When it comes to pushing certain item from PRC's menu as the best thing to order, it would be impossible not to recommend the smothered pronto burrito. The smothered pronto is a large burrito that anyone can personalize to satisfy their taste buds. The smothered pronto can have bacon,sausage or both added to the 3 large fluffy eggs stuffed inside a large flour tortilla. As if that weren't enough you can have the pronto smothered in red or green chile, in mild medium, or hot, then topped with a mound of melted cheese. The smothered pronto is definitely the best breakfast item you can get in the southwest period!!!
This has been my favorite place for breakfast or lunch since I lived in Carlsbad, some complain it is noisy, but it is noisy because it is packed with people eating. I know all the wait stall, I moved back to ohio last year and here in town for a few days and the first place to go was Pecos River Cafe, The girls not only rememberrd me but remembered my order to the letter, My wife was not with me this visit but the even remembered her favorite, I have nothing but good to say about this place.

I took my daughter to treat her as a belated birthday meal. Our food was excellent, although the dip was on the spicy side. Service was very good and fast.
We were so excited to come back after a long absence. We planned our stop well in advance to enjoy one of their giant cinnamon rolls and their amazing green chili. We were just passing through Carlsbad but will head to Pecos River Cafe as soon as we can! �

My friends and I stopped into this fine establishment on our way back to Texas. It had good reviews and the pictures of the food looked fantastic. So we walked in expecting some good food at the very least. We didn't expect the stellar service and the amazing speed to come with the delicious food. The pancakes smelled wonderful, the eggs perfectly cooked and the ham on my plate was incredible. As we ate we noticed that the entire staff was helping us, we never saw the same server twice, everyone was attentive and kind. It almost reminded me of watching a pit crew in Nascar. I would highly recommend the Pecos River Cafe. The service was some of the best I have had in a long time and the breakfast did not disappoint.
I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! The food has been consistently delicious for years! Staff is ready to serve & the meals come out so quick. The atmosphere is welcoming and clean. Ive never had a bad time when eating here.
I usually get the Tuna Melt and a soup on the side. You won't get a better Tuna Melt anywhere else. I have eaten the Tomato Basil & the Broccoli & Cheddar soups. Both hit the spot. If you want quality food and excellent service, definitely give this a try! 🥰👍👍👍❤❤❤
Quaint little cafe in the heart of Carlsbad. I ordered the basics. 2 scrambled eggs, 2 sausage links, 2 pancakes, hashbrowns, coffee and ice water. Great service and short wait time. The food was good but my only complaint there was the sausage links. I prefer Jimmy Dean-style sausage links and theirs were the spongy kind you would expect at a hotel continental breakfast. The price was a bit steep IMO but I guess we know who to thank for that. All in all a good experience.
Had great first time experience here. Staff and Manager attentiveness exceeded my expectations. Had the breakfast quesadilla with chips and red salsa. I didnt realize how big it was gonna be ( can feed 2 people). I ordered a cinnamon roll ( before I got my order) and I was offered butter on top. Oh boy, it was delicious. Great atmosphere and will definitely be back again.

Cons:
(1) Burger patty is pretty flavorless
(2) Fries are flavorless and squishy (they aren’t cooked with salt)
(3) The green chiles aren’t flavorful -just sorta squishy and warm
(4) That cinnamon roll is drowning in butter - so much that much of it wasn’t melted but just soft
This place really hit the spot on our drive through New Mexico. The breakfast burrito was huge and tasted phenomenal. The service was great, with frequent stops by the table to refill coffee. It’s going to be hard for me to go back soon, but next time I’m even close I’ll be sure to stop.

They were very attentive, quick service, & they work hard to make sure all is well...
I had the cream of wheat..which was excellent... excellent coffee...
It was busy, none the less it was not overwhelming with sounds or smells ..
I really enjoyed the relaxing environment while I ate My breakfast, & even though they were quick to give a check, & cash ME out...I did not feel rushed...
