I am a Carlsbad resident and if your after Fish and Chips this is your place!! The deep fried zucchini is to die for. Finally, even though very very busy, the staff was great!!

Awesome place and service
We were looking for a restaurant that overlooked the ocean, oddly enough there aren't many in Carlsbad. But Harbor Fish Cafe fit the bill. Super friendly staff. We split a combo plate for lunch and it was more than enough. Two large pieces of fish and two jumbo shrimp with fries. We thoroughly enjoyed it. One cautionary thought, drink refills are not free.

Love this place! Definitely one of our regular spots in Carlsbad. Ocean views, great service and good food. The grilled fish taco is huge!
The servers are extremely friendly and easy going the clam chowder is some of the best I've ever had all the food is amazingly fresh amazing views with an overall relaxing atmosphere great place to share with friends and family
I have always gone here for their clam chowder. I have never found a place better than theirs. I also tried their fish tacos and they were delicious. I been going to this place for about 20 years.
Fish and chips are excellant. Great view of the ocean. Great place to watch the sun set. Oh, yeah, the beer is super good, too!
The BEST fish tacos ever!! I love to bring my friends and family here to experience the delicious Clam Chowder & fresh fish. They have a dog friendly patio and the service is really good.

Great lunch and location. Had the Thursday special, fish n' chips. One of us had it with fries the other with clam chowder. The batter was thin and crispy, not soggy. Food was served fresh and hot. Service was great!

Decent Food, Great View. It's hard to beat the location this place has. It sits practically on the edge of the cliff overlooking the beach. You have a great view of the ocean as well as the human & vehicular traffic down Carlsbad Blvd.
Food here is simple and good. Clam strips are not overcooked or too greasy-drippy, but taste light & flavorful. Their cocktail sauce seemed too much like ketchup, but their tartar sauce was light & tasty. Off their catch-of-the-day menu, the grilled swordfish in garlic & butter was very flavorful and perhaps a touch overdone, but not so that you'd mind. It was paired with a mixed green salad and a cup of clam chowder that was piping hot and delicious. A slice of toasted & buttered sourdough rounded out the plate.
The fish taco is impressively large - stick with one unless you're *really* hungry. The fish looked great - fried to golden perfection without overdoing it. Unfortunately, there was so much other stuff wrapped up with it, I couldn't taste it. Easing back on the sauce quantity would be a big help to allow the flavor of the fish to come out more.
Finally, their bread is disappointing. I love a good chewy or crusty bit of sourdough with my seafood. Their version of this is Texas-toast style slices that are perfectly grilled, but are complete air-bread. No real texture or challenge to them. There's a slight sourdough taste, but none of the denseness that makes it such a wonderful pairing with seafood.
The children's menu is very limited and focuses on non-seafood alternatives. Smart by and large I'm sure, but it would have been nice to have had some other options for the kids.
Picnic by the beach. Paper plates, and a simple menu make this seaside dive a great place to get something fishy.
I had the macadamia nut crusted grilled swordfish and side salad. The fish was tasty, but the macadamia nuts were slightly burnt. ( although, I had no prelims eating every last bite. )
No free refills on tea or sodas, and they don't take AmEx. Even with that, This cafe is not a bad stop.

Fish and chips batter was light and flaky. Fries were standard frozen fare. Chowder was watery but nice and "seafood". Price was $17 for 3 pieces & $7 for a large clam chowder. Thumbs up.
Simple fare with great views. If you want great views and simple, but excellent, food this is the place. Would go back again.

Good food!. This restaurant is right at the water, is very casual, inexpensive and good. A favorite among locals and tourists alike.
If you want good food and a great view don’t miss out on this place. I had the grilled fish taco 🌮 and it was excellent & huge! They’re French fries are also very good and the service is also good and friendly. All seating is outside under a covered patio, there aren’t a lot of tables but it is worth the wait. I’ve also had a cheeseburger here and it was also very good and juicy. It’s right next to a little park that overlooks the ocean where lots of people go at night to watch the beautiful sunset.

Thank you for answering the phone on New years eve to let us know that you where open and you would wait for us. They closed at 6 that night but even 20 min before closing they took in people who walked up asking I'd they where open.
The place has a view of the ocean on one side - was to cold to sit on that side and dark. But also has a side where the wind won't bother.
Best part is the delicious food they serve 😋.
I has a grilled fish with a spicy coleslaw and just that made my day. The other was a fried fish taco my son ate. And a fried fish and shrimp plate. All items included fries.

Harbor Fish Cafe never fails to maintain its status as. one of our local favorites for any occasion. Today’s meal was an anniversary lunch celebration and a walk along the beach. Service is always friendly and they even offer to bring water for your dog if you bring one. Food is delicious and even tastier in this ideal California coastal resort town.
This place is amazing! I was told that I would love it and I definitely did. First off, the atmosphere of this place is perfect. It's right on the water, just enough open air to have a sea breeze and still feel clean. Has a beach house vibe. Second, the benches were bouncy. Not really a super big deal but a fun thing that I enjoyed. The service was phenomenal. We were seated right away and they were very fast with every other step of the process. We also had another server named Lana come up and just talk with us, she was so friendly and helped us feel welcome. And now for the food. At first I thought it was a little pricey, but the amount of food that you get is enormous. We got the fish and chips and it was almost falling off the plate! I really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back. Thank you for the great experience Harbor Fish Cafe!
Beautiful views and fantastic food! We went here twice during our trip for fish tacos. Both times we split one giant fish taco and the pile of French fries that came with it. The tacos were absolutely delicious. Was a wonderful environment eating them outside by the ocean and the service was friendly and timely.
The fish was crispy on the outside, flakey on the inside. The fries have a great seasoning on them. The service was quick and pleasant. The view of the ocean was lovely.

The fish and chips are yummy. The fish taco was good but not spicy. Flavorful tartar sauce and coleslaw. The people are really nice and my view was the Pacific Ocean. 💗Covered patio dining - two clean bathrooms and best price for water bottles.
There’s parking behind restaurant and also a nice walk either up high at street level or down below at sea level to walk off those calories.
Definitely would go again!

We went to Harbor Fish Cafe after spending some time at Carlsbad Beach. My husband and I enjoyed having fish and chips. My daughter had shrimp and fish and her sister just wanted a side of fries.
