Overall a very pleasant experience. The diner atmosphere was very charming & our waitress was very polite and attentive. Love the blue and white design of the place. Prices are a bit high for breakfast, but decent for the area. Chocolate milk was amazing! And the coffee was great. Only disappointed with the sausage on the breakfast sandwich as it was a very small link cut in half, was expecting a full size patty it also appeared to be like a chicken sausage or something. Other than that a great experience.

On my first trip to Boston, I wanted to go to a real diner. We arrived when they weren't busy at all. Came right in, sat right down, and the service was great.
The food was excellent ( I MAY have missed the "double" on my cheeseburger order but I regret nothing), and a generous portion.

For our breakfast before heading to Portland, Maine, we went to @southstreetdiner. It's close to the bus station. It was packed inside and thankfully they had seating outside for us.
Dad had Lemonade and shared The Diner's Special with hubby. It included pancakes, eggs, ham, and home fries. I was thrilled to see Frappe on the menu, so I tried a strawberry one. That was so filling and a meal in itself.
Definitely stop in early since it's not a huge place. It's had a long history, established in 1947 and is open 24/7.

Stopped at the South Street Diner due to having seen it on the Today Show a few weeks ago for thie Boston Cream pancakes...it was a party of 9 of us. One of the bunch of us ended up ordering the BC pancakes...they were quite a treat and very dessert like, and oh so good!! I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich. It was very good, the only thing missing was the raspberry preserves...but it was on point and delicious. It came with diced potatoes which were very good, but a tad salty, but still good. One had the club sandwich and a Texas burger and the rest ordered breakfasts and two grilled cheese sandwiches. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Three got chocolate frappes, those were the bomb! I highly recommend you try one! Our server was super friendly, helpful, and prepped some of the drinks, including the frappes. I didn't catch his name, but he had ear plugs and tattoos. Super cool dude. Another shout out to the chef, thank you for your cooking skills. I highly suggest you give South Street a try. Next time I'm in Boston, I definitely will.

Great retro vibe. I had a greek chicken wrap. Everything was good except the pickle which was not salty. The waitress was honest in her recommendations. They had an excellent vegan menu for my vegan friend.

Cute corner diner for a quick tasty bite . Everything was well seasoned and the fries are delicious! Nice server ! Good pricing on menu items that won’t break you travel budget . Worth a try .

Firstly the service was so nice ; especially our waiter for the ten mins waiting for the food . So the burger was okay French fries were good .but the pickle was the best I had in a long time . Also the lemonade was the best I ever tasted in years considering I drink it everywhere . Would recommend the diner before or after travels for fresh quick food . Will be back again .The salad was good ;just need Roman lettuces . Very good portions for price was full .

American style breakfast with very nice varieties.
I have chosen the diner special which was too big and tasty. Their lobster white is very unique and worth trying.

Nice little 24 hour dinner serving all day breakfast. Staff were pretty chill, food came out quick and was pretty good. Can't go wrong with their 🥞. Oh ya, ther sell beer and wine too surprisingly, so if you're there before 1 am and want to have a night cap have at it man.

This place is the REAL DEAL. I got the meat lover’s rojas chilaquiles. This is very tough to beat; most chilaquiles you get at restaurants are inferior!
The head cook was great; I made sure to tell him how phenomenal his chilaquiles were.
Our server was great and the French toast was also awesome.
Great value, great service, great venue!

South Street Diner, Is a small (5 booth if I counted correctly) diner, VERY close quarters. It’s a classic time capsule, the food was very standard wasn’t necessarily extraordinary,.
I order an omelet and home fries, the omelette was smaller in portion and the home fries were many but on the dry and tart side of things, ( my toast didn’t make it into the plate 🫣)
Servers was very nice and considerate. A modest 4 start spot.
Parallel street parking if you can find it

The waitstaff was SO kind and friendly . The food was normal, good diner food, nothing crazy. I was hungry and left satisfied with my meal. Leanne (I can not remember her name for the life of me) was so kind and went above and beyond to help us feel comfortable

As a tourist this Diner was fantastic, highly recommended. The Boston cream pancakes were amazing, service was great! I would definitely visit again a short walk from the station and close to the Boston tea party boat!

A true diner experience. I had the Greek omelet which was very interesting and had good flavor. Definitely recommend the cinnamon roll which was huge. They slice it on half and grill it.

If you want to have a nostalgic experience in Diner car eatery, this is your destination. The food is cooked to order, Michelle of S. Boston is a sweetheart of a server, & the whole 'tiny Pullman car' experience is an era gone by. I'm so glad that they're still in operation after all these decades later. A Boston landmark, one shouldn't over-look. Hope they'll be in business for more years to come.

Great little diner. Food was good and a huge portion for the price. The restaurant has a cool vibe and a unique atmosphere. I would definitely come here again

We had breakfast here on Friday, April19, the morning that the manhunt in Boston for the marathon bombing suspects heated up. It was a perfect place to be. The food was what we'd hoped for, and the atmosphere was perfect for connecting with local community and watching the news. My hubbie had eggs, bacon, and potatoes, chased by pancakes. I had the breakfast burrito with chili and potatoes on the side. "Pure American" breakfast is what he said. I agree. The SSD did not disappoint! Coffee was hot and plentiful -- no Starbucks in sight and just what we were after. Also, the wifi was great and free. I wonder if it would be really busy and less relaxed on a day when the city wasn't under the "shelter in place" request. Today, though, we felt welcome and as though we could have stayed as long as we wanted.

This place had not very good service (at least at this time) but the food was awesome!

Quiet evening. Needed a place to sit and have a quiet beer, watch the game, right place, right time

Rude service, long wait for food that wasn't worth the wait.

Open 7x24 in Boston!. One of the very few restaurants in the 'city' of Boston that is open 24 hours. Simple diner food, greasy, uncomplicated, but its open. Considering that most establishments close up around 10pm, this is quite an achievement. Great place to stumble into after a night out clubbing or a late show or whatever. There are a few places with late hours in Chinatown they are not 24 hours.

Went to Boston recently. Had a hankering for great diner food. Our bartender the night before told us about this place. Love the look and vibe. Staff more than friendly. You can tell be the presentation that the cook enjoys his job. The food was good not fantastic. But I would go back the experience.

Greasy and dirty. (review dated 1/08):
too bad i wasn't intoxicated enough to not be able to tell the difference. went there only bcoz that's like the only place on the planet that's open at wee hours (sad thing is, we drove all the way into the city to find only this place open).

wasn't too satisfied w/the whole experience: from greasy table to lack of service to sloppy food... well, i guess there's always a trade-off.
:)

This is such a great place. It's exactly as I imagine a 50's diner to be like. Great food, great service. You have to go!

AWESOME. Wow this place is sooo cool. If you are looking for food and any hour this is the place togo. They are open 24/7. Man the food is great and so is the atmosphere. I love the food. They serve classic dishes around the clock. From breakfast, lunch and dinner. I love their burgers very much. I love how they have a bouncer at night too haha.

That said, I rather like the place. The prices are decent, the staff was very friendly (if somewhat odd), and the food was quite good.

Two breakfast restaurants owned and operated by the same family - the brother owns South Street Diner and the sister owns North Street Grille . I learned this while eating breakfast at South Street Diner (pictured) on Saturday morning while chatting it up
