My fiance and I were in town from Florida and wanted to do something nice for my mom who recently lost her husband so we took her out to dinner and she absolutely loved it!! From the amazing food (my favorite were the crab and spinach dips and also the Luigi’s Linguine) and we had the best server name Angela who was so nice and down to earth. Thank you for making that night special for my mom. Will definitely be back when we come visit again in January!!
Manning's has had great food, sevice and atmosphere each time I have been. I ordered a side salad and baked potato this time and took half of the salad home for later. My bf enjoys being surprised by having the wait staff's favorite (no peanuts.) The steak was perfectly cooked and instead of salad, they brought broccoli with a slightly spicy sauce. It was wonderful.
We came for an early dinner, definitely worth the 40-minute ride.
The food is excellent , and the service is top quality. I will definitely be back for another dinner with the family .
First time here in several years. Solid experience. We were able to grab a table with no wait on a Friday. Parties bigger than two faced a long wait, and the coveted rooftop must be reserved.
Manning’s is casual but retains a slightly refined air. People come to hang out, or come dressed up for dates. You’re welcome either way.
We got the crab dip, which was delicious real crab.
They’ve got a couple of good beers on tap as well as cocktails and a martini list.
Our entrees were the sea bass/scallop pasta special, and the pesto primavera. All the seafood was excellently prepared. The primavera had more flavor than the special, but I understand not wanting to mask the sea bass or scallops too much.
Solid martinis after dinner - one dirty and one espresso.
Service was friendly, just a tad slow at times. But it’s all fine on a lively Friday with a good atmosphere to soak up.
Thanks for a good meal!
We went here for our 43rd anniversary. We ate on the rooftop, and it was the perfect weather. The food!! We had the crab cake appetizer and ordered the ribeye for our dinners. I had the house salad with the best blue cheese dressing, and my husband had the Caesar salad. The meal also comes with a loaded baked potato. The food was perfection... steaks cooked perfectly to order! Our waitstaff was Drew and Alissa (sp?). The BEST! Friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and even though it was busy, we never felt forgotten. In fact, they were very attentive. Drew even brought us dessert (to go) as an anniversary gift. We highly recommend!!!!!
We had a birthday feast at Mannings downtown Clayton. We enjoyed the rooftop dining. The food was fresh and delicious. We had quite a few waiters attended to us. We were well taken care of! Thank you! 💖
It's a bright spark in downtown Clayton. The steak was cooked perfectly med rare. The whole meal was exceptionally well flavored and amazing service.
There is not a bad thing on the menu. My family and friends have been going here for years. While the wait can be long sometimes, the food is well worth the wait.
Never had one complaint, nor do I have problems spending our hard earned money here at all.
Highly recommended restaurant even if you aren't close to it.
The food for Mother's Day was amazing! I got the Lobster and Scallop Risotto special and it was worth the wait! The restaurant seemed a little understaffed for lunch, but the staff apologized for this upon entry. Great way to spend my Mother's Day lunch with family! We used the waiting time to talk and spend time together.
We stopped by Mannings for a beer and left with a new favorite place to eat, drink, and hang out with the friendliest of people! The scallops are prepared perfectly! Can't wait to go back try more foods! Matteo (bartender) and Mr. Manning are amazing at what they do!
First time visit to this local favorite. Sat at the bar because it was pretty busy when we arrived. Bartenders are very friendly and make great drinks. Locals are talkative, engaging and warm people. I ordered a chicken and avocado bacon sandwich with fries and my husband got a pasta dish. The patrons recommend the ribs and spinach. Southern fare comfort food is the hallmark of this restaurant. If you’re in Clayton, should definitely pop in for a bite!
I had been here before but I enjoyed it so much I brought my husband and we are going to make it out go to place. The food was was great. The price is good and Gilbert was friendly and informative. We have been here for 3 years and needed to find a good restaurant nearby, we don’t want to go Raleigh for everything. Kudos to the owner.

I couldn't have asked for better food or better service! The place was Top Notch in every way. We got a table upstairs where it was quieter. There was a huge deck with umbrellas just outside that looked very inviting, but it was just too hot that day. Our waitress was great. We'll definitely be going back! It's our new favorite place to go to!
I highly recommend it.
This was our first time at Mannings, server was nice & atmosphere was inviting & fun. Start of by saying the apps were awesome, we were off to a great start, loaded cheese fries & Philly cheesesteak egg rolls, loved ‘em. I would probably come back for the apps again. I got the BLT, added salmon, which I instantly regretted once it came out. Bread was flavorless, don’t know if it was even toasted & completely soggy. The last part I can blame the salmon for. The salmon was horrible on its own too, didn’t have more than a bite or two which is sad because I really love salmon but this was beyond fishy. Side of fried green tomatoes were really tasty, some of the best I’ve had outside of the deep south. Breading was perfect, lightly seasoned, not too thick, crispy, didn’t slide off, tomato was bright, tender & acidic. Unfortunately my appetite was a bit lost after the sandwich which went mostly uneaten but server didn’t even question. My husband got the bacon bbq burger with side of fried green tomatoes which he really enjoyed as well. Might give another shot eventually because the appetizers were good. 7/10⭐️
This place was great. Not from NC, just visiting my dad. What I loved about this place is that you are not packed into the restaurant. Many places have tables so close to each other, but Mannings was very spacious. It’s a very nice restaurant. Service was great. The waiter checked on us a perfect amount of times. And finally, the food was awesome. I got the pimento pretzel bun burger and added some mushrooms. It was top notch. The fries were also fantastic, had the perfect crispness to them. Next time I’m in NC I will definitely visit again.
Love this place! Food is always good and consistent no matter what I get. Staff is great as well. You might have a wait, but worth it.
was impressed with their welcoming and wide-open dining room that delivers an upscale country vibe. I would say they have brought a fine dining experience to Clayton.
The staff welcomed us the minute we walked in the door, they are very personable and full of personality, something I would hope to get in a small town like Clayton. There is definitely no stale service here.
They offer an impressive menu and if you don't try a few starters while your there, you're missing out. The cheese fries are wonderful and filling, but even more impressive were the crispy ribeye eggrolls. The combination of a quality shaved ribeye with their house blend of melted cheese was phenomenal and just as good the next day for leftovers!
I enjoyed the "Jennifer's Filet" entree, they served a good cut of beef, unfortunately it was cooked closer to medium rare than I hoped. Unfortunately, I was unable to see the rooftop patio, but from what I understand it is quite large and where we will be dining on our next visit, in the spring of course.
Cheers!
