Greg DeGood is a wonderful, knowledgeable employee. He knows all the goodies and recommends what is available!
Soup , hot cocoa, great bakery atmosphere! A definite place to go everyday!
Flat Stanley was visiting us from Sherman Oaks, CA, so I had to take him to Sykora’s Bakery for a fresh cherry kolach. It’s a Cedar Rapids treasure since 1903!
Was SOOOO good and an awesome establishment.....great visit with owner and staff there!
Love this place! The owner is so nice! Great food and desserts!
Great place to stop and get some kolaches, just like the ones my great-grandma used to make!
Just go there. Keep going there and try something new each time. I promise you'll love it. They serve lunch, too!!
How many 100+ year old bakeries have you been to?
Always fresh and delicious! Always a friendly face behind the counter.
If you are in or near CR, make a point to go to Czech Village and this community anchor. You will enjoy great colaches in an authentic bakery run by dedicated people. Go now.
Always amazing and such nice people. Been coming here for years and will continue
My husband and I finally decided to explore the Czech Village after living in the city for a little over a year. We were shocked to see places open on a Sunday, but we were glad to stubble upon Sykora Bakery. We had never tried a kolach before. AMAZING is an understatement. We bought homemade bread, which won't last long this week. The bakers were very knowledgeable and talked about the way the delicious kolach is made. The bakers were also inviting and very nice! We can't wait to keep exploring other parts of the Village in the future. Thank you, Sykora Bakery! We will be back very soon!
I dutifully report that this bakery is excellent. You can have the best Czech baked products and save on the airfare you'd have to dole out from your hard-earned money to fly over the Big Puddle in search of such delights. (Hmm. $1,500 divided by the cost of one Bohemian Burger ... How many would that be, Mrs. Sykora?) I have to admit, though, that I miss the transmission belt-driven ceiling fans, but I realize that even an old soldier like me has to accept the reality of new technology. Long live the Emperor, Franz Josef! We will win this war!
Very nice pastries and awesome bread! Love my visits to the bakery!
The sweetest owner and delicious treats! We love coming here!
Business that's been around for over 100 years. Items are baked fresh daily! Have to try the "Bohemian" hamburger (poppyseed on a sweet roll)... it's awesome!
Lot of history in this building. See the refurbished oven front on display. Has doors that were used to add wood and coal to fires for baking before gas was made available. May 2022.

My Mother made kolaches when I was a kid. I was born in Cedar Rapids but now live in Fort Lauderdale. I visited Cedar Rapids to see family and knew I wanted to go to Czech Village in search of Kolaches. My Aunt knew exactly where to go, Sykora. We arrived and saw they were in the middle of a renovation. We were greeted and of course I knew exactly what I wanted a blueberry Kolache. My Aunt got a raspberry coconut bar. I was transported back to Mom's kitchen. Mission accomplished. Sykora has more than Kolaches, and it all looked delicious. You wont be disappointed.
I love this place. Great prices for quality Czech baked goods. I used to come here every Wednesday after school, before work, always a great selection, always chill, always worth it.
It’s never super busy when I’m here so it has a nice ambiance. This is the place to go for a great Czech bakery experience. A living legend of Cedar Rapids.
100 year old bakery that stays true to their Czech kolache recipe. During the (non covid) summers, the owner says that he sells out 120 of dozens (sets of 12) of the kolaches on a Saturday! And I can see why. The kolache's filling wasn't too sweet, the dough was light, soft, and fluffy.
Lots of unique filling too (about 10). There's blackberry, strawberry, pear, key lime, cherry, pineapple, apricot and so on.
The current owner, John, was also a very friendly guy! He's owned the business for 20 years, and during the slow New Years Eve morning, he came to sit and talked with us. Knew a lot, history and world culture too.
Really lovely guy and great food and snack options! Also cheap! The spread was less than $15!
He even gave us some pastries for free as it was our first time visiting 😭❤️🤗
Would drop by again if I'm ever passing by.

A must visit for anyone in the area, tourist and local alike! I grew up coming here with my grandma and happily share the tradition with my kids anytime we come to Cedar Rapids
