Such a hidden gem! I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been here before. Such authentic southern Italian cuisine, and I thought the inside was so cozy. The wood fired pizza was AMAZING. The appetizers we tried were unique and menu options I haven’t seen elsewhere in the city. I also thoroughly enjoyed the handmade pasta, with seafood pasta being their specialty. 100% check this spot out, I was impressed! Located under the L, with plenty of street parking. They have a wide variety of wine and mocktails as well.
Fantastic Italian food with a rustic atmosphere. Perfect for small to medium sized groups. The pizza was fantastic, and the drinks are strong. Feels authentic but approachable. What questions my group had about the entrees were answered, and the kitchen was accommodating to our needs. It does get fairly loud if the place is busy, so be mindful of that if coming here for date night.
I am the biggest food snob and this Italian restaurant HITS!!!! Authentic, delicious, homemade taste in every bite WITHOUT the extreme grease you get at some restaurants.
An absolute gem of a restaurant. Food was delicious and ingredients were fresh and high quality, you can tell they put a lot of care into their dishes. Came here for my birthday dinner and our server, Jennifer, went above and beyond! Sang me happy birthday and made me feel very special, best service I’ve ever received at a restaurant to date. You must come for the tiramisu, it is complimentary if it’s your birthday and it’s absolutely delicious, not too sweet and perfectly light. It’s a guarantee that I will visit this establishment again!
It was my boyfriend and I first time dining at Macello and wow, we’re very impressed with the food. It’s definitely a hidden gem and I can’t believe it took us this long to dine here. The service was amazing and a shout out to our waiter for being so helpful and kind. We can’t wait to dine here again soon!
The only thing I am testing positive for is pasta, pizza and prosciutto at Macello! Macello is a family-friendly fine dining restaurant specializing in Pugliese cuisine. Coming here you will find all of the comforts of a home-cooked meal without any of the mess. From the two wood-burning ovens kept fired to the finest ingredients, at Macello you will find a taste of the Adriatic like no other. My favorites were the prosciutto and Macello pizza! The prosciutto just melted in your mouth and I really loved the toppings and crust of the pizza! The decor is really cool and unique inside as well with these giant globe looking lights. I would highly recommend this place to my family and friends!
Pizza and calamari was the best I've ever had. Outstanding service as well. Highly recommend!
We stumbled into this spot by accident really, but it was wonderful. The service to the food, and atmosphere was top notch. Our server was incredibly sweet and attentive. Food was really good. They had a live band which added a bit of fun. Will definitely be back with my Italian father in law who would love it!
I’ll add to the previous reviews as this place is an absolute gem only hidden by its slightly off the beaten path location. I’ve been all over the west loop and never had heard of it despite them being in business for 12 years. If you want a perfect mash up of authentic Italian and true to spirit west loop vibes this place is it. Has the deli counter front with tomato sauce all in the window. A beautiful bar to the right of a massive open fire pizza oven. Overhead is the old factor skylight, not to mention quite a few other remnants of the buildings past life in the meat packing district. We chose to sit on the back porch which was just right given the late Summer temps. The food was incredibly delicious. We started with their delicious bread and oil. We also went with a traditional wedding soup which brought my dining companion right back to her Youngstown roots 🤌🏼. From there we opted for a truffle pasta that wasn’t overbearing in the slightest (as we know many can be with truffle) as well as a classic cavatelli. I’m sad this is the first time I’ve been here. Get off the main drag of restaurant row and give Macello a try!!
This place was such a magical find! With a deli in front and a gorgeous restaurant in the back, it was such a fun night! The food was amazing and the staff was fantastic! We had a large group and they were able to keep up with us! They have THE best prosciutto I have ever had in my life. I'm drooling just thinking about it!
Hidden gem- best Italian we have had in the city. Tonight we had a fabulous server and trainee who were spot on with recommendations, food and drinks! Everything was hot and 100% homemade, portion size for the price was spot on- We can’t wait to come back to Chicago to eat here again with our friends and family!
Had an amazing experience at Macello’s! We loved the rustic and charming ambiance & everything is made fresh. Not to mention their staff are so kind and accomodating. Come here for authentic Pugliese cuisine and for their extensive food/wine menu.
We visited Macello for the first time and truly enjoyed our visit. The menu had a wide variety or dishes that looked very appealing. The daily specials were also particularly appealing. Good wine list with many interesting options. The service was attentive but not hovering. We will be definitely return!
A wonderful experience at Macello! Gustavo was an excellent host and waiter. He shared with us how to enjoy Ports. Food was excellent. We recommend the seafood special pasta, pizza americano, fried calamari, tiramisu, pasta tartufata. Drinks were also great.
This place has a really cool rustic interior and the service we had was very hospitable and friendly. The cuisine is interesting, and I was surprised as to how good the pizza was with the mortadella on top. I didn’t like the risotto because it was so hard, but the truffle sausage pasta was really good and creamy. I would come back her for the vibe and some hearty pasta.
Wow! This place is amazing. Love the server, the food and their espresso martini was amazing. The pizza looked amazing but we were stuffed. I’m surprised it wasn’t packed. The server was funny and checked in the perfect amount of times.
Service was really kind. Enjoyed the live music. The lamb shank special we ordered was very tender!
Hands down, the best gluten-free pasta in Chicago, and the rest of the menu is great too. They have a nice little summer patio and super cozy inside space in the winter. Wait staff are always personable and professional. Nice Italian wine list with some unusual offerings.
Relax dim atmosphere. Music just right with TV in some areas. NFL football was on at the time. Food was cooked delicious with prices being fair quantity is perfect , quality excellent.
Gave us perfect spot for family of 20
