Wow.. wow wow.. fantastic food, I had the tempura, the veggies dumplings, the sushi, all were prepared PERFECTLY, & it showed.. care was taken, I ate at the bar, Chelsea was on point, knowledgeable, professional, & easy on the eyes... a 5star experience...thank you Chelsea, & bravo

Outstanding establishment. Food, drink and ambiance get 5 stars and two thumbs up from 'this' reviewer. A fine addition to Carlsbad Village! The decor is sleek, modern and elegantly soothing, boasting an atmosphere of cheerful (and many loyal) patrons. Staff and management have a keen eye for perfection... never skipping a beat. Belly up to the cocktail bar, robata bar, sushi bar or a table for your dining adventure. Get ready for a unique edible experience. Late dining also available... quite a treat for our quaint seaside village. I started the evening with Blue Ocean's signature Moscow Mule (my first ever) The handcrafted copper mug full of heaven was recommended by Chris, the GM, who treated me like royalty. That ignited an evening of culinary excellence and dining satisfaction. Thank you Chris and Blue Ocean staff! My lovely server Carrie (spelling?) recommended a little combo of sushi and robata. The meal began with their popular Tsunami Roll... Maguro (tuna) wrapped on the outside with Tempura Shrimp and other delights inside. YUM. Then came the robata grilled salmon on skewers with secret sauce and bacon wrapped asparagus. Euphoric! Curious to try Blue Ocean's Nigiri selections, I also ordered the Maguro and Unagi (eel) sushi. Delightfully generous portions, fresh, tender, savory and perfectly prepared. I probably didn't need the extra Nigiri indulgence, as I left absolutely stuffed with a 'to go' box... but happy. Reservations highly recommended for tables, robata and sushi bar seating. This is a very hip and happening spot. Kind of loud but in that modern fun way... adding to the positive 'Happy to be here' environment. Complimentary valet parking available. Kampai! (from my Yelp review)

What a treat! We stumbled upon this place for lunch a few weeks back while visiting Oceanside. The Sushi was outstanding!!!! Super fresh and tasted like the ocean. We enjoyed the Tsunami Roll with Yellowtail, Toro with fresh Wasabi, Tempura Vegetables, the Yellowtail Crudo and assorted Sashimi Our young chef was fantastic as well. Sadly, I do not recall his name.

First dinner at Bllue Ocean and it was spectacular 10/10 !!! Started off with Tomato Coconut Bisque (this was really and incredible soup presented in a tea jar and poured over the shrimp, rice and basil) with the Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio as and appetizer with garlic edamame. At night they fire up the Robata grill which is a real treat, we enjoyed Pork Belly, Filet with pineapple, baby zucchini and Asparagus .... OMG this was really great. The flavors are seared into the meats which provide a tremendous taste. Main course was their French Kiss, Hotty Hotty Roll, Albacore delight which frankly was more for than we could even eat .... this is hands down one of the best sushi experience we have ever enjoyed !!! For dessert we tried the chocolate fondue for two, this was an assortment of fresh fruit with dark chocolate dipping sauce. For drinks I tried the Tau Cedar Sake (fabulous), Hot Pot Collins (very different drink with a ton of spice) and a glass of 2011 Cultivar Cabernet ..... They say drink like a fish on their bar menu which I did =) The manager Chris made sure everything flowed smoothly and provided insight as to what to order using the Robata. Suprising great japanese food in this little town. Defiinetly will come back here again with my family. We really enjoy the sushi and robata very much.
