I don’t know if my wife and I have ever been so impressed with a restaurant experience. This place has some of the most creative and best-tasting food options I’ve seen. We went here over a month ago and still talk about how good of an experience this was..
Very wide variety of vegan and vegetarian food. They also have a few meat options. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very comfortable and laid-back with friendly staff. Judging by the amount of people who came in after me, this place is very popular. I came for the chicken liver sandwich, which had a lot of flavor and different elements to it. I could tell that this was a well thought out sandwich. Unfortunately, I really couldn’t taste the chicken liver, which was the main draw for me, so I was disappointed. I also tried the butternut squash and brown rice soup. It was a pretty basic butternut squash soup, not a lot of flavor though.
I am a 13yo google local guide, Owner of Bike Repair Plus, soon to be food blogger of Burlington, and DJ for hire. And a local lover of all things Burlington. And I don't take food lightly as its one of the best parts of this amazing little city.
If you want to step aside from all the crazy, upscale eatery around you, and descend to an amazing, home cooked meal that tastes just like mom used to make it, then look no further! Stone Soup has been my favorite, walk in casual eatery for years on end! Wouldn't recommenced as a romantic trip, but its a nice and clean space if you would like to have a meal with your family or kids there! The staff are jolly, local, middle-aged folks who will be more than happy to introduce you to the many upon many, lovely hot bars piled high with home cooked goodness! All of their food is sourced locally whenever possible and I highly recommend everything they ever produce! Thirsty and dont want a sugary soda, but to bored to drink water? Ask for the curiosity iced tea, and you wont be disappointed. Its been a favorite of mine since I was 5!
I wish I had photos of the food instead of the wood work in the tables and counter top and the work in the bathroom, but the attention to detail in the restaurant comes through everywhere from the “windowpanes” in the counters that are reclaimed from elsewhere in the building to the butterflies in the counter to the beautiful bathroom floors, everything has its place and the entire restaurant is immaculately clean.
But about the food - at least I have the memories. It was DELICIOUS. Felt like I was at an old friends house for a homemade lunch. After a week of traveling i appreciated how healthful and nourishing the food was. I loved the chopped mushroom soup, the carrot hummus, and everything I put on my plate from the hot buffet. I wish I had saved room for dessert, but I am going to return for another cup of their outstanding coffee and a breakfast pastry for the road before I leave town.
Burlington definitely has a very solid collection of really good restaurants, but more than the other places I visited during our two night visit to town I most enjoyed the city (town?) through the Stone Soup experience.
We have been coming here since my daughter’s freshman year at UVM. It has been amazing each and every time. The food is amazing along with the super friendly staff. Great vegan and meat options from the menu, the hot self-service bar and there is always a delicious daily special. Great selections of deserts, breads fresh brewed iced teas and, of course, soups. Without a doubt one of our favorite places to eat anywhere. We highly suggest that you take our word and enjoy a delicious meal if you are in the area. You’ll be happy you did!
Super high quality, fresh, and mainly vegetarian/vegan food. This place has been open a long time and for good reason, it's really delicious and tasty. Prices are a little high but so is the quality and flavor so you get what you pay for.
Love this place. Great food, great ambiance, friendly owner and staff.
amazing food and the nicest staff! made our trip to Burlington memorable.
