Bar Takito is an amazing place for food lovers. Not only does the restaurant excel at producing uniquely delicious food ensembles but it also is a very lively place with live music, fun decor and amazing bar concoctions. Highly recommend for dates, drinking with friends, or even sharing outrageously good food with friends.
Bar Takito was an awesome place to celebrate my 50th Birthday with family and friends. I enjoyed everything. My favorites were the Cucumber Margaritas and the Lamb Tacos. The wait staff was very attentive and accommodative. The music and atmosphere was lovely. I highly recommend this place! 😀

Co-owned by childhood friend, Mario Ponce (his original 'Takito Kitchen' is in Wicker Park), this place is fabulous!
From the upbeat, fun, colorful decor to the attentive staff, and the creative, beautifully presented, delicious food (you'd better like it 'hot'!!) - we highly recommend 'Bar Takito'. I especially enjoyed the 'papas fritas' and the Brunkow Cheese tacos. Made our family night in Chicago extra special.
Tacos are all the rage in Chicago. And with a large Mexican population, you have to be good at tacos. While they're slightly gourmet at Bar Takito, they're still worth devouring. And the bar service is a plus. It packs out for the evening crowd, but during the day, especially on Saturdays, you can get a seat without the crowd and enjoy some good food and beverage.
Seven friends and I decided to try Bar Takito's new brunch menu which was as innovative as it was delicious. We could not get enough of the grilled pineapple guacamole. The mimosa basket with puréed guava, strawberries and orange juice was perfect for a hot Sunday afternoon. We all tried something different and loved every bite. I have always loved the fresh flavors of Bar Takito and am extremely excited about their latest brunch endeavor.
Being that this was not my first time here, initially, i was so sad to hear the menu changed. I crave the pork tacos!! When the waitress told me they were not available, I thought the whole experience was going to be a disappointment. I went with the new steak tacos. Soooo good. We also ordered our regular papas, octopus, and guac!! Service is always good and staff is always friendly!! Love this place.
Food and drinks are amazing! Not an alcohol drinker, but the bar tender made me these amazing no etoh drinks!!!! Delicious!!!! Food is always amazing and staff are great!
Love love love! The food! The octopus is to die for but ALL the food has been great every time I go! Great staff, great drinks! Worth every penny!
What an adorbs spot in a gentrifying area that still has a little oom-shaBoom (ie: still edgy).
The restaurant itself is super cute and kitschy. Great decor & atmosphere. We sat out on the patio which is a very urban experience complete with market lights (uh, yes please) and the constant sound of the train which really adds to the atmosphere. I was catching up with a childhood friend and we loved it that we had to stop, wait for the train, giggle, and then resume our conversation.
Our server was To. Die. For. This is my personal observation - she was delightful, witty, helpful, personable and fabulous. Yes, we had a girl crush.
Here’s what we had:
YUMMY cucumber margaritas - super tasty & refreshing
Corn & Cheese Arepa - ermagerd, this was so tasty & filling. check out the picture - it was just a mouth party. Mushrooms & pickled veggies piled on a crispy corn cake. It was a like a pinwheel flavor extravaganza.
I’m looking forward to coming back !

The restaurant atmosphere was very modern and a bit classy and the staff was very friendly! The food pairings surprised me a little bit but everything tasted wonderful! Their margaritas are lovely as well and you definitely get what you pay for here though it is on the pricier side.
Such a fun atmosphere and I love the GF menu. Highly recommend their octo taco and papas fritas!!
Great food and ambience! Friendly staff and delicious food. Shrimp cerviche was amazing!
Loved the spot ! Everything from the decor to people and food! Had a very lovely experience. There papas fritas are delicious and their chilaquiles will definitely be back!
5 hungry and thirsty girls were extremely impressed by the talented bar tender, the awesome server and the amazing food! Thanks for looking after the rowdy bunch!
The atmosphere and food was very good. Got the truffle sort of skillet and it was phenomenal. Also, really enjoyed the bottomless mimosas. The only thing I’d say is that our waiter did take a while to take care of us. However, it was a hot and busy day. Nice place!
Awesome place for food and margaritas, especially on Taco Tuesdays and happy hour. 7 dollar specials on good tasting margs. The presentation is cool on them to.
Very basic Mexican spot. The service was great, but the backless seating was uncomfortable and many of the dishes were lackluster in taste (although visually stunning). I'd recommend the guacamole, shrimp tacos, and a simple margarita for the best experience.
I love this place. The food is to die for, and chef Yani always has the most amazing and unique specials. The cocktails and agua frescas are great too.
This was a WONDERFUL stop. Our waitress, Shania (I think) was the sweetest waitress and so kind. They had a large party come in and she still did so well tending to our table too. She made our visit so fun! Next time I’m back in Chicago, we will have to come back.
Had a great experience at Bar Takito. Pretty cool decor and amazing service. We tried the regular and mushroom queso fundido as well as the Chips and Salsa appetizers, and you really can't go wrong here, everything was absolutely amazing. Our group got a bunch of tacos as well and we loved them all, my favorite was the steak taco with the crispy shoestring onions. Also, if you like a good margarita, theirs is absolutely killer. Will be coming back!
Dined in with a brunch reservation. Friend arrived early and rather than letting them wait for everyone to arrive, staff immediately sat them down and started the countdown on bottomless brunch. Would have happily waited outside for everyone if we had known they were going to do this. Food was tasty and portions were good.
I went with my girlfriend and it was a very good experience overall! We made a reservation and initially the host took us to a very uncomfortable table but we asked to be change and they nicely helped us. I gotta say food was very good but portions are VERY small, all you can drink mimosas were amazing!
I recommend you going here but suggest the restaurant to work on those details :)
Fabulous experience. I went for Restaurant week, but I would definitely go back. The queso fundido was not only fun, but delicious. The maitake mushrooms were well flavored and a nice bite. The cheese was complex and delicious with every bite. The shrimp ceviche had plenty of shrimp and flavor with the lime and cilantro perfectly balanced. The Chilean Sea Bass Al Pastor was phenomenal--they managed to elevate and enhance but not overwhelm the sea bass taste. It was flaky and cooked to perfection, with the pineapple adding a nice refreshing taste. The Pulpo a la Plancha was one of the first times I had actually tender and delicious octopus. The meal was enhanced by our waiter, Fernando (I think), explaining the process of how the food was prepared and what we were eating. Then dessert -- the pineapple upside down cake is worth going for all on its own. It's a moist cake covered in Mexican caramel with pineapple chunks and a passion fruit curd that is indescribable in its deliciousness. The margaritas were also quite good. They take Jose Cuervo traditional and make it better then add it to the margarita-- making a smooth, deceptively strong drink.
Staff was very welcoming and pleasant
Food was pretty good. (Carnitas Taco FtW!!)
I’m actually turning into a big fan of this place when it comes to a last minute brunch reservation. It’s not a cheap place but the food is pretty solid if you don’t try to do over do it! For those who love bottomless mimosas this a great spot! If you are allergic to orange juice they other juice options as well!
What an amazing place!
Very nice setting esp in summers.
We just walked in for dinner on saturday and luckily they had a table.
Had guac trio with cucumber margarita, chicken tacos, cauliflower tacos.
Cauliflower tacos is a must try.
Our server Alex was really nice, very informative and welcoming.
Definitely recommend.
I hosted a dinner at Bar Takito for 15 of my colleagues and myself and it was a great experience. We had decided on Monday that we should have a "Taco Tuesday" following a full day of meetings in our HQ. Bar Takito was able to reserve a table for my group and so helpful in setting up the menu in a way that really worked for us. We all arrived to a full spread of appetizers and a Margarita Tower (which ended up being tower 1 of 2 for the night!). The tacos we ordered were so great and our server was really attentive to us making sure drinks were topped off and chips were always refreshed. We'll definiately be returning next time we're all in town! (Special TY to Amanda who worked with me late into the night Monday night to make sure our team was able to enjoy such a fun meal!)
Nice drinks! The mango and Cucumber ones were amazing 😍
