Made the 143 mile drive from Arlington today to give them a try. Glad we did. I've eaten at every BBQ restaurant in Memphis and Southhaven,MS over the past twenty-five years and Papa KayJoes BBQ is the best I've had.
Outstanding service, low prices and a just a really nice place make this a BBQ restaurant you need to try.
Can’t really explain what’s so great about this place bc it’s everything: the food, the owners (the family), the ambiance / restaurants cool decorative style and nice options... could throw some fish on there tho too �
Papa KayJoes has the best barbecue in all of TN!!! Their staff is beyond friendly and they go above and beyond!!! My parents were in town from Michigan and we were celebrating their 52nd anniversary and the staff made them feel extremely special!!! Highly recommended!!!!
Heavenly burger. Holy heck! Had the Papa burger and love every bit of its deliciousness. Good sear on the .5 lb burger, fresh cheese, tons of pulled pork, cheese, and bacon. Didn't even touch my fries - not b/c they weren't good, just too focused on the burger. I also think I ate too many of the free peanuts. Can't beat that for six bucks!!!
Best BBQ this side of the Mississippi river!. This BBQ is the best you will ever have! I eat at Papa Kayjoe's every chance I get. They have the very best sweet tea, BBQ, and BBQ beans. They also have the best homemade sauces to put on your sandwich. Another favorite of mine is the grilled cheeseburger although its really hard not to order the large BBQ pork with BBQ beans. I really wish I could get some BBQ mailed to me on a weekly basis since I no longer live close! Its definitely worth the drive no matter how far you live! YUM!
Unique, Interesting, Fun Eating. Set up on the hill.... creative little bar-b-que eating joint. Nostalgic decor. Lots of locals eat here. Eat up at the antique counter or in the small dining area.... or they have fast take out.
Super sweet southern ice tea. Good tasting bbq they smoke themselves outback. Southern cornbread, beans, slaw and most of the time homemade pie.
I saw a write up on them in Garden and Gun magazine..... and we have eaten here many times. good food, good experience
Pig on the Hill. Have driven by or under this joint many times and finally was able to stop. Glad I did, pit smoked goodness. Papa Kayjoes has the necessary earmarks to attract my attention - pile of Hickory - smoke house/pit outback - odd assortment of vehicles in the parking lot - and an air of "barbecueness"
The pork was sweet, smoky, tender - didn't need sauce (though I tried the Mild , the Hot, and the Sweet - all good). I ate the Southern Way Special - a bargain at $5.99 - corn cakes (hoe cakes) with a mound of barbecue and white beans (or Baked beans). The corn cakes were excellent, the Barbecue sublime and the white beans (with a slice of onion) topped it off nicely. Papa Kayjoes a keeper.
Food is awesome. The staff is very friendly and awesome. The place was clean.
Fast friendly service and delicious food!! Banana pudding and blackberry cobbler were delicious.
The ribs are so fantastic!!! Such a great environment.
We are out for a ride on our Motorcycles today. We like to ride on the Natchez Trace Parkway and Papa KayJoe’s was the excuse today.
We have never been to Papa Joe’s previously.
The pulled pork sandwich was one of the best I have ever had. And they don’t go light on the portions. My husband had the brisket. And the smoked flavor was awesome.
And I have NEVER had potato salad that good! I don’t know how thy make their, but they don’t need to change a thing. I also had the baked beans and loved them.
And they make sweet tea just like mama. If you don’t taste the sugar, it’s not sweet tea.
When I think BBQ, I’ll think Papa KayJoe’s.

Tried the loaded chicken potato, which was good. $10 for potato and drink. Husband enjoyed the pork potato.
One of the best BBQ places I have been to. Top 3 for me for sure. Worth the drive. Very smoky delicious pulled pork. Perfect fried green tomatoes. And the sauces are some of the best and most unique I have had.
