This place is great! I have to admit, I was a little skeptical prior to visiting since I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Mexican cuisine... hard to beat a big plate of mole poblano with beans and rice, flaky chips with fresh salsa, and guac that is made right in front of you, but this place is a gem of its own.
I highly recommend getting the Carne Asada Hongo, which is basically a pile of juicy, tender, perfectly-seasoned steak strips with charred onions, chiles, mushrooms, and potato/zucchini fritters... Mmm, it was good! My girlfriend ordered one of the burritos and she loved it (and she's very particular with her burritos), but she loved it. It was a good size too; had to take half of it home.
But my absolute favorite thing I had: the Street Corn! While $3 is a little pricey for an ear of corn, it was sooo good, was worth every penny! Grilled and seasoned to perfection with a generous amount of jalapeno cheese and Mexican spices... was spectacular. Next time I know to order 2-3.
They also had *32 oz* bottles of my favorite cerveza, Carta Blanca. I was blown away! Carta Blanca is hard to find in a normal 12 oz bottle!
Overall, food was delicious, drinks were refreshing, service was great--our server was very prompt and attentive--the atmosphere was fun and inviting (perfectly captures the SoCal vibe)... we were both very impressed and look forward to visiting them again soon!
Gorgeous building and upfit. A+ location. Unique “So-Cal” vibe. Tacos..killer tacos and Mexican fare. Super cool bar with lots of tequila. Great staff. Ample parking. Oh yeah.. did I say tacos? They’re really good. Quesadilla may be the “sneaky best thing, though!
This is one of the best venues I’ve been to! Unbeatable food! Relaxed atmosphere! Great music!
Wish we had this venue in Melbourne, Australia!!
Service was initially slow until asked about and then it was great. The drink was good. The food was good and it came out fast. Nice things to look at.
My significant other I were exploring the Charlotte area with our two corgis and stumbled on this restaurant. We saw patio space and ask if it was dog friendly, it was! It was pretty cold at night and they had heater running!
The food was good! Who can beat a $1.50 salsa and chips! We also ordered queso on the side. My significant other ordered the three tacos and one side! She got the fried octopus, pork belly and breakfast with a side of red beans and rice. We were not fans of the red beans and rice but the tacos were flawless, no complaints. I had the steak burrito which the portion size was huge.
Reason for the 4 star service was because the server did forget about us but rewarded us with free dessert. Churros were amazing! For the price for all the food we spent $45!
1st time eating over there. It was sooo yummy. Will deff b bk. I loooved their version of mozzarella sticks. Sooo different and the sauce to go with it more of a jam but ohhh, that kick!!! Just what I needed to wake me up. 😋🤤🥰 The kale taco salad was tha bomb!!! Soooo freaking goood. Excited to try out their other stuff next time. I loooved the Spicoli in the van, that was the icing on the cake!!!! 🥰💗😎💚🤩😘🤤😋🫶💓💙💕🙂💜💛💪🫂💯😊😃🙌♥️❤️👏😍☺️😆😁😌❤️🔥
Such a cool place! Came at 6 on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised to be quickly seated. It filled up while we dined. Our server was awesome and service was excellent. Chips and salsa were so good and highly recommend the Blood Orange Margarita. I couldn't pick between 2 tacos so they let me mix and match! I had 2 shrimp tacos and 1 of the chicken. Both fantastic! My friend prefers vegetarian dishes and enjoyed the vegetarian burrito. We were out celebrating her birthday so they brought us churros, which were so yummy. Got lucky with parking but can see where it'd be hard to find a spot. Can't wait to come back to hear some music on the patio!
The food was amazing, the atmosphere was great, and the service was top notch! Angel was our server and made our first experience at Southbound a memorable one!
We had an amazing experience at South Bound! The drinks and food was great! Angel our Server/ Bartender provided excellent customer service!! Thank you Angel
I stopped in for lunch while waiting to get my oil changed next door. I asked the bartender, Cynthia, if she could make me a virgin margarita because I’m pregnant and have been craving one! She made me the best virgin margarita I’ve ever had! Made this pregnant mama happy
Fantastic spot. Super inviting with great food and service.
Had a great time talking to the bartenders and getting suggestions for what to do around the city.
I’d easily go back!
The food and atmosphere was really good. Me and my family came for taco Tuesday. The steak tacos are a must! The chips and salsa was good as well as the margarita pitcher! It’s definitely worth it! The server we had was a little flustered but overall it was a good first experience. Also it’s pet friendly if you want to bring your dog.
Really enjoyed our dinner here! The host was very kind, the wait wasn't long, and the food was delicious. We sat outside and unfortunately it was very windy, but that's not anyone's fault. I'd recommend they add some sort of awning in the summer, though - the sun was shining directly into the seating area and it was hard to look at the people across the table (even with sunglasses). Service was only okay, but the food made up for it.
Came here looking for one thing in specific, and I was not disappointed. This place seem to be the only one near Charlotte that sells Imperial beer! Thank you so much for making my day 🙂 and please never remove it from your menu!
The atmosphere here was awesome. We came on a week night so it was not that busy but I am sure on the weekends with live music it would be packed.
Had the 3 tacos and the steak and chicken were great. All day breakfast is fine to pass. I would come back again for a few drinks and tacos.
Love this spot. The service is wonderful, tacos are fabulous. Typical south end pricing. I love their black refried beans, flavors have great spices and drinks are wonderful. The atmosphere is upbeat with great music and a Baja kind of feel. Live music right next door too so good spot if wanting to bop around the area and get a taste for Charlotte.
Went in again and actually sat to eat. The service was pretty good. We had margaritas on the rocks & the frozen blueberry & pina colada margaritas also. They were tasty & you don't have to question if there's alcohol in them😉 We tried the carne asada & chicken adobo tacos. We really enjoyed the carne asada tacos, but the chicken adobo didn't quite hit for me. I enjoyed listening to the music coming from the outside area also. Will return to try more. Side note: never been to a place that serves mexican dishes and the chips & salsa aren't complimentary, $1.25 isn't much, but I'm just saying.
The only reason I scored what I did is bc I only experienced the outside area, no food & no service. I went here for Cinco de Mayo, so of course it was packed. The energy here was great! The atmosphere was very nice! I'd like to come on another day to try the food.
Southbound does a great job, serving neat and delicious Mexican dishes. My favorite is the chicken adobo tacos or the beer-battered avocado tacos (YUM). They prices are pretty fair, and the cocktails are awesome. And the margarita is spot on. If you come on the weekends, they also host bands at the Music Yard that's kind of built into the side. They have great parking, and the service is super friendly. In fact, I'd like to make a point of shouting out Jerome for his super fast and accurate service. Thank you!
Had an AMAZING server! She was tall, had a lovely smile, very pretty, joked with me & my party and was very informative. Blood orange margaritas are to die for! Will come back for the service but the chocolate cake is soooo good!
