We were visiting a friend in Chicago and he recommended we have dinner here Saturday night. We each ordered an entree and sides to share. The dry rubbed aged ribeye was amazing, but my husband thought the lamb took first place. The whole experience from oyster starters to choc cream pie dessert did not disappoint. Definitely make reservations!

We loved Bavette's! The atmosphere was nice and food was fantastic! We recommend starting at the Gilt Bar next door for a pre-dinner cocktail. Chicago has tons of great restaurants, so it has to be a pretty great spot for us to return - We will definitely be returning to Bavette's! Highly recommend!

The food was pretty good for a limited menu (including a gluten free option without additional price), the service quite fast considering you're at an airport, and the decor is standard Harry Caray's for nostalgia purposes.
For two of us, our meal came out to under $30, without alcohol. My partner had a soup/sandwich combo with frites, and I had a pulled pork sandwich with chips. The wait staff are in shirts and ties, and I was impressed by how accommodating they are with all of the luggage and bags being piled in there. From ordering to plates on table was under 10 minutes.
Overall, I'll go back when I'm at Midway in the future.

We loved our dinner. The best steak I have had in years! BRANDON IS THE BEST!! Ask for his table. The old fashion was a great drink, had never had one. Brought an extra appetizer just to be nice.

Went to Bavette's on our first night for a week-long trip to Chicago. Made reservations with OpenTable online for a Sunday night at 8pm. They called a few days before to confirm. We arrived and were seated promptly in the downstairs section. This restaurant has various great settings from the ground floor booths and bar to the basement level, which has stone walls and great candle-lit ambiance. The menu had a good variety of options. Our server was fantastic and explained everything thoroughly and provided great suggestions throughout the night. Was both upscale and down-to-earth at the same time. We each had a filet, tried bone marrow as a side, along with the crab mac and cheese. Everything was perfectly done. This is a fantastic place for a special occasion or simply a delicious meal. Not inexpensive, but worth it. You should go.

Bavette's Bar and Boeuf

Synopsis: Bavette's is an excellent restaurant with high quality food and very good service. It is a low key, cool spot for a great meal. The food here is great. I think they have the best Steak in Chicago and their seafood tower is very good! It is hard to get reservations but if you come in around 5:00 pm you can just grab a seat. Also, the maximum table group is 6. They keep it very intimate.

Venue: it is located in high street of West Kinzie Street

Experience:

The ambiance is excellent we found it very dark and cavernous. Service staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. We did have to adjust to the darkness. Make sure your waitress gives you a little flashlight to click some picture and way to sitting arrangement. Apart it Atmosphere was very nice. The crowd was between the age of 20-30yr. Since we had reservations and waited for 15/min to be seated, no room at the bar. Not a big deal.

I'm truly struggling to see how this restaurant earned a High reputation in this city. The place is beautifully decorated and the ambiance is extremely fun. The staff, especially the bartenders, was fantastic and professional. We had an 8:00 reservation, arrived at 7:40, made our way to the bar for a few drinks beforehand, and promptly seated by 8:10.

The place was packed so good job on running the front. Our first app was the baked goat cheese, it was terrible! The cheese was indistinguishable as it was completely drowned in an overly herbed sauce and served with garlic Texas toast. The garlic and herbs were so overpowering that it gave me instant indigestion. Our second course was a salad, which was fine, hard to ruin a salad. Even fast food restaurants get those rights at times! My Friend had the salmon and I had the burger. The salmon came alone without any accompaniments but was cooked as requested and tasted fine. The burger was less than mediocre for the price point it sells at, so not a good choice in my opinion. Overall, the restaurant was ok and we most likely ordered incorrectly, but a restaurant with a second place spot on TA should be better. I think the demographic of this restaurant is young adults so the reviews are higher than they should be.

Final word: We enjoyed Bavette's so much!!

Meal for two: $ 100/-

Superb steaks, sides, cocktails, and service with a beautiful speakeasy-style atmosphere.

I ordered the New York strip steak on special last Saturday night along with broccoli and a mint julep. The steak was thick, seared on the outside and perfectly medium-rare on the inside from the very first bite. The steak salt and béarnaise made the steak delicious! Also, the broccoli was some of the best I'd ever tasted, and was served with lemon juice in light olive oil instead of butter. We didn't have a reservation, so my wife and I ordered drinks from the bar. She got a wonderful old fashioned, a favorite of hers and a specialty of theirs, and I had a mint julep. The drinks were extremely tasty, well-balanced, and as strong as they should be.

Our server was excellent as well, as were all in his supporting cast. Our food arrived hot, we were well-stocked with bread and butter, and our waters were always full. My wife and I usually don't spend this much money eating out, especially back home in Cleveland, but the sensational ambiance and swankiness of Bavette's and the impeccable food, cocktails, and service were a perfect dinner for a very reasonable price in Downtown Chicago, where I suspect you could pay much much more for such a great experience.

Overall at least a 4.5.  Food - Exellent. We were celebrating our 5th Wedding Anniversary and had a wonderfu time!  We had the Smoked Trout Ceasar Salad, Charred Brussel Sprouts in a mustard based sauce, and an incredible 16 oz. Ribeye Chicago Cut.  Service was outstanding at the bar upstairs, the hostess was so warm and welcoming and our waiter was on point with his recommendations and overall service!  Ambience was exactly what we were looking for! Downstairs was perfect for a couple eating by candlelight was a very nice touch. The drinks were very good.

We will definitely be making it back to this place!

So many old school Chicago steakhouses feel like carbon copies of the next, but Bavette's takes an entirely different approach. It feels a bit more like a speakeasy/lounge setting, with wonderful music and decor. There's also a bar downstairs that is a great spot to either wait for your table, or for a night cap! While the steaks were great, the real standouts were the appetizers and the sides. The bacon roasted tomato salad was to die for. Thick bacon slices cooked with fresh tomato on top of lightly dressed greens.... wow! Additionally, the corn elotes were heavenly. I could have passed on the creamed spinach... too much cheese for my taste. They make a great old fashioned, but I am hard-pressed to believe any old fashioned is worth $16. Pro tip: if you don't have a reservation, show up around 5:30 and you shouldn't have to wait at all. I will return to Bavette's!

Bavette's is hands-down my favorite restaurant in Chicago and has been since my very first visit. From the food to the drinks to the atmosphere, everything about Bavette's is perfection. I love to start with a Dark & Stormy or an Old Overholt Old Fashioned and follow up with a large glass of burgundy.

As far as food goes you can't go wrong, but my favorites are the Beef Tongue, Garlic Shrimp De Jonghe, Shortrib Stroganoff, Steak Frites, and always, always, ALWAYS the Chocolate Pie. Other notable options are the Baked Goat Cheese, Crab Stuffed Avocado, Bacon Roasted Tomato, Prime Beef Sandwich, and Filet Mignon.

Reservations are hard to come by so if I don't plan ahead I'll either arrive right when they open or find a seat at the bar-they have two, one upstairs and one down. It's the perfect spot for a special occasion, but it's also great anytime you need a strong drink and a delicious meal.

Bavette's Bar abd Boeuf. Have you ever walked into a space so chic and elegant that it makes you feel important? That’s how I feel when I walk into Bavettes. It’s a beautiful space to see and be seen.
I fell in love with Bavettes on my first visit. I love the 1920s French bistro atmosphere. The downstairs lounge feels like a speak easy. It’s mysterious, romantic and cozy. You feel more sophisticated just by being there. The space elevates the dining experience, it becomes a grand affair, not just another meal.
The food is just as memorable as the decor. The first time I dined there with four men, including my friend Adrian. We ordered so much food it barely fit on the table. Everyone insisted that you try a bite off their plate. It’s food so decadent that you want to share the experience.
Recently I asked my husband what his favorite all time dinner is and he answered instantly: steak with Roquefort from Bavettes, with a side of bacon, and a loaded baked potato. I think we had both been craving it ever since, and when we both received exciting career related news, we knew just where to celebrate.
Bavettes is the type of place that can do no wrong. It is the perfect place to take someone if you want to impress them, the menu has something for everyone, and I have never heard a bad word about the food. Charles and I have tried many items on the menu, and have enjoyed each item so much that deciding what to order has become a difficult decision.
A meal at Bavettes begins with a drink. They have a fantastic cocktail list, which includes three different Old Fashioned. Charles loves the Old Fashioned that is described as being the booziest. I often order wine, and somehow only just discovered that you can BYOB. Bavettes has an interesting BYOB policy. You may bring your own bottle of wine, under the condition that you share a glass of your wine with another table. It is a fun way to interact with other diners. I was very happy to accept a glass of red from the two gentlemen seated beside us.
When we dine at Bavettes with friends, Charles always orders the Oyster Tower. It includes both East and West Coast Oysters. Oysters aren’t my thing but Charles loves them.
The salads at Bavettes are huge and meant to be shared. Last time I ordered the Wedge Salad with egg, bacon, and blue cheese. It was the perfect size for three people. We loved the blue cheese dressing and thick crunchy bacon.
Often I skip the appetizer and go straight to the entree because I want to save room for dessert. My favorite entree is a toss up between the short rib stroganoff and the duchess cut petite filet. The short rib stroganoff is so rich that even though I love every bite I can only finish half of it. For this reason it is a great dish to order for the table and share if you are with a group. The short rib is cooked to perfection, it just melts in your mouth. The pasta is fresh and the mushrooms are caramelized and full of flavor. The sherry cream sauce pulls everything together.
My other favorite meal is the Duchess Cut Petite Filet which comes with Roasted Tomatoes and herb butter. The steak is always cooked to the precise temperature requested and is so tender that it could probably be cut with a butter knife. The roasted tomatoes are a great touch; they are honestly the best roast tomatoes I have ever tried. They are simply topped with olive oil and steak salt, but they are the perfect side. Sometimes we get a full side order for the table.
Charles usually orders the Chicago Cut Steak, which is a rib eye. The steak comes with Bearnaise, but you also have the option to add wild mushrooms, roasted garlic, Roquefort, au poivre, butter, or bone marrow. Charles rotates between getting the Roquefort and the wild mushrooms.
Sometimes Charles mixes it up and orders the Pork Chop. He loved this so much, and ate it so fast that it was nearly gone when the waiter came to ask how the food was. He said it was the best Pork Chop he has ever had.
Now on to the side dishes. Adrian introduced us to the side of bacon. It is very thick cut and seasoned with maple. It is dangerously good.
I am obsessed with Elotes so when I noticed Elote Style Corn on the menu I had to try it. It is seasoned with parmesan, chile and lime. The portion is huge but that didn’t stop the two of us from eating every bite.
Our favorite side dish is the Loaded Baked Potato. It is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and comes with all of the toppings – bacon, sour cream, chives, and steak salt. It is also giant, and can easily feed three people. I have been recreating these potatoes at home.
This chocolate pie is worth saving room for. The chocolate filling is smooth and rich and has a thick pudding like texture. It sits on a chocolate crust. The whipped cream prevents chocolate overload. The whipped cream is flavored, perhaps it is caramel, I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I know I like it. Even though my husband “doesn’t like sweets” and doesn’t want to order dessert he always helps me eat this pie.
Unfortunately it is very easy to fill up too much to order this pie. Sometimes I let my waiter know about my intentions to save room for the pie. I skip the appetizer, limit the number of sides, take a portion of my entree home, and eat the pie. I have completely neglected to try any of the other desserts on the menu since I always get this pie. It is one of those dishes that you see someone else get and know you need to try.
A meal at Bavette’s is a memorable experience. It is on the pricy side, but the quality of the food and the elegance of the atmosphere justifies the price.
Bavette’s Bar and Boeuf is located in Chicago’s River North at 218 West Kinzie Street. It is a very short walk from the Purple and Brown line stops at Merchandize Mart. I highly recommend making a reservation, otherwise be prepared for a wait.

Great meal. The foods, the atmosphere, the service, all top notch. We were told a 90 minute wait, and it would have been worth that. Lucky for us a table opened up in half that time.

Great drinks, too.

Great food if you don't mind spending money. I had salmon for my main course which was good. I accompanied it with the lemon broccoli which was amazing! The staff is very accommodating and the Atmosphere is worth spending a little extra for a great meal.

Pretty good. The food was well prepared, but the flavors weren't extraordinary. The roasted chicken was great and the steak was satisfying. I'd avoid the corn (elotes) they really don't resemble elotes and is essentially creamed corn with a touch of spice.

They make fantastic bread, that you can buy for $8.00 to bring home for breakfast the next day, the loaf is huge, and some of the best the city has to offer. Excellent beef, they truly honor the animal in its prep. Get in there soon!

Bavette's just has that right steakhouse feel down. There's a classy yet trendy environment, a variety of price points, and a bunch of little twists on steakhouse standards. The only dish I would replace in my experience was the Terrine. I'm giving them 4.5 out of 5 Pearls and wish I had the time to go back before skipping town.

The decor, lighting and atmosphere alone will keep bavette's slammed, and then you get to enjoy the food and drink. Also, definitely check out the downstairs 'parlor'. I love the faux animals heads and the wood paneling combined with the original stone work.

This is a fabulous, moody steak place with amazing side dishes, so the food is great! But for me it was about the drinks and the vibe! As I enjoyed my perfectly made dirty martini, it felt like at any moment some cool, jazzy singer would sashay up to a mike and do a set. I loved the velvet booths, low lights and dark atmosphere. So go grab a great steak and one of the best baked potatoes in town, but start with some drinks and good conversation. It’s that kinda place.

We waited 3 hours to get in. Please make a reservation 21 days before your visit to avoid such a long wait. The wagyu steaks are exquisitely good, but not worth the 3 hour wait. Porterhouse was ordered medium rare but came out as rare. Would go back for a special occasion and for a wonderful steak.

This is an excellent steakhouse in Chicago. Everything about it from the reception at the door and walking into the main dining room. The design, vibe, mood, music and lighting was on point. It set the tone and created the ambiance of what what turned out to be a wonderful dinner experience. The best part of the whole and most important was the menu and the quality of the steak. I had the bone in Filet. Perfection. The desserts where also a on point. I attached some pictures to this post. Great dinner and will return. Also to add that our server was great and he is what true hospitality is all about. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This visit to Bavette’s was our first but it DEFINITELY will not be our last. I recommend that you make reservations; we did and it was well worth it. The ambiance is posh, without being pretentious. The food was delicious, seasoned to perfection, generously portioned, and easily shareable. The Spicy Fried Chicken was OUTSTANDING. The Chocolate Cream Pie was luscious and decadent. The Mac and Cheese was creamy and sumptuous. The customer service was consistent across the team of servers who serviced our table. I highly recommend this hidden gem.

Bavatte's Bar & Boeuf is an upscale steakhouse restaurant. This was our first time coming here, and we enjoyed it very much. It was our anniversary, and our server, Nicky, brought us complementary wine. That was a very nice gesture. We ordered the bone marrow and the 10oz ribeye. The steak was superb! Cooked to perfection, and we enjoyed it so much! Recommend 100%

Wow! Simply amazing. All the food was impeccably prepared, one of the best steaks I have ever had. We ate in the parlor which was pretty dark but very cool. The dining room upstairs looked like an equally memorable location. Steak was among the best I ever had. Homemade sourdough nearly perfect, sides all buttery and delicious and cooked to perfection. Service staff were very attentive and courteous and made sure the experience was impeccable. I will definitely be back if we should get the opportunity to return to Chicago. 5/5 A+++

What a treat to dine & drink here. The ambiance is so incredibly gorgeous. Such a diverse clientele and casual Dress code for such a divine experience. I would absolutely come back. Their New York steak (medium rare of course!) & Brussels side were mind blowing. I had my first chocolate martini (& then 2 others) as well as a penicillin. All made so well.

The portions were generous .My ribeye was just over medium as I requested and delicious! I The loaded baked potato turned out to be 2 perfectly cooked potatoes. IStrongly recommend this establishment if you want to enjoy a high quality meal in a laid back atmosphere with a very friendly and attentive staff!
