Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! The best tostada I have ever eaten.
We ate at the Train Station a few days ago the food was wonderful! Tacos, burrito, horchata everything was great ! A month ago our little granddaughters First birthday party was catered from here and everyone loved it!!
You guys, the food at Maize is 100% authentic! I always get the steak torta ahogada! Spicy but amazing!
We were in town for a game and came across this little place on Trip Advisor. Am glad we went! Great food, great service!
I was extremely happy to know you guys more to a bigger place. The food is outstanding and the environment is not a cliché. I love the white plates and presentation. It represents Mexico in a better way. ¡Enhorabuena!
Best Mexican food ever .... The staff is very friendly and the owner is really nice too. Definitely a must when you visit U of I
This is hands down the best Mexican food I have ever had. Better than Mexico or Texas
Ran into Daniel Radcliffe in here the other day. Great guy, took pictures with me and my whole family. He said something funny too, we all laughed. Didn't try the food, but 5 star experience! Can't wait to go back!
A-maize-ing food, drinks, times and people! Sooo delicious! Officially addicted!
This place is in downtown Urbana, which might explain why it's a bit crowded. They have only two regular parking spots available. Inside, it's quite compact, but they've cleverly utilized a wall table that surrounds the main room. Instead of booths, they have bar stools. The water they served was lukewarm and without ice. However, what stands out the most is the fantastic food. I ordered the Mega Tlacoya, and it was unlike anything I've ever tasted at a Mexican restaurant. It's generously topped with cilantro. Despite some drawbacks, the excellent food makes it worth a visit overall.
The food and service here was great. Marisol helped us and was very nice! The chicharron Gordita was exceptional! The horchata slushy is so unique and very good.
The food here is always SO good! Chorizo Tacos, Chorizo Queso Fundito, the horchata! Amazing.
It’s a really tiny location so expect to eat outside or take it to go entirely. That being said, let’s go a little bit more in depth.
Service was friendly and fast. Waited less than 5 minutes for 10 steak tacos, all fully topped in cilantro and onions.
The tacos tasted amazing—they were cooked perfectly and the tortillas were fresh. Every taco order also comes with complimentary chips and salsa.
Will be back for sure.
Got the: steak burrito, steak torta, and chicken burrito.
They have a creamy salsa they serve with their chips that was so good!
Service was fast, food was good, and it was reasonably priced.
The inside of the restaurant only has bar tops to sit in so it can fill up quick!
Maize, let me tell you, this little joint has managed to maintain its quality even after 9 years. Impressive, folks! And when it comes to guacamole, nobody beats Maize. Believe me, it's the tastiest in the neighborhood, hands down.
Now, here's the deal—limited seating. So, if you're looking for a cozy dine-in experience, this might not be the place. But hey, here's a tip: Maize is perfect for takeout. Grab your food and enjoy it in the comfort of your own home.
Now, let's talk about the price. Gotta be honest, it's a bit on the higher side for a small town restaurant. But hey, quality comes at a price, right?
All in all, despite the price, I highly recommend Maize. The flavors are on point, the guacamole is top-notch, and they've been serving it up for 9 years. That says something, folks. Give it a shot, and you won't be disappointed. Trust me!
They offer delicious and authentic Mexican food and it’s one of the only places that make their tortillas in house and you can really tell the difference. Service was friendly and the place had a nice ambiance. Highly recommend.

I have drove many-a-miles along Illinois and one thing is for certain, Maize Mexican Grill is the best Mexican food in the entire state.
Whether you have decent parking in the middle of summer looking to impress your sweetie with the best in the Midwest.
Or
you’re just trying to enjoy a break from the pumpkin spice latte and college hooliganism, you stop and have the best damn Mexican food you don’t deserve….Maize…
The beacon of light no one deserves, but it’s here and it’s here for us to enjoy god damnit. Don’t squalor! Life is short and you need to reward yourself with the best! You passed your final exam?
Maize is there to reward you.
You get ghosted and it ain’t even Halloween? BAM! Maize is always there on Green Street. For you.
There’s a lot of things you may forget between the partying and crunch time for exams. Maize Mexican Grill won’t be one of them.
The vegetarian options are great. Vegetarian dishes offer niche options like zucchini blossoms and corn mushroom, which taste amazing and quite different from what most other Mexican places offer.
The food here is ridiculously good. I always get tacos - the tortillas are fresh and that makes all the difference. I've gotten a variety and loved all but the chicken (it was good, but not nearly as flavorful as the others I've tried). Very few seats, and it gets crowded. If you want to dine in, hope you get lucky.
This is an excellent restaurant. The food comes out quickly and is excellently made. The Mexican cuisine is familiar but original enough; avoiding the familiarity trap. Then there's the fact that it tastes excellent.
Be forewarned, the restaurant is in transition right now. I didn't knock off a star because technically when I went it was a "soft open". The are transitioning from a takeout style of dining to a full-on sit-down experience.
Thus we waited in line to enter the place because we had to order before we sat down. Also, they did not have a soda fountain yet (they told me it's coming May 24th, '17.)
Other than the growing pains, the food and service are excellent and the meals come out lightning-fast.
Surprising little restaurant with excellent food at great prices near campus. Lots of students getting food to go. Very small seating and parking area, but has a second location.
