We’ve been twice, once when they first opened and again this past weekend. Both times were consistently great. The bar is comfortable and bartenders friendly and attentive. Always a good whiskey sour. Dinner was wonderful. Dining room is large but not loud. The menu is creative and food was great. Online reservations were easy and assured an on time table. We are excited to have an upscale treat in south charlotte.

We were just there for our anniversary and Josie took great care of us. Being that it was our first visit, she gave us the history of the restaurant, had awesome recommendations for both food and drink and was just a lovely server. The food and drinks were amazing and made our anniversary memorable. Would highly recommend to anyone!

From the greeting walking in the door, we felt welcomed and taken care of! The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Try the veal chop, words can't describe the flavor, simply WOW!!

This place exceeded my expectations. My husband and I split the 9 ounce filet and it was definitely enough for both of us. The filet was like butter when being cut and tasted amazing. Our very attentive waitress brought us out 4 difference steak sauces to experiment with although the horseradish cream sauce was my favorite. My husband likes the bernaise the best. My gin and tonic was wonderful. My husband really liked his margarita. The steaks come a la carte so I ordered the mushrooms and he ordered the potatoes au gratin and we both shared and had more than enough left over. That seemed like the route to go for us. Restaurant had a great vibe and wasn’t stuffy. We will definitely be back very soon!

Ordered the salmon hubby ordered the ribeye 🥩 Both were entrees which came with potatoes 🥔 and risotto! Price was mid range! Better than buying ala carte! Food was good! We split a wedge salad 🥗 delicious!😋 I would go back again!

The vibe here is comfortable in an upscale kinda way. Example is that we had on jeans and one of us even had on a hat (females) and when we arrived we asked if it was ok... the hostess was like well sure it’s ok! Next up the service is exactly what you would expect... attentive and very sincere. The food... oh my goodness the food... so so so delicious! We had tuna tartare for an appetizer and it melts in your mouth! Out entrees were the steak and tuna both cooked to perfection! Simply an all around wonderful experience to celebrate our anniversary! Oh and you have to get the cheesecake! Made each day by the owners Mom!

The food was really good. The ambiance was wonderful. The service was top teir. I ordered the spare ribs and babyyyyy tender is an understatement. They were really good. The potatoes were amazing. Crab cakes AMAZING. My friends ordered the filet mignon, sautéed shrimp, the halibut fish, bone in pork chops, collard greens, Mac and cheese(no lobster) and a Cesar salad and they thought everything was good on their end as well. Iappreciate the option for valet parking as well. I'd definately come back. Thanks for a job well done❤️

Like any and all Rare Roots restaurant we visit this was five stars all around. We love to go out for a fancy dinner for occasions but hate when the food falls short of the price...that's never a concern with Rare Roots and proven true again at The Porter House, from hostess to John Dresslers himself, the service and atmosphere is a family experience that can't be replicated. The food, we had the pimento cheese beignets and they were excellent, I would say they are more of a fritter but the flavor was fantastic! My wife and I shared the shared porter House Steak which was cooked perfectly and the paired sauces were outstanding. I saw other reviews about a lack of seasoning but in my experience nothing beats a good salt and peppering on a fine steak and that's what you find here, the tender velvet feel of the steak is in my opinion how you know a steak is good. Finish off with any of "Mom's" desserts and your night is complete! Loved it!

Nearly perfect dinner spot. Thought it would be way more expensive than it was. It was not cheap but it wasn't as bad of a bill as I thought. No sticker shock when it came. Might be the only stake house that I would trust with blue rare. And one of the only in the Charlotte area that even knew what that means, and would do it. Cheese cake is crazy good if you have the room. $50 off wine Wednesday is great! And the staff is by far on par with the extremely high quality food. Couldn't have asked for better food or service. The atmosphere was a bit lacking and very noisy, like a cafeteria. Which can be appeal, I enjoy watching chefs cook but when waiter can't hear you order it can be frustrating. And when your date can't hear you talking so you have to yell across the table it can take away from the date night. That being said, they even have a solution for that with private room dinning for FREE!?! Just need to reserve even earlier than a normal spot. Highly suggest

The food was fantastic! Everyone in our party got the fillet and it was cooked perfectly and delicious. In fact, it was the best steak I’ve had in years. I got it with their herb butter and it was amazing. The service was exceptional. I had a request for an accommodation for one of my guests and the manager and waiter couldn’t have been nicer. They really went above and beyond! We will be back for sure.

A nice restaurant that is close by to where I live. I really enjoy the low light atmosphere and the decor that is here. The music that plays is subtle and does not take away from the eating experience. The food here is great; every time we go here we enjoy it, the service, and the experience. I would recommend the 8oz Wagyu Flat-Iron Steak as it has a great mix of vegetables and steak, the steak was quite soft and has a great amount of flavor. This time we had a server named Jacob who was exceptional. He has a very sharp eye and always checked on us if the food was good, putting away any plates, etc. They are very polite and always engaged with our table and the others that he serves as I observed. I would definitely have this server in the future when dining here at this restaurant. This restaurant is a good fine dining place that is located in the South Charlotte / Waverly area. I would recommend it to anyone who goes here.

The Porter's House is a very delicious restaurant and we've been multiple times. The menu is small but the food is generally executed well. Good size portions, however it is very pricey. The atmosphere is that of most upscale steakhouses; Low lights, calm music and attentive staff. The cocktail menu is impressive. The wine flights are a really cool concept. The restaurant also features some really cool events. We've done a private Bourbon tasting here before and really enjoyed the experience. So why 4-stars instead of 5? We realized halfway through our meal every other table was being brought complimentary bread. We however were never offered this. The braised short rib was tasty however its a favorite we order often and expect it to be fall off the bone soft. For us, excuse the pun but the short rib fell...short.

Early Valentines Dinner courtesy of the fiancé (he has to work on the 14th) - The Porters House in Waverly - great food, generous portions, fantastic service. We will definitely be back. Got there at 520pm for a 6pm reservation but they took us early. Not busy when we arrived but packed and people waiting outside when we left around 7pm. LOVED THE APPETIZERS!!! The pimento cheese beignets were beautifully, lightly crisp on the outside and a wonderful, molten lava of creamy pimento cheese inside. The calamari were strips versus rings or legs, we loved the texture and flavor, breaded and fried - very light garlic, caper sauce drizzled over the top. Wedge blue cheese ranch salad, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, mushrooms and onions as sides. Amazingly soft, light airy, rolls with garlic herb butter. Bone in 32 ounce Porterhouse for two, medium rare, with pickled veggies over a little bit of arugula. A slice of coconut cake to go. Truly excellent food, I like the mashed potatoes better at Dresslers, cream spinach wasn’t bad. Mushrooms and onions were my favorite side! Our steak was cooked, seasoned perfectly - excellent cut, lovely texture and the grilled outside had a great flavor. It comes with four sauces - my favorite was the horseradish which is very light, not strong. Followed by TPH Steak sauce. Not a fan of the chimichurri (love a good Colombian chimichurri!) and peppercorn cream (it was too sweet like caramel). The coconut cake was more of a dry cake versus cream but it was fantastic. Not overly sweet but very flavorful. Great place to walk around, we sat on a swinging chair and watched the kids play in an open area after our walk. Stopped in at Whole Foods after dinner for groceries (awesome trea leche and key lime pie at WF)! Worth the trip!!! We have two more John Dressler restaurants to try. Dogwood and Fin and Fino. Still love Dresslers best 😍 The staff are almost all long timers - one of the them has worked for Jon (Rare Roots Hospitality) for 15 years! He treats his staff very well and it shows in their service and teamwork.

The food was amazing but the service was lackluster at best. We sat at the bar and Lindsey (who was working the well) ignored us for the entire time. I have worked in upscale restaurants for years and have never seen anything like it. She would talk to regulars around us but I sat with an empty drink for long periods of time and she never made eye contact or tried to talk to us. We finally decided to interrupt and ask her to order our dessert as we sat there waiting for over 15 minutes to be acknowledged and the other bartender was way busier. Now during this time she just chatted with staff, regulars and and focused on only two tickets in the well, so when she was dismissive and did not know what they had for dessert I decided I had to write a review. The sad part is we were honoring the passing of a dear friend that we worked in restaurants with for years. We had every intention of over tipping and spending way more than we did. What a loss.
