Chinese food is my favorite cuisine and this place does nearly everything right. My only judgment was with the egg drop soup. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great, either. The atmosphere inside is also different than any other Chinese restaurant I've been to around town. Usually they're dark and unappealing, but not this place. Chef Lin was my hands down favorite before I tried Forbidden city. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly. Our waitress even took the time to teach me a little Chinese. I'll definitely be going back on a regular basis
Super. I'm picky. Best buffet sushi I've ever had. Great Chinese food. 5*
Didn't try the dessert bar but the rest was awesome. Highly recommended.
I LOVE the coconut shrimp. I wish they had not taken it off their lunch menu and replaced it with coconut chicken :-( I've mostly eaten here for lunch. Tried their dinner buffet and it was not nearly as good as the lunch. My husband agrees 100%. The only thing on their dinner buffet worth eating is the coconut shrimp. No one wants to go to a buffet for one item. :-/ I will only be eating lunch here, but really wish they would add my fav. back.
Good Variety & Nice Atmosphere. Typical Chinese food with a very good variety. Many, many choices and so little room to put it. Good Chinese buffet, but not much better than the others. I do recommend this place on the basis of a good variety and good service. I might add that my wife says that the restaurant is cleaner than most.
Awesome price and food for low budget date night. It's clean and pretty affordable, especially for college age kiddos. It's not high class but for a buffet it has an awesome selection in a pretty good location.
Great for a buffet. Sushis good. Real nice decor.
Chattanooga's Best Asian Restaurant. I was a food, wine and travel writer for more than 10 years and have a hard time understanding people who give this restaurant a poor review. Forbidden City is, simply put, Chattanooga's best Asian restaurant that is not a chain, and is an absolutely outstanding value. The restaurant itself is spacious and attractive, the staff gracious and attentive, and the food is fantastic for the money. The sushi is as fresh and beautiful as you would find in a high end sushi restaurant charging 4 times what you would pay here. The menu spans numerous Asian cuisines -- from Thai and traditional Chinese to Japanese, with kid friendly dishes and a great drink menu and bar area. Everything is done authentically. The food comes out fresh and hot, the restaurant is extraordinarily clean -- my only complaint is that there are too many choices!! You could eat here every day and never get bored. There are lots of Asian restaurants in Chattanooga but none compare to the quality, price and value of Forbidden City.
AMAZING FOOD/ SERVICE/ ECT!. This place is really great! Although there are many reviews that are not so good, I say you have to try it out yourself! Plus, a lot of the reviews were written earlier this year or last year, Im sure that they have made improvements to your dislikes. *As for some of you, you are just recommending another restuarant which is unfair to post here.*
Now, lets get on to the important part.. I would give this place a 10 out of 10! Its is a great place, VERY GOOD FOOD, SERVICE, and ITS CLEAN AS A LOT OF OTHER PLACES ARE NOT! The price is also very nice, as I dont think you can get food so good for any cheaper. They have a sushie bar, hibachi bar, salad/ fruit/ and dessert bar for those who are vegitarians. They also have an icecream, scoop sort of bar for kids who cant live without sweets.. And many other bars, filled with delicious hot food, that is not over cooked or under cooked. Its where they are just right! Plus lots of seafood to choose from!
Of course, if you ever do have a slight problem or so, Im positive that the manager will be glad to serve you. As said, great service!
The bathrooms are clean and you dont see random junk laying on the floor. The place is very clean! And if its not, you may always ask for it to be fixed.
The price is also very nice and its something I wont reveal. You'll just have to see for yourself! But just saying this- for the quality of the food you are eating, this price is definatley worth it!
Read my review, and read it over again! This place is really amazing and its beyond good! :)
Excellent Buffet. I've been to Forbidden City several times with quite a few guests, and it's has been consistently good for me and everyone in my party each time. The interior is really well designed and quite aesthetically pleasing for a buffet. It certainly has a unique look. Also, you can tell that management really cares about cleanliness, as it is about the cleanest I have ever seen a buffet. As for the food, it is solid. There is a very wide selection, and while the sushi, of course, is not going to be top-of-the-line, it is especially good for a buffet. I like how there are numerous Asian cuisines present, from the old standards to a few items that I have never seen before. The key, as with any buffet, is to go there during busy hours. I don't frequent buffets, but it seems like common sense that if you go during off-hours, the food is probably not going to be that great. I think that probably has been the case for some of the complaints here, as I have always had a great experience at Forbidden City and as have the people that have joined me. For the price, you can't beat it. Highly recommended.
An amazing place to come. I love the food here it gets better and better. Really clean place. Good culture looking. Ofcourse coming back soon. :)
Forbidden City is Amazing.. Forbidden City is a wonderful atmosphere with great staff and wonderful food . i reccommend this restaurant for a fun , family oriented outing . five stars (:
Just ate there for the frst time tonight with my son and wife so this is 3 reviews in one. My son gives it 4/5 stars, 1/5 from my wife. I have to break it down into 3 categories- 5/5 for the ambience and decor, but it is a brand new place, so it should b nice. 4/5 for service- the staff was attentive but nothing out of the norm. And last but not least, the food- 2.5/5. Nice variety but bland. Even the hibachi grilled food that I put together, even when cooked with spicy sauce. The tai tea was even watery. Overall rating from this clan- 3/5. We will probably be back but wont b very excited about it
Awesome!. My 9 year old and I went when they first opened a couple of weeks ago and this weekend I am picking up my 19 year old and taking her with us. It's truly an experience we enjoyed the first time around!
The food at Forbidden City is as good, if not better than the other Chinese buffets in the area. Very courteous and attentive staff, nice decor, and you can't beat the selection of food.
Where did the hot girls with the low cut tops go?!?. Seriously a friend and me went on opening day and had 2 hotties bow and welcome us to the Forbidden City. The next time we went back they were gone and we were like wtf?!?. Oh well I love the food and try to eat there with my friends & coworkers as much as possible but I gotta take points off for the lack of gratuitous boobage.
It was wonderful!. The buffet was great. I went the 2nd day of it opening and it was awesome. The place is beautiful and the food selection was great. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. I will definitely will be back again without a doubt.
A step above.... You may be thinking "Another Chinese Buffet?" and I can completely understand. After many years of sampling the various establishments in Chattanooga I have come to the conclusion that they are all about the same.
Upon walking into Forbidden City you almost expect something above and beyond what the others offer. The place appeared to be buzzing as people walked from serving area to serving area. There are so many selections that it is very hard to determine what you want. In addition to the regular type dishes that everyone is used to there are other dishes like Hong Kong steak that are not normally seen on the regular spots.
The sushi area was plentiful with a nice selection and all was very delicious. I have to say that I would return just on the principal of really good sushi.
If the buffet area did not satisfy your appetite there is Hibachi area where you can choose your protein and veggies and a chef will prepare it. Just on the other side was a carving station that had roast beef, which was really good considering that it didn't much fit. I was very surprised to see a plentiful salad bar as well that far exceeded what most offer.
When it comes time for the dessert you will have a plentiful selection of ice creams as well as the usual chinese desserts.
Overall I was really pleased with everything. The price was reasonable for about $13.00 for dinner with drink. The staff was very nice and helpful. The staff seemed to be filling areas with food and making sure that all the food was proper to be served. I hope this continues and doesn't fall into the depths of just another dirty chinese restaurant....
Great variety!. My husband & I went to Forbidden City the 2nd night they were open. We'll definitely be going back, b/c I want to try more of what they have to offer. We ate from the buffet, and they had a very large variety of things to choose from. Some things I hadn't tried before, like the Indian Chicken, which is my new favorite. We didn't try the Hibachi station, or sushi station, so that'll be on my next visit. We arrived around 6:30PM, so the food was piping hot, was being replenished regularly, so no complaints from me. They also had about 8 types of real ice cream (not the soft serve) that you can dip in & serve yourself. Yum. We met the manager and he was very friendly, and our server was definitely on-point. Looking forward to going back.
This place is awesome. Best buffet in the city. They have items others dont have and has top notch decor. Highly recommend. Wife says she gives it a 7. I give it a 9.5 only because there could be better I just havent found it.
