The Farmers breakfast, 2 eggs, whole wheat toast, country potatoes, and bacon. The eggs cooked well and the potatoes were crispy and flaky which I really like. Nothing fancy just breakfast.
Excellent Breakfast. The Chef here knows what he is doing when it comes to food. Very tasty, interesting, and unique specials that you wouldn't get at other breakfast spots. The service is very consistent, and the decor is wonderful. Outside seating is wonderful. Always busy on Saturday/Sunday which is a good sign.
Great burgers, overpriced fish. This is a favorite place of ours, and is popular here in Carmel. We love their burgers, and their ice cream is also great. Three of my college aged boys were in town yesterday, so we stopped in for lunch. I ordered the tilapia sandwich and was very disappointed. For a $15 sandwich, it was underwhelming. Stick with the burgers here.
Went there for the first time today, and loved it. My server Tyler was very knowledgeable about the entire menu friendly, and kept my glass full of Iced Coffee. He went out of his way to make my dining experience much better. Definitely showed me why Bub's is one of the best things to hit Carmel.
Regulars. Very much enjoy this spot. The food is very tasty and of high quality. My wife and I visit just about weekly and always look forward to their unique and seasonal specials. The service there is always very welcoming and polite. You definitely get the sense that the staff really enjoy working there. Parking can get kinda funky, especially on the weekends around breakfast time.
Great food, unique environment. If you have the chance to dine here, by all means ORDER OFF THE WHITE SHEET!!! There is no reason to wait half hour to have bacon and eggs. But the Chef's specials are worth the wait. Breakfast in Burma, California Scramble, Root Vegetable Hash, Creme Brule French Toast, Eggs Bene... THEY ALL ARE WORTH TRYING. I love this place and can't wait to try something different every time I go.
There's no place like Bub's (Cafe). I am new to Carmel and just happened upon this wonderful little place. The staff is so friendly and the food is beyond awesome. Not to mention, the atmosphere. There is no breakfast place around that even compares. Where else can you go sit in an old house and have a great meal without being at your mom and dads?? Where else can you go where the staff breaks out into song (mid rush) and everyone is always having fun? There is no place like Bub's. I love this place!
Yum. Good food, lots of creative and reasonably priced specials that rotate frequently. The chef does a very nice job and the standard breakfast/lunch menu is pretty enjoyable, too. Cool location and quirky atmosphere, definitely a nice place to either have a quick meal or sit and enjoy a few beverages in the early summer afternoon. Only complaint is that a few of the servers are pretty awesome, a few of the other servers seem to be a bit greener and lack urgency/people skills. But overall, can't complain. Highly recommend.
Destination Breakfast Spot. This cafe is NOT in the same place as Bub's burgers, which is quite different in menu, service, and atmosphere. This cafe is breakfast-centric, in the best way possible.
This place serves elk sausage, which is fantastic and great for weight-watchers! And the omlettes are so well-cooked, as are the eggs. Fantastic Breakfast in Burma!
Awesome food, awesome decor and awesome staff. We live 2 hours south and the drive is worth it. The Red Flannel Hash is not to be missed.
Good food and service. A small group from the office went here with me on a Wednesday morning. We shared an order of 6 Bub holes (doughnut holes) as a breakfast appetizer. The holes are HUGE and made to order, so they come out piping hot and dripping with goodness in the form of glaze or cinnamon-sugar. The waiter was friendly and quick with the refills on coffee. Our orders were taken right when we were ready and the food came out from the kitchen prompty and just as we ordered it. I had an egg white omelette with ham, white cheddar, and mushrooms. It was very large and I ended up taking half with me. The location was a bit hard to find, but I would definitely recommend this place as a good spot for breakfast in Carmel.
Good local hang out for breakfast or lunch. Donuts are crazy good, rest of the menu is pretty average.
Great place for a first date. Discovered this gem riding my bike on the Monon. Ended up selecting for a first date and turned out to be great selection. Outdoors, great service, and food. The quiche is delicious, several selections of hot tea, basic breakfast is equally nice. Donuts are their specialty but a bit heavy and rich so try 3 before ordering more. Hard to finish more than 1 if you order any other food. Fruit bowl is fresh and nice addition to any order.
Soooo good!. We tried Bub's on a whim and it was fantastic! My husband and I both picked out meals from the specials and were not disappointed. I had the Breakfast in Burma consisting of an omelette with peppers, onions and tandoori topped with cheddar, salsa and a sriracha cream served with a side of lentils and a tortilla. My husband had a chocolate creme brulee french toast topped with whipped cream and strawberries that was decadent to say the least. We ended our meal with the donut holes made in house. Overall, excellent food, pretty good, service and a very cute atmosphere. We will definitely be back and bringing friends.
Donuts?. Umm...the donuts? I could probably eat them day and night and not get sick of them. They are so so so so so so so good. Actually, everything that we ordered has been amazing. It's quaint and fun, and worth the wait if you get there when they're busy!
Just down the trail from the original Bub's the cafe is a great place for those breakfast foods we still crave at lunch
Hard to find? Yes, unless you're a local. But then again, I know many locals who can't get there any other way than the monon. If you can find it, it's totally worth your time! Set in an old home, just like Bub's, it's quaint and colorfull. The portions are large and reasonably priced. I recomend the pineapple upside down pancake! The staff there at Bub's cafe are even nice enough to provide a unique service when waiting for your table. If it's cold or rainy out, and you'd rather wait in your car, they can call your cell phone when your table is ready!
Peachy!. I swung by for a late breakfast this week (about 9am) and was pleased to find the place neither empty nor packed. I was seated promptly and served surprisingly fresh OJ when I ordered.
I had the special of the day- cranberry granola pancakes- and they were awesome. At about 8" wide and 3/8" thick, one was just enough to complement the side of eggs and toast and fill me up for a long day on the job site. I noticed the bread for the toast was a good quality artisan bread, not your cheap grocery store wheat stuff. It was a comfortable amount of food for less than $10. For the guys, I ordered a half-dozen of the "Bub's Holes"- large donut-hole-like confections. To my surprise, they are made fresh to order. They smelled and tasted fantastic, and I took note that you can call ahead and order a dozen for pickup whenever.
The place overall was very colorful and bright with an eclectic mix of chairs and tables. Tasteful music (light, non-"elevator" jazz) was at an appropriate level, loud enough I could recognize the tune, soft enough I could sit and work without distraction. They have an outdoor area that looks nice and well-maintained.
I enjoyed the service- Jamie was very relaxed and attentive, even when things got busier. I watched another waitress take a truly ridiculous substitution order with grace- extra kudos to the service staff. The few regulars were easy to pick out, so I would guess the service and food is consistent from day to day.
If it wouldn't throw off the aesthetics, I would really love to see a bar/counter in there to make a little more diner-style. I'll definitely be going back the next time I'm in Carmel, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
...of course, dad requested Bub’s for breakfast. He had dined there a few times and it is now a staple of their visits. He loves the concept of taking a home and turning it into a restaurant
For those unfamiliar with these two Monon icons, Bub’s Cafe and Bub’s Burgers are owned by the same people (no way, get out!). Bub’s Cafe specializes in breakfast and lunch while Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream specializes in burgers and ice cream. Bub’s Cafe
I went all-in on the menu: a burger, sweet potato waffles, coleslaw and a large vanilla milkshake.
I was very full at the end. The burger was delicious. The service was excellent on our table of 8. We sat outside, under the roof, on the fresh air.
We could see the local people and area. It was excellent.
The beef patties and chicken are seasoned perfectly, making for a great burger or grilled chicken sandwich. The sloppy waffle fries were great as a side topped with cheese sauce and bacon bits. I got a chocolate peanut butter shake with cookie dough and it was happily devoured before receiving my meal. Everything is a la carte. Highly recommend coming here for great quality food and friendly service.
Bub's has good burgers. Thicker and meatier than most burgers. Buns are substantial to uphold the burger and toppings. Eating area is all outside/open area. Sits right on the walkway/bike path. Great for people watching.
Cool hole-in-the-wall burger joint vibe. The service was very slow and forgetful, yet very nice. We almost left however, I'm glad we didn't. We only had the second from the smallest burger and probably one of the best I ever had.
I loved the atmosphere. It was busy. We didn't have a server to come and check on us/ follow up, but It was explained before we sat down. Overall, I would definitely go back. The food was good.
Right on the Monon Trail so you can exercise those burgers and ice cream treats off if you wish! Bubs is famous for the Big Ugly burger - which is a full one-pound burger. I was not up for that and chose the Settle For Less Ugly burger at a quarter pound. You have your choice of beef or Elk burgers. I chose Elk and found it leaner than beef with a very similar flavor. It was delicious- smash burger style with a buttered toasted bun, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and mayo (on the side). We also ordered a side of waffle fries, and they were cooked crispy, which is how I prefer them. I do not enjoy soggy, wimpy fries. As it was my friends birthday, we ordered a chocolate milk shake and a scoop of mint chocolate ice cream. High quality and delicious. Our server Tobias was very good, responsive and helpful. We enjoyed sitting out on the terrace and watching the world go by on the Monon.
Parking can be difficult in this part of downtown Carmel, so it is a bonus that Bubs has its own dedicated parking lot.
This place is the exact same as it was when I was in High School, 20 years ago, just double the price now. If you’re really craving a good, American, burger… this is the place… but that’s about it.
Our table enjoyed competing the Big Ugly challenge. Enormous burgers that didn’t fall short on taste. I ordered the creole Big Ugly and absolutely loved the seasoning and Chipotle Mayo. Our table also shared and enjoyed the sloppy waffle fries.
After our food was served, our server lost track of us. We flagged them down twice without getting a check the first time, after unsuccessfully sending another employee to find them. When the check came they didn’t offer to take our Big Ugly picture and needed to ask if that was still part of Bub’s experience.
Overall tasty burger with absent service at the end that distracted from the experience.
They have a challenge to eat the big ugly burger which my whole family have done but it's not just a gimmick place the food is amazing! One of the best burgers you'll find
Great food. I believe they were understaffed the second time we visited here and the waitress missed an item on our order and took one of our mugs for a refill and never returned until she was reminded. The Elk burger was delicious as were the cheesy fries with bacon and jalapenos. I could have easily put away the 1 pound, but walking around in the heat with a belly full of meat didn't seem to be a wise choice.
They also have ice cream in a separate place and it's not bad at all.
This place is a lot better than I expected. The food is amazing and cooked very well. I will say this place is a must try. The Elk burger is a must try. We ordered the chili which was in itself a meal. I would definitely be coming back. I highly recommend this place.
Had the not so ugly burger. It was good and well seasoned. The Buns are good and they are soft. Sides are all separate. Fries are good. They do have a challenge but the burger is $26. If you eat it you get your picture on the wall. If you want a copy of the picture it's a dollar. I would go again. But it is very pricey! Parking is terrible. There are no vegetarian options. The kids meals are almost $10 each!
Man that pound burger was crazy! 😅 It was a lot of fun for sure. I kept looking at the pictures on the wall and thinking: how can someone eat 2 or 3 of these burgers. Couldn’t have a 5⭐️ experience because they didn’t have paper to print my 4x6 picture and hang it on the wall. Advice if you are trying the challenge is to get sweet tea or any other sweet drink because if the burger is 1 pound, then they add like another pound of salt to it 🤣.
Great burger place, happy and cordial staff and a simple menu! Next time I’m going to try to put away the “Big Ugly” burger that weighs in at a pound cooked! You even get your picture on the wall! Man vs. Food here I come!
Me and my family really enjoyed dining here for dinner. Also, customer service was great 👍🏾
Yum. Good stuff. You may want to check out the portion sizes on the way in. Examples are in the cooler as you walk in. If you are brave, you can go with the Big Ugly. If you finish the beast, you'll get your picture on the wall.
I went with the Elk and a side of small sloppy fries. Both were excellent.
Carmel location has better options. I always go for the settle for less ugly elk burger cooked medium. I am never disappointed. Creole sauce is a great partner to the burger. Would highly recommend.
