A lot of the food at Mama Kim's seems to be geared toward College of Charleston students such as the hibachi and cheap sushi rolls, but when you get into the Korean side of the menu you will be pleasantly surprised. I have been here many times and am never disappointed by the assortment of bulgogis. My favorite being the spicy pork bulgogi. It is incredibly flavorful and about as authentic as you can get in South Carolina. It comes with an assortment of little Korean sides that you are meant to incorporate in your meal.
Over priced but yummy. You do get large portions but honestly not large enough for the price. The food is always fresh and delicious though!
Excellent! No frills. Step to counter order and they'll bring it to you. Hustling kitchen staff it was a Friday night and they were getting many call ins for take out and dining room was steady and still didn't have a long wait. Saw delivery boy leave with 2 boxes of to go orders. Popular place
Mama Kim's food is amazing. Some people say she is grouchy but when I met her she was lively. She is a very nice lady. Their chicken teriyaki bowl is to die for. Absolutely delicious!
Delivery was quick. The delivery fee is kinda lame. Amazing Japanese food, yes, munchies satisfied.
Great Family. Mama Kim's has great food. They are really nice people and are family owned. Mama's has the best location
My wife is Korean and we ate the Haemul Tang for two. Or seafood soup for two. We thought it was excellent and the Kimchi was incredible.
We Love Mama. We love Mama Kim's. In addition to Mama being a nice lady on her own, her food is wonderful! It's perfect for a college budget, and you get a good quantity of quality food. My favorites are the Chicken bowl and the veggie eggrolls, though they also have good udon noodles and (reasonably priced) sushi. Definitely check it out!
It's nice to have a Kim's downtown option for getting our Korean food fix.
Great for hibachi style on the go. Kim will treat you like her family even if she has never met you.
Such good teriyaki chicken and fried rice! Pricey, but I had leftovers so may be worth it if you look at it that way. The service was pretty quick and they brought the food out to you. It was a very nice experience overall even though it may not look like much on the inside.
I love this place! I always seem to end up downtown on a Monday (they are closed Monday’s) but when I do come and they are open, they are my first choice. I always get the ginger salad. The dressing is so good and I always get bibimbap.
Got the jjampong and the japchae and both were good (the jjampong came with tons of seafood, felt like great value). Dinner portions were huge, (my photo isn't great but the bowl was like 6-8 inches deep as well, my leftovers filled up a quart). Banchan tasted like it was made in house also. Place is very hole in the wall but cute news clippings/photos on display.
I had my favorite soup at Mama Kim's, sundubu jjigae. It was absolute perfection. The local is no frills but the staff is very nice and the food is served fast. I cannot wait to return to Charleston to eat here again.
This restaurant had the best tasting Korean and Japanese food I have ever tasted.
If you like Korean food this place is the real deal. Food comes quick, portions are good size, and the staff are friendly.
Food was authentic korean food. Very tasty.
Service was great. Food price is a bit pricy due to the touristy location, but it was acceptable price.
However, interior needs some attention or refresh.
We got the dinner for 2 and it came with a bunch of incredible food. The variety and flavor were both phenomenal. It came with fried dumplings, 6 samplings of Korean side dishes, one of which was kimchi, japchae (a stir fry of noodles and vegetables), two bowls of rice, and a platter with 3 meats: marinated beef, chicken, and spicy pork. The kimchi was some of the best I’ve had in a while. I’d like to say which meat was my favorite of the three, but it’s difficult. The beef had a sweet flavor and fell apart in my mouth. The spicy pork had a great level of spice. The chicken was tender and succulent because they used thigh meat. The japchae was possibly the best I’ve had in the US; it was pretty sweet but really good. The staff were helpful and kind. We would definitely eat here again if the opportunity presented itself. I would have added a photo, but we had it halfway destroyed before we even thought to take one.
Had a great time at Mama Kim’s. After spending 3 years in Korea I know good Korea food when I taste it! If you are looking for authentic Korean dishes I definitely recommend Mama Kim’s!
We came here for dinner one night while on our honeymoon. The food was phenomenal and so was the service! The lady at the register gave us a pancake with some filling along with a handmade sign congratulating us which was very unexpected but very delicious!
The best Korean around. I love love love their pickled radish, and wish they would sell jars lol! So delicious, staff is so friendly, and just a great lil spot to grab lunch.
So my wifey wanted to go on a date with me. We decided to head downtown and walk around. It's started to get late and we were hungry. We didn't want the regular fast food or pizza. As we were walking on the sidewalk on Calhoun St. The amazing aroma filled our sense of smell. We looked at each other without saying a word and smiled! We caught the aroma again as a customer walked out the door with a smile. The staff was happy, helpful and engaging. Mama Kim's staff went right to work making our food with no hesitation. Let me tell you.. the rice was fresh!! The steak was tender and cooked to perfection. My wife's food came out hot, fresh, and perfect as well. Hands down, the cook knows what he's down back there. I give will continue to come back to Mama Kim's. Your staff was unbelievable happy and helpful. Your preparation of meats had no issues. Again, your rice was on point and not dried out. From my family to yours Mama Kim's.... We love ya and we will be back as soon as possible!!!
