Just had a wonderful meal! The food was excellent and so was the service. This will definitely be one of my new favorites. It is quaint and romantic.
A Precious Elegant European Gem!. Romantic, charming, delicious dishes, wonderful ambiance, and the owner/chef is a sweetheart. A Carmel treasure to experience, if you love to dine.
My favorite dish from the 3 course fixed price menu ($29.00) is the Parisian Butternut salad...
The duck and cheesecake were great. Atmosphere is nice and has a genuine French bistro touch. Our waiter was fantastic. However - my experience in France is that each portion is brought out more leisurely and the menu is more typically broken into smaller courses. Though there were clearly many very happy regulars , I found the experience of the evening feeling a bit rushed. You will enjoy the food and service and have a nice evening - but you might not feel like you are reliving your last trip to the French countryside.
Wonderful experience. Service was prompt and efficient but not overbearing. Wine menu is extensive. The food taste and presentation was excellent. The starter was escargot , tender and tasty, next was a blue cheese stuffed fig wrapped in prosciutto. The main as perfectly cooked beef Wellington and a equally delicious scalloped on a bed of risotto. Desert a cheese cake with a lemon zest topping. Not overly sweet or tart and a wonderful accompaniment to the wine. A must try when in Carmel or Monterey.
Wonderful staff and service. They were warm and lighthearted. We had a lovely table outside with our dog with a heat tower. The meal was phenomenal. The rabbit pasta was one of the best meals I've ever had, including in France, and the Beef Wellington was perfect. We can't wait to come back!
We had the most delicious dishes Saturday in Carmel. First I started off with the mussels, frog legs, mushroom stuffed escargot, and escargot in the shells! Yummy. My favorites. Then my son got the beef wellington, which was divine, and I got the rack of Lamb! Just exquisite. Prices were a little high for the area I felt, and compared to other really high end restaurants I've visited, but everything was spot on and we enjoyed our meal. Thank you.
Escargot in the shell is a must for escargot lovers! :) Beef Wellington special was perfectly done and the restaurant has a great selection of Red Burgundy wines to go alone. Trio of creme brûlée was a nice finishing touch. This is a splurge, special occasion place!
Best food I've had in Carmel. They made an amazing Beef Wellington. Bravo!
Absolutely great experience - one of the best French restaurants I've had in a while. We ordered 2 appetizer, escargot and two daily specials (beef wellington and dover sole). All of them are perfectly cooked and served (except for beef wellington, which they cooked the first one too well done, but changed to a perfectly cooked one after we asked). I would also give 10 stars to the dover sole - the fillet is super tender, but beefy (I know it's a weird description) and balancedly seasoned. Would definitely recommend this place!
The food was amazing and our server Sean was the perfect host. It was a birthday dinner and I loved every bite. Thank you to the chef and our server Sean.
Just amazing. The chef owns the place and cooks every meal himself, I heard. Sure tasted like it. So terrific. We had some pate, some white bean soup, entrees and possibly the creamiest, tastiest cheesecake a guy has ever eaten. Terrific service, as well. Picture attached of the dover sole.

L'Escargot was a very pleasant surprise, making up for several disappointing but high-end Monterey Peninsula dinners. The setting is pleasant and quiet, the server very nice and efficient, and -- ah! -- the dinner:
- a lovingly flavor'd Romaine vinaigrette;
- an unusually tasty soup a la oignon;
- my partner's individual Beef Wellington was perfectly prepared and presented and the second best we've ever had;
- the Duckling Two Ways? Beyond perfect, THE best I've ever tasted in 77 years!
- great-Grandma's cheesecake? Really really good: not too rich, VERY creamy.
So, why only a 4-star? Well, first, it's really 4-1/2! I have given 5 stars to only 6 restaurants on Earth in my fortunately long life. L'Escargot's chef is a traditionalist, so not inventive -- but he is still outstanding. You will be glad to have tried his offerings.
Delicious! We stopped here for dinner and everything was amazing. We dined outside (brought our dog with us) and loved everything we tried.
We started with mussels with chorizo, and a side of pomme fries, at our hosts recommendation.
For a main course we had the beef wellington and scallops in a lemon asparagus risotto. Everything was perfect, and we even were quite comfortable outdoors at night with the heaters they have set up.
We'll definitely be back!
The service was amazing! The vibe and cute little patio was great too. The only reason why I gave the food 4 stars instead of 5 is because I was disappointed with the beef wellington. It seems to be a favorite, but in my opinion was brand. BUT I had an amazing artichoke soup, diver scallops were INCREDIABLE, and I loved dessert. Overall best resteraunt in Carmel. The chef puts so muxh love into his food.
🦮Dog friendly (outside sitting). Unique place to taste French dishes.
Quaint place for outdoor dining. Stuffed mushroom escargot, duckling prepared two ways, & beef wellington (special for d day) are all highly recommended. Service was great!!!
One of the best places in Carmel. Really a great restaurant with a great wine list and really great kitchen. Would come back again.
