wanted everything on the menu but ordered the brisket, burnt ends, ribs, Asian slaw, and cobbler. The brisket melted in our mouth and the burnt ends were moist and flavorful. The ribs were bland compared to the three selections it was our least favorite. The Asian slaw was fresh and crispy, made with oil not mayonnaise and cilantro which I loved! The cobbler with almond cream was excellent!! The “outhouse” was fantastic, better than any bathroom I’ve visited in my 60+ years of dining out! Kudos!

Best BBQ and best staff! I chose to stop at this place based off of simple criteria which usually leads to good BBQ - 1. Off the beaten path. 2. Not too fancy looking and certainly not a restaurant chain. 3. You can see the smoker in action. 4. Lots of cars... Almost anywhere if it meets most of these requirements it'll be good BBQ. What I didn't know was that I stopped at a famous BBQ joint in the middle of nowhere! I can tell you its camps for a reason! Best brisket I've ever had, potatoes are out of this world, and the BBQ sauce is the actual finger licking good stuff! To top it all off the staff are simply the kindest, most helpful and fun anywhere! In particular we were helped by a Kristen (or some close variation of that as I am the worst with names) and she went above and beyond to show hospitality as I was searching the menu. If anyone ever stumbles across this place as I did, Stop! If you know of this place and are trying to decide if it's worth the drive, it is! Quick summary come hungry and leave stuffed with the best BBQ ever, with a side of hospitality!

Y’all come get it! 😋 The atmosphere is quaint and relaxing. Genuine, country Bbq, literally everything you order is amazing! Sweet, savory, salty and spicy. The staff is fun and welcoming! Take the extra 5 minutes and get out to it!

Me and my wife drive for food! We saw this place on YouTube & just had to try it out!! It did not let us down in anyway! Jake the owner was absolutely awesome, he gave us wonderful suggestions on foods/drinks that paired well with each other. Everything from the brisket, venison sausage with homemade mustard, and wild boar sausage were the best we ever had! Christie one of the servers was an absolute delight and very helpful and informative. The ambience was spot on & went perfectly with the down-home country style smoked barbecue! We also had an array of their desserts, the blackberry/peach cobbler was worth the drive by itself! This place is without a doubt “ OUT OF BOUNDS” awesome!! It is definitely worth the drive no matter where you’re coming from.

The wagyu brisket was among the best brisket I have ever eaten. Great job on the pork loin sausage too. All in all, worth the short drive from Boerne. Will definitely be back

How can you not love this place. Owners are the best...the ambiance out in the country is mind blowing and you cannot beat the food and their live music for this time of the year. You won’t regret coming here. I’d like to say that their BBQ is the best but once the owner teases you with that strawberry cheesecake cobbler.....it’s hard to judge at that point. Simple fact: worth the trip and time for an afternoon out in this beautiful country restaurant.

One of the most unpleasant dining experiences I’ve ever had. No organization, no planning. Second busiest dining day of the year and they run out of food in an hour? Every table had to wait an hour or more to be served, emphasis seemed to be on to go orders. We had made reservations but we weren’t told we had to preorder. When finally served an hour and a half later, we were given a 1/2 lb. of brisket, 1 sausage , 4 ribs , over fried quail, a small side of slaw and mac and cheese for 4 adults? Food wasn’t hot, not offered any condiments, and never saw a waitress again. Granted the co-owner comped our “meal”, I didn’t drive over an hour for a free meal. After all the “rave reviews “, I was expecting a fabulous Fathers Day meal. Very disappointed, don’t think I’ll try it again.

First of what will be many times. Had the ribs and were great tender and great flavor. The chips were out of this world Dad got the angus brisket and was fantastic smoky and so moist and tender could barely get it on a fork. Thank you for the great dinner and service/ hospitality. We will definitely be back.

If ever you are in need of a true Texas BBQ venue for a special event, look no further than Sisterdale’s BlackBoard BarBQ. Jake Gandolfo and Jo Irizarry did a fantastic job for our son’s rehearsal dinner. They were on point for every detail. The food was top notch and was a tasty combo of the best BBQ brisket, ribs, chicken and sausage, paired with awesome sides. The wine was local - shout out to Saint Tryphon Farm and Vineyards! The decor was polished and festive. And a special Thank You to Jake Martin for providing music for the event. He is a talented singer/songwriter from the area. I can’t say enough about how special the evening was and it kicked off a wonderful wedding weekend for Mike Panozzo and Alyssa Alleyn and their families and friends.

This place is definitely worth the trip. I should know, I came all the way from Connecticut! Everything was great! Awesome brisket, catfish, sausage, ribs, slaw, quail, and corn dodgers. That’s all I tried and I give it all two thumbs up!

BlackBoard BBQ is more like going to someone's home for a meal than a restaurant. Our server Jo was extremely hospitable and attentive. Six of us arrived around 4:30 and were immediately told they were out of mac and cheese and ribs. After ordering brisket, burnt ends, Asian slaw, Texas taters, and Lukenbach lollipops, I know why they run out of items. To say everything was delicious is an understatement. After deciding to share a slice of homemade carrot cake, Jo brought us a strawberry cheesecake cobbler, because she wanted our opinion of it. Both were like something mom would make. To top it off, the Lone Star was ice ice cold and the scenery is great. We will definitely be back.

This place is a must. Stop searching or waiting in lines...just get here! Your order has to include: Brisket, ribs, sausage eaten with the mac and cheese , Texas lollipops, corn dodgers with the candied jalapeños and finish with the bread pudding. The people are amazing and make extraordinary food. A true gem! Once we digest, we are going back.

Absolutely LOVED this place. The food is ahhmazing!!!! Best ribs & brisket you can get. I do have to say the Luckenbach lollipops are by far the best thing I have EVER had in my life. The sauce to dip them in is oh so good!! For me to like something like "Quail" you know it must be AWESOME!!! If your afraid to try it, don't be!!! It's kind of like chicken wings but WAY better!!! My girlfriends daughter swears the Mac & Cheese is the best Mac & Cheese she has ever had. SOOOO good!!!! The desserts are awesome too!!! Everything seems to be made fresh daily and the menu can change I heard. So get there early before it's all gone! I'm jealous as my husband is in Texas this week and will be dropping by tomorrow to check it out! I may have to add to this review after his experience. If you get a chance to meet the owners you are one of the lucky ones! Jake is seriously a "Masterchef" and you cannot go wrong checking this place out! Lots of love in his cooking! Only the best at BlackBoard Bar B Q :-)

Proof that good things can be out of the way. We went here (#BlackBoardBarBQ) on a whim and oh boy are we glad we did. We got a pound of Texas Wagyu (Beef) and Luckenbach Lollipops (Quail) and they were AMAZING!!! The Wagyu was fall apart tender and the char on it was to die for, the Lollipops were the only game bird that wasn't dry and volumpuously juicy (Louis' words). This place alone is a reason to visit Texas. Black Board is own by Jake who came out to fix the communal guitar Louie picked up to play. He was warm and welcoming and has a knack for making you feel like he's known you forever. Very cool meeting the man who not only cooked our food but created it as well. Also pretty neat meeting a finalist on Master Chef and a man who was on Beat Bobby Flay.

We love this place & everything about it!!!!! The food is so delicious, my favorite night is Thursday catfish night. Fried to perfection & never fishy. Make sure you call ahead on Thursday nights they do run out. As much as I love the food, I love the people. Joe and her staff are over the top accommodating & make sure your dining experience is one to remember.
