Superb food and customer service. Staff will go any extra miles to serve you to perfection. Exquisite appetizers, pastas and entrees, paired with sophisticated red and white wines. Desserts will top your dining experience to above and beyond! Thanks Cesar for such a welcoming experience!
Food and drinks were amazing! The special holiday espresso martini tastes great! The burrata with prosciutto is the most fresh one I ever had in Chicago. The octopus is grilled to perfection. Steak and carbonara are a great main dish. The cheesecake is too cheesy but so good!! Also their house wine is great!
I feel like I have been finding Italian heaven here in Chicago *cue the angels singing!* Here at you get all the vibes - cozy, intimate, and warm paired with authentic, fresh Italian cuisine! I love the interior and there’s even an upstairs for seating.
Food I tried:
Burrata Platter - loved this and the spreads
Calamari - perfectly fried!!!
Gnocchi Al Brivido - OMGGGGGG I LOVED THIS
10oz NY Strip - my guest said it was delish!
Cacio e pepe cheesecake - it was set on fire and caramelized right in front of me. Perfect balance of sweetness!
Triple layer chocolate cake - Probably some of the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had!!!
Drinks I tried:
Moscato D’asti
Lil pick me up
Old Fashioned
My gnocchi was so soft and that basil pesto - I could eat it on ANYTHING! The rub used on their NY strip comes from Second City Prime (look them up!) so not only is it cooked very well, it’s seasoned perfectly! And the dessert?!?! I could come here just to eat the dessert alone! Both desserts I tried were decadent!
Ask for the waitress Gia! She was super sweet and very knowledgeable about the menu!
Visit them to try one of their authentic dishes and tell em that Bri from Planes & Plates sent you! Buon Appetito!
Sapori has two stories, and the second floor dining space has a charming homey ambiance reminiscent of a converted apartment. This woodsy setting could make for a lovely date spot, though during peak dinner hours, the noise levels can escalate a bit.
For the main courses, we tried the Carbonara and Risotto. While both were flavorful, they seemed a bit lacking in complexity and depth of flavor.
The standout star of the meal was the Cacio E Pepe Cheesecake! The whole cheesecake was set on fire with a layer of cheese on top, resulting in a blend of sweet, richness, and savory flavors. It might be one of the best and most unique cheesecakes I've ever tried!
A dim and relaxed atmosphere with marvelous food and pleasant staff. Everything we ate was delicious but the carbonara… I would kick my girlfriend out of bed for that pasta. Some of the best I’ve ever had.
We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 cocktails, and 2 entrees. With a 20% tip, that came out to about $180. The atmosphere was lovely and our server, Cesar, was so kind and personable. The staff was attentive, everything was timely, and recommendations were much appreciated. As for the food, it left a bit to be desired. Our meatball appetizer came out cold which was unfortunate but the flavor was there. Really loved the whipped ricotta however, the bread was really pushing from charred to just straight burnt. We ordered their pork shank special and veal osso buco. For both of us we again really enjoyed the flavor but the meat itself, both pork and veal, was tough/dry. For $36 an entree we were expecting melt in your mouth so there was some disappointment. Again, flavors are good on everything but execution was missing that made everything just okay versus delicious. For the price it makes it hard to say we’d come back because nothing knocked our socks off besides the service. We were celebrating a birthday so we enjoyed a complimentary slice of yummy tiramisu and limoncello which was very thoughtful. If we do return, we’ll likely stick to pasta.

It's a very large restaurant with more seating on the second floor. They have many selection of Italian wine you can choose from. We were recommended a decent one around $60. Steak was perfectly cooked and juice poured out of the shrimp in our pasta. Overall it was a nice, cozy, neighborhood restaurant but it was all a bit too salty for us. All the flavors + texture from each dish was satisfying.
A great happy hour deal! The drinks were really good and we enjoyed the apps & dessert. Our favorites were the ricotta toast and the tiramisu! A veryyyy good espresso martini too!
Great spot - perfect ambiance for date nights with amazing food as well. Servers are also super attentive and helpful. The lobster ravioli / tiramisu were absolute winners!
A friend and I came her to expand our Chicago Italian food spots and we weren’t disappointed! Starting off our service was fantastic and I’m kicking myself for not getting her name. We were in between a few options trying to explore as much of the menu as we could and she did a great (and honest) job of narrowing our search. We started with a few cocktails. The Chicago 75 (I didn’t try) and the Italian Manhattan- a deep cocktail with a little Italian richness. From there we went to the meatballs and clams. Both fantastic but the clams have a level of spice to them. To us it was perfect but just in case be forewarned. From their I had the All’ Aragosta and my companion had the carbonera. Both 🤌🏼🤌🏼, the seafood combination in the Aragosta with the vodka sauce was delicious and the carbonara was the perfect level of richness. Could eat that one breakfast lunch or dinner. We finished with the pistachio gelato and Vanilla Mascarpone. The perfect end to a great meal!
I found this restaurant after searching for best Italian restaurants in Chicago. I would say it lived up to that billing. My meal was fantastic, and I went with the Chicagoeater recommended lobster stuffed ravioli. The vodka sauce is decadent so save some of the house bread for dipping into your pasta sauce. The grilled zucchini mixed in was also complimented by the sauce really well.
I finished off with the cheesecake which was promptly set on fire by my server. I probably wouldn’t order it again, but it was really good. I would just rather try something different if I were to return.
Best Italian restaurant in Chicago will always be subjective in a city with such diverse options, but it is a restaurant that shouldn’t be missed.
I recently dined at Sapori Trattoria in Chicago, and it was an enchanting culinary experience. From the moment I walked in, the cozy ambiance and welcoming staff set the stage for a delightful evening.
The menu at Sapori Trattoria is a celebration of authentic Italian flavors. I started with the Insalata Rustica, brussel sprout salad with parmesan baked bread crumbles, and dried cranberries. House-made buttermilk avocado dressing contains a touch of anchovy and Worcestershire. It was a perfect appetizer to whet the appetite.
To keep things interesting, I opted to get the Charred Octupus, made with crispy artichokes, burnt lemon, dill, oregano, pickled and fresno chili. Just perfecto
For the main course, I indulged in their Pollo Ternana, and it did not disappoint. Chicken breast stuffed with smoked provolone, basil, mushrooms, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes and pine nuts. Each bite was a burst of Italian comfort.
The drink selection was extensive, and the knowledgeable staff helped me choose a perfect pairing for my meal. Their attention to detail and commitment to enhancing the dining experience were truly impressive.
To cap off the evening, I enjoyed a decadent cacio e pepe cheesecake for dessert, which was a heavenly conclusion to an outstanding meal.
Sapori Trattoria in Chicago is a hidden gem that transports you to the heart of Italy with its authentic cuisine and warm ambiance. Whether it's a romantic dinner or a special celebration, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking exceptional Italian fare in Chicago. I can't wait to return and explore more of their tantalizing menu.
Sapori Trattoria is one of my favorite Italian spots in the city for many reasons; quality red sauce, exceptional service, handmade pasta, and a lovely dining room and patio.
We sat by the window which was lovely for the weather we've been having in Chicago lately. The Calabrian Clams are a must - clams served in a spicy red broth with crispy bacon and fresh herbs. The Vitello Meatballs are tender and delicious. For pastas, you can't go wrong with any here but we ordered the Carbonara and the Cappellacci Angostora and both were very flavorful.
For dessert, you MUST try the Vanilla Marscapone. Light and creamy, this is not your average dessert. It's also not too sweet. Served chilled with candied mangoes - it's one of the best desserts I've ever had.
Sapori is a dependable classic in the Lincoln Park/Park West neighborhood.
Fresh pasta, yummy calamari, and very tender meatballs! Loved the espresso martini. Our server was very attentive.
I loved my visit to Sapori Tratorria!
When we arrived we were greeted and seated immediately. Our waiter was also lovely. It was quite busy during our visit and he still made sure we had everything we need at all times.
The octopus was definitely a stand out for appetizers. Cooked to perfection! For dinner we had the carbonara and lasagna. Sooo good!!! You can tell fresh ingredients were used and it was made thoughtfully.
The Cacio de Pepe cheesecake was definitely new for me and I was a bit nervous to try it at first but it was fantastic! A must try!
I loved everything about our visit.
I found this place while looking up some spots in the Lincoln park area to take my Girlfriend for her birthday dinner and she had a taste for some good Italian food. I found this place and made my reservations and believe me when I say this is definitely a special place that we will be coming back to. Upon arriving our hostess was a delight, very friendly and welcoming, we chose to sit outside and as soon as we were seated we were brought out some very cold water, and some fresh lightly crispy bread, with very good olive oil and a small cup of I believe romano cheese to sprinkle on top of the bread to add a small amount of saltiness. The olive oil was fragrant and the bread made a beautiful starter to stimulate the appetite. We started with our appetizers and drinks, I ordered the Sangria de Luna which was robust with a full a fruity and lovely sweetness to it which seemed like a perfect match for the weather. My girlfriend was beautifully accommodated with a mocktail that she described as one of the nicest drinks she's ever had. We ordered the burrata platter which was sublime, the toasted focaccia bread that came with it was crisp and all the ingredients fresh and full of robust flavour. The mozzarella was soft and creamy which spread over the bread perfectly while the outer walls of the mozzarella still had the chewy texture giving you the best of both. The sundried tomato paste that they give as an accompaniment with this platter was my personal favorite, it was full of deep, rich flavor with a very good balance of sweetness and savoury. My girlfriend enjoyed the garlic paste, it was very strongly flavoured and I too enjoyed it, but I would not recommend it for a first date unless you are trying to keep your date safe from vampires. And finally there was pickled peppers and the prosciutto, the peppers had a good balance of vinegar and heat, and the prosciutto was full of umami, as someone who has never had it before it was very much an experience. For our main course I ordered another drink by the name of "A lil pick me up", I will be honest, it was good but even I know the drink might be strong for the average consumer, the mix of mint and basil in the drink made it oh so refreshing with a kiss of sweetness. My girlfriend ordered the pasta contadino, the pasta was full of creamy and smokey flavour with crisp vegetables that added a nice freshness to offset the heaviness of the bacon and the richness of the sauce. I ordered the gnocchi Al brivado, the gnocchi was soft and springy that just splits smoothly when bitten into with a satisfying bite, the sauce was very herbal, the pesto sauce is very strong and the only complaint I would have with the dish is the chicken, the chicken is cut very thinly in this dish which gets overshadowed by the strength of the sauce, and then even more so get lost with additional strips of sun dried tomatoes which add an additional boost of salt which would get overwhelming if not for the pesto sauce. Lastly, for dessert my lady ordered the Vanilla Mascarpone it was perfection, the sweetness from the honeycomb danced on your tongue with the smoothness and creaminess of the mascarpone, the addition of the candied walnuts was much needed, adding a good amount of texture change and sweetness combined with the nuttiness of them really balanced the whole dish. I had ordered the Cacio e pepe cheese cake solely out of curiosity of how the flavors would play together. I was surprised when I was told it gets flambeed, a nice show before getting to try it as it got lit ablaze with brandy. The cheese cake was very very good, very creamy, and sweet with the honey that surrounded it, the pepper added a surprisingly good amount of bite and sharpness to the dessert. However and this is very much a personal preference, it pairs perfectly with a bit of coffee, I had ordered the dessert to share the moment with my lady but I am not a sweets person but I did very much enjoy it. I would highly recommend this establishment.
TLDR: Amazing food and drinks, great atmosphere, Hmm pasta
Cozy little Italian place with large portions and fast service. Overall the handmade pastas and fresh ingredients make this a worthwhile local eatery for any event. The flow of the restaurant does reduce the overall comfort.
My meal was delicious. I was also impressed with my waiter. She was very attentive and even attempted to anticipate my next move. She was 100% correct in doing that. I also love the look of this restaurant. Both inside and the tables set outside offer plenty of seating. I was definitely in the place to be.
